I'm currently rolling my own ciggies. I was on 20 a day, which left me feeling like I had two dinghy's in my chest every morning, and it's too expensive. I spent 5 quid on Thursday, and still have the same bag of Golden Virginia, and I'm not smoking anywhere near as much as I was, about four a day (with a filter tip) basically because I can't be bothered rolling them, and it feels like sucking a pig through a straw, and because they're fairly horrible. But OMG, five quid over four days, and there's still loads left, I've saved 30 quid already.

You will get used to em , ive not bought tailor made fags for years , your rolling em too tight if you cant draw on them , they should blow your guts out meaning you smoke even less , 12.5 grams a week for me

Problem solved?

It'd certainly keep them together better but it won't taste too nice when inhaled.

Microshite Office packages..........

Sis' gets a new laptop. I come a across a CD with the 2007 Office 'trial version' and decide to install and see whats what. Decided I didnt like this new version, so I thought it would be a mater of uninstall the new version, install old version.............

No, this is Microsoft. Those shit faces at Microtwats omittedto include 1 vital file needed to complete installation, nameley a "PRO11.Msi" file, because they assume that everyone who has a Microshit run computer will have all the installation discs ready to hand.

No you dickheads. The computer I'm using was a freebie from a friend, it was of little value at the time, so natually I didnt get any Installation/package CDs. What I got was 1 computer tower, 1 small moniter, 1 keyboard and 1 mouse, and thats is it.

So now, thanks to the cock-jockeys at MicroFUCK I'm stuck with a shitty trial version of Office 2007 that doesnt work, and I cannot reinstall the old version. TURMOIL :x

FUCK OFF MICROSOFT AND DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just system restore the bastard.

I tried that  and guess what, it doesnt work! There are no available 'system checkpoints' and to add to that, for some reason I cannot click back to any previous months. So, unsurprisingly, I cant do a System Restore. The system restore is supposed to be functioning.

The damn thing needs a good kicking, or a complete reinstallation as the Windows system in this is pretty ropey.

I'd love to use another system like Apple or Ubuntu, but because of the rest of the family are using Windows, using my computer alot and thier unwillingness to use/try another system means that I'm stuck with this bastard.

Microsoft Windows is shit. End of.

Macs are crap. (IMHO)

I find Sun's Open Office is very useful. Has most of the functionality of Office, can save into Office file formats, and best of all, it's absolutely free!! Wouldn't be without it and certainly won't pay for Office again.

Alternatively, whack Linux on there and tell your family to get used to it, it's not rocket science :D I wouldn't use Ubuntu straight off though, go with a slightly more streamlined distro to start with (or an older release version, although that can cause complications with updates etc), especially if it's an older pc.

The Ikea crap in the road reminded me of a moan I missed when AS was down.

Lowered the car a lot (yes, I know) - First journey out after doing this, at 50mph on the dual carraigeway past wickes I see what I think are a few plastic bags in the road. But oh no they don't seem to be blowing around like you'd expect...

Turns out they are bags of topsoil some nobber had deposited off his car less than 100 meters after setting off.

I try and straddle one (no time to stop and no way between them) but clout it hard and shave the top off it. Made a nasty noise, but I the car still drives fine and I've hit worse a lot harder in my time (breezeblocks on the a63 for example), so I forget all about it til later that day, when I'm laid underneath the car removing the shit tray to change the clutch and get about 4kg of topsoil in each eye.

Definitely. My wife, kids and grandkids can use Ubuntu without any problems and minimal tutoring.

Try Linux Mint, even more like Windows, they will hardly notice the difference.

you mean the way it works properly without needing a driver disk? yeah, that is wierd ;)

100% linux here. What follows may read positive but is still a grump, because Microsoft stuff is so shite I had to spend a maybe year of my life learning linux.

That's the thing, the conversion to a proper operating system is not easy. You need to have the time to learn, and even like arsing about with computers. Or you could be one of the lucky ones who have everything set up and working in five minutes.

