The grumpy thread

Our dog was unusually unsettled on Christmas Day- he even turned his nose up at his Christmas dinner- eventually he did finish it off.

My wife blamed the house being full of presents and not like other days.

I think he realised my wife's mum was not there. Dogs are very intuitive.

I think all Fiestas are like that, and I've noticed the same on latest shape Focus.

Posted

Yep, noticed a few Fiestas like that and to be fair (from the picture) the bumper-wing interface doesn't look too bad, at least not compared to the rest. Maybe they're built in the Clio factory now? :)

That Fiesta bumper looks way too close to the bodywork, should be at least a couple of inches clearance, but then it should also be metal and mounted on spring steel irons.

I set the cruise control, the car is going at 70mph, it's been doing that for twenty miles. So why does knobhead in Peugeot go past at 72mph then pull in REALLY close in front then slow down. Then looks gormless when I flash my lights at him and goes all aggressive when I have to go back past. Then he does it AGAIN, this time to the car in front of me. Just why? (Because, twat).

Variable speed limits. Sign comes on: 60. Next gantry: 50. Next one: 40, stranded vehicle, lane 1 red X.

Next one has nothing on it. Everyone carries on at exactly 40 in case it's an error. Next one also blank so people dare to go to 50. Wouldn't kill them to tell you when they've done dicking with the speed limit.

I'm grumpy because instead of shouting obscenities at 'I wish it could be the day sponsored by Coca Cola TM every day' playing on the radio, I've now got to do the same with 'car less wispa' on bloody loop. I'm off to play some music which doesn't make my ears bleed.

Whoever he gave his heart to last Christmas, I hope they kept the reciept, unless they really did give it away the next day. It was faulty, and technically still within the warranty period.

Finding myself at a crossroads as the year draws to an end. Some of you might have seen that I came off my MZ (East German motorbike) last week, minimal damage and all repaired now :-) This combined with worsening legs (I was born with missing knee ligaments and a few other issues) means I'm increasingly looking at buying a car,as I think if chosen wisely I should be able to afford to run one, those of you with huge fleets, think yourself lucky!

My biggest issue is going to be insurance, seems I made a mistake when I was 18 in going classic,as 10 years on I have 0 ncb, despite not having made a claim.Naturally, shite is of interest,Favorit and Maestro being top contenders, but even those lowly chariots are coming in at £600 to insure, which is frankly absurd.Just looking for advice really.

Really? I'm just so used to sub £120 policies on the bikes, paying more than the car is worth just seems daft

Microwave has decided to go tits up. Are they making them worse quality now like with washing machines? 3.5 years out of a £150 panasonic doesn't feel like I've had my monies worth.

It is indeed daft, but unfortunately it's the way things are. Despite owning nothing but snotters throughout my life, I've probably paid enough in premiums to buy a mint XJ6 coupe. For each day of the week.

This might sound ridiculous, but have you tried getting quotes for proper tanks? Big shite, even in V8 flavour, can sometimes come in surprisingly low for "new" drivers.

I've had a full licence for 10 years, employed, off road parking and neasrly 30,its shit I tell you!

My current insurance breakdown is as thus:

Civic - £350

Dolly 1850 - £200 (Agreed value of £1000, ltd mileage, no commuting use).

Dolly 1300 - £150 (Agreed value of £1400 ltd mileage, no commuting use).

Although that is with a few years NCB on the Civic, also I'm saving about £80 on each car because multi-car discount, yo! So clearly the solution to your problem is to simply buy and insure more cars to increase the cost effectiveness...

It'd actually be cheaper to insure something brand new than the 55 plate Civic, older stuff is even more expensive.

Aye, but without the magic NCB you're only one step up from a 17-year-old with a fresh license - hence my putting the "new" in quotes. I do feel your pain - I stupidly let mine lapse while using Mrs_Duke's car, and I'll be in for a reaming when the Dolomite gets on the road despite having 20 years under my belt without a single incident.

Do look into a wider range of cars, though - it might be worth getting something you're not keen on until the premiums come down.

That may well be true for 10- or 20-yr-old cars, but stuff in the grey 'banger' area can sometimes be worth checking out.

The value of the car is almost irrelevant. It's the value of what you hit and how likely they think you are to hit it that matters.

I'm not defending insurers. They are C***s.

If you absolutely need a car (rather than a bike) then work out exactly how a year's worth of 'mpgs' stack up against the accompanying insurance premium. If your commute is less than 10 miles, there may be more leeway than you think.

Jesus H Christ. I am relatively new here, but I kind of assumed that this thread was for people with an interest in old cars who don't want to clog up the old car threads to have the occasional moan about something.

Have you ever posted anything about old cars?

It's all moaning about your family/relationships/eBay customers/sex life etc.

Not even moaning about cars. Can I suggest a New Year's Resolution?

Posted

In all fairness, only about 10% of my posts are about shite cars, and I left home long before I even started posting here. I'm sure he'll start ranting about cars fairly soon, he does own a Disco after all...

25miles a day,5 days a week,plus weekend use.also have a wife and 5 yr old that need ferrying around

To be fair, we do moan about things not being as good as they used to be, and that kinda goes hand-in-hand with the old motors thing. For example, plenty of us had a gurn about wind-back brake calliper pistons.

Posted

I popped out earlier for some baccy, and the interior fans didn't work on full speed... But the handbrake light came on the dash!

Eventually the fans blew some air out to de mist the window, along with some wiping with a rag and I could drive, where the fans came on a bit more. I'd best order a heater fan resistor ASAP! Got some money for crimbo from my gran handily!

Then the handbrake light no longer worked, but that means it's not the bulb (or it is and it just needs replacing...)

Id rather than fans worked than the bulb though tbh. Will keep an eye on that

We probably all like a bit of a moan here and there, but if 98.7% of your posts are complaining that .001% of your dust cap sales fell through/you don't like your mum/your bird is a nympho, something's wrong.

Too fucking right, if your mum is also your bird you need to move back to Norfolk.
