The grumpy thread

I probably see one QX a fortnight, they're a bit of an oddball, but they exist if you look for them.

The sales slogan for the QX was "It exists" IIRC.... Bet many QX owners have had to say exactly what when visiting Halfords for parts.

Posted

A QX was the ZXOC's weapon of choice when we went hunting for a curry at z009 show, billing aquadrome. Fast with the 3.0 v6 but subtle with it too.

I'd rock a QX any day of the week.

Actually so would I. They're not bad, just bland and unloved, so expect to see them among our membership in large numbers very soon. When I was working in care, a 99 T-plate QX was donated for use by the home so I got to drive it rather a lot. Some of the staff had never set foot in an automatic before, I actually had to give lessons (as they knew I came to work in a selection of American tackle :D ). 2.0V6, FWD unfortunately, leather interior, it was just a bit beaten-up on the outside, which didn't really matter. Oh and it was brown  . It's the Chrysler 180 of the future, lads, get used to it!

Posted

apparantly the 2.0 v6 is absolutly hopeless, so perfect shite fodder I think.

Posted

I reckon I've missed them in the past because I've just thought they were Primeras.

I'd have a crack at that if I was still around, I used to live in Southport so it's only down the road. Towbar too, what more can you ask... Actually yes, there is more: I liked the leather interior in the work car.

In other news, with Uni work, I'm discovering that old habits die extremely hard.

I am such a twat.

So after stressing about the job extension I decided to say yes. Went back in yesterday and didn't hear back from the boss, so just thought he was busy and went to speak to him today. Turns out he was waiting for me to come and speak to him and presumed as I hadn't I wasn't interested so gave it to someone else. So I'm now unemployed. With a letter from the bank this morning asking me to pay my overdraft off as soon as possible.

Shit.

I do hope this is still a 'have a moan' thread.

Traffic lights on roundabouts... Really? Smart move.

For anyone coming this way for (probably) the next 17 1/2 years - lights are being installed on the roundabout on the A303 east of Stonehenge, y'know, the very first roundabout after leaving London - M3, A303, join queue of people who you assume are looking at stones and discover a roundabout caused the first blockage - then it goes to one lane as well, then the stones. They will inevitably have the timing changed 4 times every day like the roundabout traffic lights in Salisbury do because the council traffic planners like to 'experiment with traffic flow'.

And on about the various 'planning' depts - refuse an application because of 'insufficient infrastructure for the volume of traffic created' (one 5 bed house in a village) while allowing a new development of eleventy million houses with one parking space each. The developers also complained that 1/2 acre of open space for a playing area is 'excessive for 700 houses'.

Ummm, hang on...

In Scotland I waited 1 month for my hernia operation..done last year..New Zealand wouldnt touch me..until i was dying of a blocked gut..in intensive care..and then costing them $50000..the NHS is brilliant so shut up Norm..dont knock something youve never had..i was in the States and met homeless people crippled by illness cos of no standard public heathcare..

Posted

Why do people feel obliged to give a scathing opinion of you then cry like a fucking baby when you give it them back? Don't start what you can't finish. Twat.

*Edit: not interwebz related.

Ok..point taken..perhaps if we took the German system which has a free slush fund..plus compulsory health insurance from your employer it might work better..they are talking about user pays..visits to yer GP etc..thats how it works here..except the system is now facked here..massive queues..minor stuff like cataracts..hernias not being done..a basically corrupt-hierarchal medical boards that only allow a certain amount of international Drs into the country..i had to go to the UK..or end up facked here

Posted

Norm, that's nonsense. Healthcare cannot be hoarded, or stored and sold on to a third party, in the way that commodities like fuel and food can.

Posted

Norm's right, I've been screwing the NHS for years. Often I break both my legs with a sledgehammer so I can go inside a hospital. When they make it so you have to pay, I'm going to stop doing it.

Posted

Is it possible to be grumpy about the grumpy thread?

Posted

To be honest Norm, I get to see PCT figures on a daily and pretty in-depth basis. There is a lot of waste, particularly with regards to some parts of the care industry. However, sending it off to the private sector is unlikely to stop the waste or improve service, merely add a layer of health insurance over the whole lot. I'm at a loss as to why if parts of it are being abused, why those parts aren't just looked at and fixed - health tourism, etc. Shuffling the problems onto the private sector merely means the government has someone else to blame when the whole lot turns out to be a bit balls. See the whole British Rail debacle (and presumably the Royal Mail soon).

Although I do wonder why you're that bothered, it'd be like me going on about the state of the North Korean hat industry.

Posted

The North Korean hat industry is a fucking disgrace though.

I usually enjoy reading forum threads where it kicks off, but on Autoshite, not so much. Although it doesn't ever seem to get too carried away here, maybe an awareness that it's only the internetz.

I might not mention traffic lights and/or planning again

1. On an unrelated note, my nearly new netbook has swallowed \ corrupted my coursework notes and coursework essay. Not enough evidence for a PMC (personal mitigating circumstance) because I had the essay title for ages. So I can hand it in next week and take a 5% automatic deduction on my mark.

Least it won't be too hard to write the second time around.

2. Three of the nuts holding the undertray on the 480 have pinged off so the bloody thing's dragging on the deck. The crack in the windscreen I discovered is getting larger and bloody FJ haven't got back to me about whether or not Autoglass are authorised to do it or not. And they don't do weekends. I bet the nuts are an OEM Volvo order only, and they'll be about £600. And the twat on the parts phone at Rybrook will want the VIN and the reg and my weight on the moon before he'll look at the microfiche, the penis.

3. Can't go with Pete-M to collect his 604 because I can't have the time off work. I think bribery might be in order tomorrow.....

Cable ties are also GR2 for holding on hub carriers - PHAKT!

My grump is eGay - thought I'd scored a full leather (not half leather like the ZR) interior in black for the Rover 25 for £200. Turns out it was incorrectly listed for a 2 door. It was in fact for the 4 door, so no tipping seats, and obv. door cards won't fit. BOO! Still, lecky morrors and a new knob (!) on the way.

You can get full leather in the ZR,I think it was part of the Monogram options range. There's also some alcantara seats around but they don't tend to be cheap

Doesn't the full leather interior fitted to 25s/ZRs look really naff, like something out of a CityRover? I'd go with the half leather effort.

Posted

BRM interiors dont look quite as bad in real life.

If I had a choice on half or full leather it would depend on what the other half was made of. Half leather with alcantara probably being my favourite. Half leather wih some horried coloured cloth not high up on desirability.

I know it's an old-hat grump, but Ebay wankers.

Just sold a pushchair. £200 new, in good order, sold for £29. Fair enough, that's what it brought, no reserve and all that. During the auction, someone asked if I could price a courier. Came out at £15, so I messaged her, and added it to the listing.

Anyway, some other spunkbubble has won it, paid by paypal, then messaged me, "I'll sort my own courier, hope you don't mind but I think I can get it a lot cheaper. When is it convenient to collect?"

I've messaged him back that it's Wednesday morning only, and that's not out of awkwardness, but just because I'm either working or sleeping off night shifts for the rest of the week. Does this cock think I'm going to stay in/awake all day waiting for someone to collect a pram I've drawn less than thirty quid for? How much less than £15 does he think he''s going to get it?

I forsee this could get a bit messy. Good old ebay, eh? And there's still the 635 to go yet.