I now have an old PC with a dual tuner PCI card in it that can record eight channels of television at once, if the programs are on the right transports. All my computers run Ubuntu and Mythtv, and media is accessible on all of them. The system is like Tivo for geeks with bells on it. I can watch TV on my laptop in the garden over the network from the media server. I now watch TV when I want to, not when I have to. I have one printer that multiple computers can access. My favourites in Firefox update across the network and my files are accessible from any computer in the house. My files are backed up automatically.

I call it the computershite ethos. I go to the local dump with gardening waste, I return with someones cast-off computer. Or I use freecycle. Adding free software, I have the uber-tech computer home network of the gods. I use 2 PC's and a one laptop myself, the parents in law have 2 PC's and one laptop also. If I get a better PC from the dump odds are simply taking the harddrive from the old box and putting it in the new box will work. Try that with Windows and it'll throw a hissy fit looking for drivers and demanding the original product key.

I need Microsoft Office for work so I run it using Crossover Office. But Open Office is good enough 90% of the time. And I do keep XP on dual boot for games, but it's not often used.

I am a linux evangelist. Sorry. Macs are okay too, if you like throwing money about.

Err no, I mean the way it doesn't work at all with some makes of printer/scanner.

Like both the ones I have. (A Canon and an Epson, not exactly esoteric kit)

I want to like Linux, but until they fix it so that the non PC geek can operate it as easily as they can Windows or Mac, it'll always be a minority interest product.

Also, as far as techie problems with Linux go, you'll find really simple and definitive answers on a forum in seconds. Because it's basically built and modified by a bunch of enthusiasts, it's transparent to any programmers, and so the 'experts' do actually know what they're talking about. I prefer that approach to having to wade through MS's corporate manuals and internet guesswork, anyway.

I'm not a major PC geek and use Ubuntu - everything is plug and play, no issues at all. You might have to add a few programs to get a few missing Windows features you're used to but that isn't hard.

Saw some stupid bint in a Micra driving through town at about 20mph with a completely flat back tyre - not just a bit down - absolutely and completely flat, no air. It performed in the same way you'd expect a car with a completely square wheel would, i.e. THUD THUD THUD THUD whilst it bounces up and down half a foot. Despite there being many places she could easily have pulled over to get it changed, she happily thudded away into the horizon. It's not like she was trapped alone in the middle of the countryside. Hope the tyre shredded into bits and sent the car into a dramatic and uncontrollable spin, ultimately leading with her going off a cliff.

Incidentally, does anyone else feel death is the only satisfactory conclusion for displays of massive and obvious stupidity? Is this a problem?

Not from me , some people are just plain stupid with two of their three brain sells inoperative , Some have no common sence , my boss being one , very inteligent , he could work out the square route of an orange , he couldnt peel the fucking thing though

Death is slightly harsh, but an understandable thing to want for some people. The problem is clueless/stupid people sharing the same space as normal people, which is irritating. I have been studying a map of the world and have noticed a stack of small islands off the northern coast of Russia, all within the arctic circle too I think. Im sure one of these could be blagged for a crate of vodka or something, then a stupid colony could be formed. They would then be free to drive around with flat tyres to their hearts content. I have to admit to doing the odd stupid thing myself though, hopefully I could avoid getting deported on an extended holiday.

Perhaps the scheme could be extended, with a few local councils buying some for all the 'problem' housing association tenants, plus the scumbag criminals that they can't actually jail because of age/technicalities. There'd be no need for any form of expense other than buying/renting the island itself - just airdrop some food every few weeks and leave them to fashion their own form of society and government. Within a year tops, the island would be almost empty and ready for another shipment. If any of them tried to escape by boat/swimming, the Russian navy could just shoot them.

I'm grumpy because I've sliced the end of my finger off, cant work, haven't been allowed ale for 2 weeks (anti-biotics), no car (in the garage) and I've ran out of biscuits.

But besides that I'm normally a grumpy sod anyway!
