My nice new Merc shat its headgasket in spectacular style 3 days after I bought it. Not fucking happy. Waiting for the trader I got it from to come back from holiday to see what he has to say for himself.

back home at 2.30 am with sick wife - having had to keep her going from 3pm when she got ill. God, it was a bloody hassle to get her to go to hospital but what a pleasant experience when she was there. For a hospital that two months ago had huge queues and problems in A&E, she was transferred by ambulance at the local minor injuries unit to the city hospital and then wheeled straight in. TIme to wait at each, some ten minutes. Who said the NHS was rubbish!

Well done NHS, and good luck Mrs_M_O

Had the reply from the vets re Phoebe and it was, as expected, a load of bollox. Had to pay the £445 bill and that put me in a FOUL mood. I shall now complain to the RSVS and try and hang the bastards!

The MEEJA mainly, and those who have their own agenda.

The NHS is brilliant, it's just been let down by governments, stupid bloody league tables and a handful of patients who suddenly realise it's NOT a hotel and the world doesn't revolve around them.

Terry Pratchett has died.   :(

The time: 9.30 this morning.

The place: the A46 between Market Rasen and Lincoln.

The car: a red Hyundai i10, weaving all over the road and yo-yoing between 30 and 35mph (in NSL and 50mph limited areas).

The occupants of said Hyundai (I saw at close quarters pulled up alongside them by the Waitrose turn-off in Lincoln): a middle-aged couple that I think of as being called Murgatroyd and Ethel Huddfugler.

No, no, none of the rest of us on the road this morning had anything in particular we had to get to, not the HGVs or the plumber's van behind me, and NO, there's no nicer way to spend a morning.

Sorry but I would be a twat right up their arse and beeping the horn. I know it's not the thing to do but slow driving for no reason really pisses me off

Posted

I was sorely tempted to beep and tailgate :(  But restrained myself.  The journey was only about 10 minutes longer than usual, and I was only 2 minutes late for my Lincoln appointment, so it wasn't exactly catastrophic.  It was mightily frustrating, though - I KNOW that an i10 can negotiate that road safely at more than 35mph.

Perhaps there was a good reason that the Huddfuglers were erratic and slow on the road this morning, but honestly it just looked like they were on a morning trip to Waitrose.

I thought I was going to be swapping my CL for an M3. i knew it was CAT C but found out it was CAT B just before I was about to do the swap.

The owner says it'd been miscategorised, which sounds plausible as it's had a VIC check (showed up on the HPI check I did) so I guess it's legally okay. Bit disappointed but probably saving a load of ball ache in the long term.

Just read that Sir Terry Pratchett has gone for the final ride on the back of Binky to the desert of black sand. He was without doubt my favourite author and I think that I'll read one of his books tonight in his memory. RIP Sir Terry and my thoughts are with your family.

I am always very suspicious of people wanting swaps.

What is the reason? Especially something very sellable like an M3

Now if you had some unsellable barge like an old Merc......... Oh.

Seconded. He was just such a gent. Capturing the world in such an amazing way.

His tv programme about death was massively moving and a fitting way to remember him.

It coped well until our population increased in the last ten years, that's not a "immigrants swell the population" thing, fact is that lady's keep firing baby's out of their v jay jays and there are too many people for the infrastructure

O RLY?

The birth rate tumbled from the 70's to the new century. A gradual increase since 2001 also seems to be tailing off.

Then of course there is the argument that a desirable decrease in births will lead to an inverted triangle... Less babies means less workers paying tax to fund ALL the stuff the healthier and longer living older generations rely on (NHS pensions etc).

There has been a recent study that concluded contrary to the inverted triangle argument a lower birth rate would bring economic benefits, but it relies quite a bit on families funding things that came from the state in the last century and also concedes that taxes would have to increase. Also mentioned in the study is the problems facing countries such as Japan, feeling the effects of a very low birth rate impacting negatively on the economy, so it seem to be a very fine balancing act.

As for it all being the fault of ladies and their semiautomatic vee-jayjays? Well, the babies were put in there by somebody, it takes two to tango and to quote one of the greatest* social commentators* of our time:

"Why didn't you put something on the end of it?"

An increasing birth rate is not the responsibility of one gender.

I think the real trouble with the NHS is an apathy and a complacency of a population who will rush to sign petitions about Jeremy Clarkson, vote on the X factor and pee themselves about the the latest EastEnders murder mystery sooner than they will question the action of the elite few who could actually improve the system. The elite few who it benefits to see it fail.

Same as a lot of public services :(
