Jane Austen to appear on tenners.  Why?  Her work is just regency Hello! magazine and only of worth for historical footnotes on the upper eschelons of society at that time.  There's far, far more suitable women to put on money on the value of their work and she certainly shouldn't be replacing Darwin whose work has far more importance.

Every time I'm faced with a tenner I'm just going to be angry now.  Why don't they just go and put Trotter vans on fivers and Roy Chubby fucking Brown on twenties while they're at it to complete the whole cultural revolution on our paper money?  Wankers.

True! Actually I think David Jason in character as Del Boy would be more appropriate.

The family of a joyrider who was killed in a police chase have been awarded £20,000 in compensation.

Father-of-one Lee Lewis, 22, suffered multiple injuries when his stolen car hit a wall during a 12-mile chase by four police cars in Port Talbot, south Wales.

The five 'untrained' officers who gave chase had ignored orders from the police control room to stop the pursuit.

They were given written warnings after an investigation into the fatal crash.

Lewis' family have now been given £20,000 compensation - awarded to his seven-year-old son Iestyn.

They were awarded an out-of-court settlement after a putting in a civil claim for negligence against South Wales Police.

Lewis, who had just become a father at the time of the crash, died after taking a Ford Fiesta from a street in Swansea in May 2008.

He crashed into the stone wall after leading the two police cars and two vans at speeds of up to 87mph.

Lewis' grandfather Peter Howells today slammed the way the case had been dealt by the police force.

He said: 'He was a young man, he had a young baby, and it's ruined our lives.

'These officers didn't even get a speeding fine, they've had nothing, just a slap on the wrist - this isn't justice.'

WTF.

I've just had the misfortune to listen to a Proclaimers CD I found in a car I bought ages ago.

If you've not listened to it before, then just imagine a Scottish version of Status Quo singing lullabys via a drain pipe which they wrote after smoking haggis through a crack pipe on Balamorie High Street. Only a bit worse.

Don't forget the new board has an emoticon for not enjoying the Proclaimers:

ROFL at the Twin Town picture. I need to watch that again, brilliant film.

They do really piss me off at times but I can't be happy if joyriders die.

Happy no, pissed off that the father sees this as the Police officers fault, yes!

Modern blame culture I'm afraid, it's always someone else's fault.

I loved the way you could always predict whether the away team had a higher score by the pitch of his voice:

"Yeovil ... One." "West Bromwich (slowly raises pitch) Albion ... Three".

"East Fife... (downward inflection) 4,  Forfar... (upward lilt) 5."

For years quite a few English people thought the name of Glasgow's third football team was 'Partick Thistle Nil'.

Nowadays it's Rangers...

Well you've seen the flats I live in...

All the same I don't know why the neighbours have to step outside their flat into the car park to shout and scream at each other.

I can only conclude they are actively seeking to live up to the stereotype.

There was a roundabout like that near where I used to live. Had a number of near misses when some turd comes wizzing up the right hand lane and tries to cut in at the last minute. I always used to stand my ground.

Impatient drivers   i will go when the lights turn green, not on fuggin amber when people are still crossing.

and instead of blaring your horn and making hand signals, get out your car and come to my window and i will wrap a wheelbrace around that fuckin thick skull of your's.

and yes i know me doing 20mph in a 20mph zone all the way down the road really got to you but if i could have i would have turned around and drove all the way home in reverse in front of you  just to prove that being an impatient arrogant road bullying tosspot will get you nowhere!

Lymm Roundabout. Again.

For the last time, you stupid mongs - if you want to come off the roundabout and head on to the A56 YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE LEFT HAND LANE. GO ROUND THE FUCKING ROUNDABOUT AGAIN IF YOU'RE IN LANE 2 BECAUSE I AM NOT LIFTING OFF TO LET YOU IN IF YOU TRY TO CUT ME UP AT THE LAST SECOND. THERE WILL BE AN ACCIDENT AND IT WILL BE YOUR FAULT.

No, putting your indicator on does not make it alright. I'm looking at you, flid in the black Lexus hybrid.

That roundabout has always been a great location for a personal injury claim.

