As for going self employed? It doesnt sound too bad, you can easily pay next to no tax if youre crafty with your outgoings

You think Pog's got the Maxi registered as a company car? 8)

Hey, hadn't thought of that. It would actually be large enough for the purposes too. I'm off now to stencil "Pog's Survey Co." down the side in dulux. L8RZ!

Fucking chav Fiesta drivers.......this morning I was walking my four year old daughter to school on a narrow bit of road with a narrow bit of pavement when an underseal-tidemark-Lexus-rear-light-bad-boy-bonnet-giant-back-box-Halfords-wheel-deal-stickerz-innit equipped Fiesta came roaring along the road at high speed....(ish). Just as he got level with us another car came the other way forcing knobhead to come in a bit close....made me flinch. And there were other parents and little-uns about as well.....Did he slow down....?....did he fuck....as he went past I shook my head and mouthed "wanker" and carried on. With that he screeched round behind us and pulled up on the other side of the road, wound down his window and then said...."It's firty along here...and I was doing firty....you got a problem mate...." Now I was fucking seething at this point and really wanted to drag him from his wank chariot and give him a good hiding....but not in front of the kids eh...? So I did the next best thing and blew him a big kiss....this must have enraged his little gafted-from-a-bit-of-foreskin brain and he revved up his motor and promptly stalled it....he restarted it, revved up and let all of sixty horses loose and made one wheel squeak and took off, he must of had concrete in his steering rack the way he was wrestling with the steering on a straight road.....twat...Really pisses me off when they drive like cunts so near a school.I then had to explain to Piper what a dickhead is.....

 I hate twats like that as well, I get them drive past my house like that, It's 30mph outside mine but I've seen them race past at up to 80mph sometimes, And i live an a busy main road into town with primary schools on. Pisses me right off.

That's why I'd like to see the Scottish system of "20mph when lights flash" and then put average speed cameras outside every school...

Masterchef. Tonight we have this waste of space on the box for an hour, with those two oxygen theives presenting it. "Cooking doesn't get tougher" - I disagree, try cooking a meal that getting your leg-over depends upon and not having any decent ingredients in the cupboard.

Made me laugh, that did

A numerically linked grump. After the best part of a month driving this 320i around trying to get used to the auto box. Im still getting low to mid 20's on the commute.I was hoping for a bit better than this.

That Fiat16V cock jockey from earlier Tim, I think you missed him.If you're in need of finding out who he is then all being well he'll be outside the dole office at 9.00am tomorrow!

Hmm, I'd say you were doing quite well.

I wouldnn't consider that too bad for a 2.0 auto either tbh.

hmm, indeed. If thats the case perhaps Im expecting too much. It has been bitterly cold each time Ive driven it so using heater/HRW/lights etc which can't be good for MPG, but then my commute isn't through town, its 3.5miles of empty duel carriage way.... Its the polar opposite of the escort though ie: it starts religiously, its quiet and pretty comfy. I think I'l live with the MPG for now.

Clutch. Gah!My daily (Seat Leon) has developed clutch judder. Its two years old with a MIGHTY 13000 miles on it and its juddering like a fifties dizzla. Anyway, off to dealer who says "Oh yeah, they all do that, needs a new clutch. I protested that 13000 miles is a bit light for a clutch and eventually they agreed that yes, its probably a fault. They'll change it under warranty. So I take a day off and get it done, and the diagnosis was "semi seized release bearing" All seemed ok at first, slight vibes on take up but maybe its my imagination. Anyway, this morning the fecker was practically undriveable as I couldnt get second or fourth gears at all. Managed eventually after it had warmed up a bit but all the ease has gone. So what do we reckon?1) Have they just slapped some WD40 on the original bearing and claimed the clutch has been renewed?2) Have they replaced the clutch but some bolts have worked loose (in 35 miles)3) Is it misaligned?Either way, its back in next week to be done again. This time I will be watching from the doorway to their service bay to see what they do. Bloody new cars, never again. Seat Leon? Just like a bloody Golf........

Centre plate in backwards? That reminds me, once worked in a garage with a guy who would bring in the odd weekend job, one Friday he dragged in a Mazda van for a clutch, he decided it needed a flywheel, so on the Saturday got one from a scrappy and put it all back together. two weeks later the van's back in with horrendous vibration, pulls it apart, can't see anything wrong and called me over, I ask him why everything's covered in filings, look up at the flywheel and it's hanging off. The guy didn't realise that, for alignment, the flywheel to crank holes are not symmetrical, he'd filed them to make it fit. Another trip to scrappys for a crank / whole engine, and the vans original flywheel skimmed, throws it all back together over the weekend, two weeks later it's back again, this time, in the absence of flywheel bolts he'd found some 'that would do', let's hope he's not working for Seat these days.

Not convinced a siezed release bearing would cause judder , In my experience its a wharped or contaminated driven plate or damaged pressure plate , or possibly even sticking on the input shaft splines , mind you its modern so im only guessing

I could be very wrong, but don't these have Dual Mass Flywheels ?If it is so, they could of just replaced the clutch and nothing else (I am lead to believe you are supposed to change the DMF along with the clutch)Please correct me if i am wrong

The E30 325i Touring auto I had last year barely scraped 18 mpg when used (gently) in the city. It would just about manage 25 mpg on a run.The 850 T5 auto I replaced it with was much, much cheaper to run.
Posted

If you're going to get an auto, get a monster petrol engined one. I get low 20's out my E320 round town, mid to high on a run. :)

Posted

I've been getting 25-26mpg out of the 2.6 Carlton on the run to work. Big petrol autos can be surprisingly economical as they have the torque to pull very high gearing.

Posted

Indeed, my old 24v Carlton GSi auto used to piss 33 mpg on a run and 23ish around towm.

Posted

Agree with ^. Big Vauxhall engines + auto box wierdly economical. V6 Omega auto, 24 mpg over here, worst enviroment for fuel economy EVAR

Posted

+3.The GMC Suburban 6.5TD I had was pretty good on fuel, varied from about 20 up to 26 or so.

Hmm yeah, it is all about torque with autos, which makes it a bit of a pig that the previous owner has changed the inlet manifold and throttlebody from a 325i, supposedly loosing low-end torque but gaining top-end powAh.I'll get a standard manifold and get it swapped over, see if it makes a difference.Makes me wish I'd just bit the bullet and bought a 540iA touring like I wanted.
