Thursday Idiot Sister finds someone has ripped the wipers off her kia shitbox. Goes to halfords and pays kerching for new ones. Today the wipers have been lifted off the screen but not damaged. She thus thinks she's being targeted.

Ma bends my ear about it. So I dig around my crap pile for a suitable canon camera, spend a few happy* hours converting it to motion detecting, and stick it on her window sill to hopefully find out who hates the social worker.

2 hours later, and her bezzie mate says she came home pissed and thought it would be hilarious to fuck with idiot's car after it had been fucked with before. So I'm wasting my time for idiots again.

You could have had a wank instead. Sorry about that chap!

Anyone who is prepared to muck about flashing firmware onto a random consumer grade camera to avoid buying something is OK by me. More deets of that and less about your sister would be good though.

Had emergency call out to one of the houses i'm responsible for - no hot water so go up into the loft to check tank. OMG its (virtually) full of (the previous tenants) shite, remove electricals so I can actually get up there for disposal in skip as thats easy and agree on a nice cleansing fire outside for the rest of the furniture/ bags of clothes/ random flammable crap once the weather picks up.

On the plus side, hot water is now restored. Amongst the straight to landfill crap are 2 samsung upright hoovers and a little tesco one that haven't burst into flames when I plugged them in and a nice pair of small mission speakers.

I am a bore.

This may not come as a surprise to many of you good fellows, but it was a nasty moment for me when I realised! Some random dog walking strangers asked me about my hobbies... oh dear, their eyes glazed over and the old chap actually fell into a coma after ten minutes of lecturing about how VW and BMW should NEVER have been allowed to buy a British institution!

Mission speakers to landfill?? Surely not!

Cock!

It seems my illness has affected my head/skull/jaw now and ALL my teeth are loose!  Some are repairable but at least 4 poor little sneggies have got to go to see the fairy... wonder if anyone will bring me some coins for under my pillow? Also, this dentist is a foriegn lady and mega scary! Got a bollocking for not doing a good enough job of cleaning them,  for smoking, for being ugly and for just generally existing.

Never mind, so long as she fixes them I don't care, don't need to be popular everywhere now do I? But, having had a look at the charges, it would appear that the Bentley is going to have to behave for a month or six as I shall be skint for the foreseeable future.

When did dentists become so expensive?

Shoulda bought an Audi A6.

Some shyster ambulance chaser on the radio talking about screwing compo out of Volkswagen.

He reckons people can claim even if they bought the car used. I was sort of considering an 2011/12 2.0 Dizzler A6 for a work car, bought a Merc instead.

The Yanks are getting £8,000 each, the Spanish £4,000. That could mean a practically free car!

Everyone should rush out and buy as many post 2009 2.0tdi Vagmobiles as they can afford- wonder if write-offs count? Salvage ex Taxi Octavias etc could soon be worth loads.

Its another "Dave sits in the house all day waiting for a delivery driver to not turn up" episode.

Just in what way can people actually claim compensation from VW? How and in what way were they harmed? Madness. FFS.... Ok, they cheated, but compensation? Greed culture.

You realise the whole dieselgate thing is about harmful emissions don't you?

But lets ignore the environment and talk about the fact that people made the decision to buy expensive cars on the basis of VW's "clean diesel" marketing and economy figures.

They were "harmed" as they didn't get the vehicles they were promised.

If you really can't see the issue with a multinational lying and cheating to the detriment of millions of consumers (and the environment) and don't think there should be any recourse then I have a bridge that you'd love to buy.

Ok... I stand corrected and am now informed. Thanks!

Have they suitably raised the VED on VWs now that their emissions aren't what they should be?

I’m with BOB to some extent, the emissions guff fitted to modern car engines is not put on there for the benefit of the individual who buys the car, its put on there for the benefit of ‘the environment’, i.e. everybody. VW should pay big time for cheating on the tests but owners sueing VW for thousands sounds very much like ‘where theres blame theres a claim’ to me. I think VW should be getting sued by the UK govt who are responsible for meeting clean air legislation and they can put the money to something that will benefit the environment, rather than people who bought a new car (which is still perfectly serviceable and useable by them) who now get £3k to buy a conservatory or whatever while ‘everybody else’ suffers the environmental consequences of VW’s conniving.

I like the idea of environmental payback but I think quite a lot of VW customers did give a shit about the environment, otherwise they would have bought V12 Jaguars or 70's Cadillacs.

There's also the issue of residuals, another reason people buy VWs.

Regardless of who gets the money I do think VW need to be heftily punished.

Call me sceptical, cynical, conspiratorial or whatever, but it would not surprise me one jot if this whole compo story had been fabricated by VAG to maintain the residuals on it's used stock. Let's face it, if they're seen to be really bad, no-one will want one. However, if there's a sniff that owning one could earn you COMPO!!1!1 then every chav and his Staffy will be lining up to buy them from the sub-prime finance dealers. Hence, VAG dealers can lose all their stock to the trade, and nobody gets stuck with a car they can't shift.

Later on, some halfway decent lawyer decides that the end users have not suffered a loss, and will therefore receive £FUCK ALL. VAG sell cars. Trade sell cars. Residuals stay high.

Job done.

I bought a 2010 VAG diesel and a V12 Jaguar.  Does that mean I have to compensate myself?  Or mount some sort of protest outside my own house, maybe?

This is the internet, so I'm sure someone will be along in a moment to tell me what I must think.

Pricing service bits for the vectra.

A genuine filter is apparently £41. You read that correctly.

Which they still have, as far as I know. There is no financial hardship being endured by these owners. Yes, VAG need a good walloping, but I fail to see where the owners of these cars get their entitlement to - unless the remap their cars have had as caused them to lose about 20mpg.