Bastard Elephant.co.uk automatically renewed my insurance on the Xantia so I had TWO insurances in place at the same time, except I didn't because Octagon insurance ballsed up my new policy and didn't take any money from my account meaning they hadn't insured me. After a long phone call to Octagon they finally got the insurance in place and a surprisingly short call to Elephant had them cancel my spurious policy. Amazingly, they just did it there and then with no financial penalty.

Apparently new insurance legislation means they can auto renew your insurance with no contact with the policy holder, no emails, no letters, nothing. Thieving bastards.

Just learned a friend of mine has had his car run into AGAIN.  First time was at a roundabout when the guy behind him thought he'd set off and he hadn't, this time he had to emergency stop (I know not why, probably avoiding nuns carrying baskets full of kittens or something) and the guy behind hit him hard enough to mangle his bumper and explode his rear screen-tailgate.  He's expecting his car to be written off, but until he finds out he's driving around with a bag in place of the rear window-tailgate.  If it were an old car with tiny lights you couldn't see I could understand it, but it's a new-ish Peugeot Tinybox with very visible high up lights.

In other grumpy news, banks and insurance.  Got a message from my insurer to say they weren't able to take payment for July, they'd try again in a couple of days but could I get in touch please?  I do, and they tell me no attempt at payment has been made, must be with the credit company who are going to try again in a couple of days.  Get in touch with the bank who tell me no attempt to withdraw money from my account has been made... that was yesterday.  Today I get a letter telling me that an attempt to withdraw funds from my bank was made and it put me over my limit so they're charging me £15 for the privilege.  What the actual fuck?  Happily, since the Princess is on taxi duty again what with Dad's Ohmygod needing the air con fixing again, I can drop into the bank and ask what's going on.  I bet someone has put a wrong number in somewhere because there's no way on this stupid spinning rock that I didn't have the funds in my bank, I made sure of it.

My final grump - I swear, the hot evening temperatures are making me stupidly irritable - is my brother having a job he enjoys and that pays well.  Okay, he's been struggling to find an employer that doesn't dick him around, or string him along with wages, or mess up his tax, but he's making five or six times what I do in a week and I'm just sort of muddling along directionless and have no idea what I want to do with my life beyond 'get better' and 'move house' and 'drive old cars'.  Been feeling like a right failure lately... but let's not get into that, I'm trying to stay positive.

Leaving Cambodia on Tuesday after a year here. Whilst I dont love the country, I cant really bear the thought of the UK at the moment. So many negative people, whinging about stuff that isnt important.  Also the thought of getting a proper job is scary! No more Cambodian 2 hour lunch breaks, no year round sun, no more smiley people or little kids that always want to chat to you.

The last year has been spent working with 16 different organisations on things from community development programmes, well and latrines planning, corporate governance and accounting systems. Which inevitably mean that none of this is relevant to any jobs in the UK!

Just keep reminding yourself that YOU have a beige Austin Princess and the rest of us don't. If that doesn't work I'm not sure what else to recommend.

Hey Mr Coal Eye, is the 205 legit at the moment? If so and you can drive it here you can use our engine hoist if you want.

Unfortunately it's immobile, as the head and block are seperated enough to remove the head gasket from between the two, but not free of everything else it needed to be.  Many thanks for the kind offer.  Update in the news24 thread.

I am having one of those days!  Because of the recent fee-piling shenanigans caused by a shortfall of 14p that wasn't in my bank account and having now got that sorted I thought that'd be it.  Nope, turns out the fuel gauge on the Princess isn't entirely reliable and when the odometer clicked over to 100 miles my 3/4 tank of fuel decided it was 2/3rds so my excellent mpg is not what I though.  Then, to add insult to injury, the damaged driver's door I can't get repaired because the money for it has been eaten by fees decided it should rip straight through my favourite trousers when I opened the door.  Because of this door-trouser altercation, I now own a pair of shorts that look like they're part of a very posh school uniform.

I'm living in 2001 my broadbands running at -1kps because of a fault on our line and my phone only seems to want to operate in 2g.

After carefully setting my tripmeter nearly 700 miles in advance, so that I'd get "1234567890" displayed in full across the mile and odo, and checking the state of progress on every single journey I've made for the past 2 weeks, I went out for a 10-mile round trip and forgot to look at it. Of course, that was the very same journey that pushed it over.

Is it weird that upon realising, I spent at least 5 seconds considering the possibility of buying another heap with around 120k on the clock, just to relieve my frustration?
