i'll admit, i'm really really upset

not devastated, worse, truly sad about this

The cleverest thing to walk away though. Sad that it is, you've enjoyed it, you like cars and there's loads out there you haven't tried yet. Best of luck

Where's the harm? Despite popular belief, every car ever has been riddled with inbuilt faults, just some less than others (see how even w123 and 124 "granite mercs" rot like the preverbial). You've found a car you like and now know a shit more about them than you did. To paraphrase @djoptix above, use the knowledge and just buy a good one next 😁

basically

i really like them, they are literally the perfect car for my needs

so why not, i like them, they're reliable, quirky and comfortable...perfect

Sorry to hear about this mate! We have all seen how much effort you put into making this nice and I too know the pain of realising a car is too far gone (financially) to reasonably save. Good luck with the next one.

I remember at shitefest you explaining your magic formula for buying cars:

* View ad

* Send full £ amount without seeing car

* ????

* Profit

Best of luck with the new car man. You made the right call to send that C5 off to the scrapyard in the sky

Is there another formula that I’m unaware of?

For buying cars, no. For fleet management, yes.

The ideal number of cars on fleet is n+1

Perhaps it's worth considering for the next purchase? Oh, hang on...

Sad times 😿

Just avoid automatic Citroen's. Oh wait...

Laziness and the fact I’m a huge fan of the AL4 gearbox

ive spent thousands of hours on the internet researching them with the issues this one had, I’m an expert now

Well, to be fair, I can’t be much of an expert

as I’m going straight out and buying another unknown one haha

Look at car,  pleading poverty after finding 90% of the faults.

Wait for price to drop £800 as seller desperate not to pay next month's insurance.

Plough as little of discount back into car as possible to rectify faults over several months

Drive on

Randomly think of a model of car I want

join the owners club on facebook

get drunk, put a post up saying you’re interested in one

or see one advertised that looks nice

“accidentally” message the seller

turns out they’re hundreds of miles away

accidentally transfer full asking price to their bank account

go and pick car up

get it home and realise it’s way worse than you thought

pour thousands into it

Did you plead poverty once you found most of the faults? If not that’s where you went wrong clearly.

No I'd already paid for it.

Didn't test drive ours either, it was £11k. Don't think I've ever test driven a car. 😂

When I picked up SuziQ, only ever looked at it on his drive, in York... Didn't open bonnet!

Returned with full asking price, 1k in cash, in Macdonald's bag 😱

Ate my sandwich lunch, parked on his drive...

Fired her up, drove to local petrol station, set off down to Lincoln to buy 5x Mizzie alloys, drove home.

Never missed a beat @75

l is madda than box-O-frogs 🚙💨
