Hi Jon, I'm already insured on the Austin with FJ through the Owners club scheme, but as far as I know the Reliant club doesn't have a similar scheme.

FJ were quite happy to accept 2cvgb as my "owners club membership" when I insured the Allegro. :?:?:

Try Lancaster as well, not had any problems with them.

Likewise when I insured the 2CV! I was (still am!) a member of the Austin A30/35 Owners Club.

I bust the placca top hose pipe stub off the radiator of my Rover.

It was a clean break and I thought it would repair OK.

Mixed up some araldite, glued it, clamped it with a G-clamp, left it overnight in the warm, came back next day and snapped it straight off using all the power of a 2-day old foetus. CHEERS ARALDITE

Cleaned it up again, glued it with some of that glue that plumbers use for glueing PVC waste pipes etc. This time the approximate power of a Jack Russell puppy was enough to send it wanging off. CHEERS.

Cleaned it up again, this time I used loctite 'PLASTIX super glue specially designed to glue all plastic materials like a mutha'. clamped it, left it overnight etc, in this case the approximate heaving power of an 88-yr old lady was enough to generate the dull click of plastic coming away from plastic. CHEERS GLUE INDUSTRY IN GENERAL, I'M BOWLED OVER BY YOUR OUTSTANDING PRODUCTS.

FUCK IT I can smell the £60 'fine' I am going to have to pay for my own stupidity.

Gorilla Glue.

Fucking magic stuff, find it down the builders merchants.

Posted

I have bodged plastic things together before by "plastic welding" ie dabbing the join with a soldering iron to fuse the 2 parts together.

Don't put too much pressure on else you melt a hole.

If the rad is scrap anyway what is there to loose (except the price of a ruined solering iron!)

Could you not run a short length of brake pipe inside the tube, and then glue it.... gives it a wee bit of strength. I did this a few time in the past.

Had a quick look too see how my rear N/S arch/quarter/sill were getting on in terms of rusting. There's the smallest bubble on the edge of the arch and a couple of small bubbles on the sill both visible from the outside. Unfortunately a lot of Integras have a fault where the rear quarter has not been sealed properly with the floorpan/sill etc area and they rot from the inside out. A quick look though the rear speaker grille shows that mine is doing this to a fair extent, d'oh. Thankfully it's only on the NS and the OS is just about perfect. It's beyond my skill level unfortunately but I want it sorted. Will probably wait until the spring and get it done with a lot of other work I want doing. Going to cost lots.

Not a grump but i didn't know where else to post it, Today i saw on a back of a transporter a BMW 5-Series E39 shape all stripped and prepped for banger racing, It still had it's 523i badge on the back.

I haven't been banger racing for a few years but I can't believe how new the cars are, I never thought that you was allowed to race a car with fuel injection neither but i guess it must have been modified some how?.

Posted

Some tracks let you race with injection, but a lot of newer cars can be converted to carbs. The BMW could also have had an engine from something else.

On my way to the Autoshite meet at Stondon I saw at least 7 or 8 transporters and trailers carrying banger cars, most looked rubbish (Mundano and KA were a couple I remember) so I wasn't that bothered, but one of them flashed his headlights at my A35

We get a lot of them around here due to Foxhall stadium only being around the corner, a few weeks ago i pulled up next to one whilst in the Kadett at the traffic lights on the Copdock roundabout where it's two lanes, He's mate started to have a good look and round then the driver started to peer over, I just looked at his a hi-ab and a shiver went down my spine and i sped off!

Building a B and Q greenhouse , going OK except for the bolts they supply , threads are so bad they seem to be cut by hand , then they snap off , Getting pissed off now and theres still loads to do

First rule of any DIY project, throw all the fixings they give you straight in the bin. Useless.

If I owned your lovely Kadett and with all the banger racers around your area I would be very careful with security, maybe consider fitting a tracker or immobiliser or something? I'm sure you would be heartbroken if someone nicked it, and you'd never find another as good as that.

got my Sega Saturn out of the loft as I'd been looking forward to playing it for ages only to find it keeps crashing as the disk drive is likely buggered

Oh and I need to figure out how to get a job in Plymouth when I don't live there

I was once on the Top 10 leaderboard in C&VG Magazine for the Desert Stage. Played a big part in getting me interested in cars as well, so I still need to own an Integrale, GT4 and Stratos

I also left a pizza in the oven today for 2 hours.

Haven't done much cooking for a while, went all Delia and made bœuf bourguignon yesterday. While preparing the shallots & bacon, put the oven on to warm up.

Five minutes later put the frying pan on to sear the beef and the resulting explosion was quite spectacular. I'd forgotten that the top oven doesn't ignite automatically and when I lit the top burner the oven igniter lit the accumulated gas in there, blew the door open and a huge gout of flame shot out and warmed me up very nicely. Still have eyebrowses as I had my glasses on at the time.

That'll learn me :)

House of the Dead 2, 2player on your own with a gun in each hand. Rwar.

Or many college hours fritted away playing Daytona in the nearby Metro cinema. Proper cabinet jobby with the H-pattern gearshifter.

The geezer who I rent my garage off has just bought himself a pukka Sega Rally machine off ebay for a coupld of hundred quid, it looks the bollox, I cant wait to have a shot on it when he's sorted it (sounds not working ATM).

The proper 2-seater one? Ace!

The nightclub I use to go to had one of them, I always chise the Lancia, obviously.

Talking of grumpy bastards, I met a cracker on friday. I was pulling out of a narrow alleyway onto a main road in Stoke. Some geezer was waqlking along the pavement, and my being there meant he had to walk round the back of my car, and additional 3m or so on his trajectory. He clearly wasnt happy about this, I could see him mouthing some profanity as he walked round the car. I would the window down and asked him what was the matter. He started banging on about pedestrian rights of way and what have you, I asked him WTF he wanted me to do. He replied with 'fuck shit wanker' or some such, I gave him the old 'FUCK OFF! I HOPE YOU DIE SOON' (copywrite H. Enfield, 1990) and razzed off up the road. I had the barbour jacket/tie/flat cap combo on as well so ideal for shouting abuse at miserable Stokeys.

Doesn't a certain Mr J Clarkson own a Sega Rally machine?

IIRC the arcade machine Ridge Racer could be bought with a real Mazda MX5 connected to it working the steering and gears. I wonder what happened to the car when the game went out of fashion?

Yes, it could - and I remember playing on one somewhere in the early 90's I guess!

The amusement arcade on Central pier in Blackpool had an MX5 equipped Ridge Racer, was two quid a go 15 years ago!

Think the remains of the MX5 ended up on ebay a year or so back, not sure if there was much interest;

"Hello MX5 city? I'm after a few bits for a mk1 Mx5; Have you got a pen and rather a lot of paper? By the way, what are the biggest wipers you stock? This ones got a non factory screen and its 18 foot wide.........................................

Hello? are you still there?????????????????????

I suspect the one in the Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield is still there. Bet it's £2 a go or something stupid too.
