These are the risks we take, when we venture onto the roads in 40-odd year old vehicles weighing less than a tonne, against modern "small family hatchbacks" weighing over 1.5 tonnes... It's an arms race, akin to Darwinian evolution at its finest, with NCAP stars as the selection force.

That twat who does the Gillete razor adverts, I would not tire of shaving every layer of skin of his shitty-shiney little face, the way he 'whoops' as he walks into the shitters with the blokes mid-shave makes me want to repeatedly throw stones at the cunt as much as the cunts whom are shaving. Oddly enough, there is a 51 plate rover 25 broken down on the side of the road near me.. it has two flat tyres and a puddle (which could very well be coolant) under it. It is silver, I'm sure whoever owns it would consider £550 a pretty fair price!

Who the fup tightens the sump plug so tight that you have to weld a hub nut over the top so you can get a 32mm socket and two blokes on a 24 inch breaker bar to shift it? Obviously, the same person who had put 2 litres too much oil in the engine, and then completely rounded the plug off trying to remove it and then gave up on the car and sold it. nob.

By this time I had decided it needed to come out whether I took the sump with it or not, especially considering the amount of sump to ground contact that has occurred - it's smashed to bollocks. It's a cast ally sump on a 16v golf engine - I bought a new plug, but ended up just putting the frankenplug back in. At least I can be sure I'll be able to get it back out.

It's a cast ally sump on a 16v golf engine - I bought a new plug, but ended up just putting the frankenplug back in. At least I can be sure I'll be able to get it back out.

 

I was told the other day that VW now have a kit of some kind for this problem.

 

My son's sump plug (Golf GTi Turbo) was properly cabbaged and we ended up tapping it out and fitting a larger one.

It was Peter. He is out of intensive care but has a broken arm,leg, ribs, lost

his spleen and has his liver rebuilt. so it will be some time to recover.

On different news making me grumpy, My Escort is pissing water in like a sieve, I noticed the other morning the passenger footwell was full of water and it's hardly stopped raining since.

 

I need to do the hose pipe test once it stops raining i think.

 

It was the battery tray, it's pissing in :( It goes in for welding on Wednesday so I'll get it plated up.

Shouldn't someone draw the attention of the forces of law and order to these idiots? Ebay has a facility to "share" listings; just cultivate a friendly and interested officer, or even someone at an insurance company, and gaily email them some info. Wouldn't take long before there's a barrage of publicity in the mainstream press, and look, people stop doing it. Sadly it would probably also spell the end for properly-modified cars, as the thick minority always manages to spoil things for the real people...

Did you ... carefully ... unscrew the sump plug, making sure not to drop it into the oil catch tray underneath, watching each thread unscrew, making sure you've got hold of the plug nice and tight, waiting for the first drip of oil as you don't want to drop it into the tray underneath, and then get onto the last thread of the plug, have the first drip of oil and then drop the plug and copper washer into the tray as it fills with black oil?

I do that -every- time. :evil:

I'm lucky enough to have never done that. I've took the plug out and then forgotten to put the bugger back in before refilling the engine. I was once actually looking directly at the sump plug, while filling the engine up with oil and thinking to myself "I need to slip the copper washer round on that before I put it back in"

 

This was 5 years ago, and I have just realised that is the last time the oil in my mums Ka was changed.

PAS pumps. :evil:

 

For some reason mine shattered on its mounting today causing much swearing and praying. Fortunately I found one in the local scrappy but trying to undo the pully wheel bolts without the belt attatched was a total pita.

 

I suppose I should be grateful that the engine didn't cook after being driven for 8 miles with no fan and waterpump.
