After discussion with Mrs PBK - Norfolk is ok again and so is East Sussex. Where the fuck is East Sussex?

To the left of Kent and 'tis a lovely county on the whole.  I'm hoping to move there in the next few years as living in London continues to erode my sanity.  Plus I need more space for buying shite, got fuck all spare where I live and new parking restrictions mean I can't just leave stuff parked up on the street anymore.

^^ I feel your pain.

If there was a lottery with the winning prize being the possibility to nuke a very particular part of the UK, I'd buy all the tickets I could and specifically aim at London N9. Oh yeah. Obviously I'd have moved at that point.

East Sussex sounds more pricey than Norfolk. Albeit a little less floody.

The Titanic could be considered 'a little less floody' than Norfolk.

Norfolk is pretty well managed floodwise, because a lot of land is reclaimed it needs to be managed (pumping stations, rivers dredged, drainage dykes) and flash flooding is rare as the water doesn't collect on the hills and race into the valley.

It's only my first day (20 minutes, really) of trying, but I can't seem to get the company vehicle below 25.8mpg. I'm quite disappointed in this and feel more driving round in 2nd gear at 30mph plus is possibly the answer.

I think I'll set myself a target of sub 20 by the end of the year.

Am on hols with a fiat 500 hire car and what a hateful car it is. It is devoid of any driving experience what so ever. You can't pull away without it feeling like it's going to stall or revving its nuts off, but even if you rev it's nuts off it takes seconds even in first to get close to the red line. The suspension is awful and inspires no confidence whatsoever, if you just shimmy the steering from side to side it feels like a boat and is most disconcerting.

I have owned several fiats, which have been buzzy fun little cars to drive and believe the modern equivalents are supposed to have decent reviews for driving experience. But I despair if this is what a young driver feels driving a car is all about its fecking atrocious.

Oh and thanks Europe car for giving me a car with no washer water and even worse oil not showing on the dipstick.

Still it's nice being on hols. :)

Cambridgeshire isn't much better.  You only need a dog to piss in the River Ouse and St Ives is flooded.

My youngest trying to lock the front door of the house decided to not to use the head of the key,but to twist the whole key ring around by the key fob for my Nissan snapping the plastic body. This is now on the kitchen window sill with the glue drying.

I got the decat pipe fitted to the Rover of Doom today.  The cat was pretty blocked, but it's made very little difference to the performance - 0-60 is still taking around 19 seconds, which is shit.  I plumbed the old boost gauge back in and it's making about 0.5 bar boost.  So it's losing a feckload from somewhere - either a split hose, or maybe even a stuck wastegate or blocked intercooler, although I drove it with a mate in the passenger seat listening out of the window and he reckoned he could hear the leak so probably a hose.  Which means I've got to spend a chunk of my weekend crawling around under the bloody thing again trying to find out what is leaking.  And then probably spend some more money.  Arsecheeks.

going to see some rellies at the weekend. I am doing the 'catering'. One of them is a vegetarian who also doesnt like spicy food, cheese, spinach or salad. WTF? Bowl of tomatoes for him, roast pork for us

Got talking to a chap round the corner from me this evening about his gorgeous looking Rover 75 Connie 2.5 V6....It really does look sweet.

Turns out its only done 35k from new, I asked if he might be selling it soon and he said yes he has been thinking about selling it recently  :-D ......Then his daughter came outside and piped up "Oh my husband will be having that when dads finished with it"

FFS shut up and go back inside ya silly cow, who asked you?

It was lovely though, cant imagine there are many better early 75 Connies still around.

A piece of hosepipe and a jerry can would help you in your quest.

No matter what you give the fussy B. he is going to winge so tell him to bring his own food, or give him a plate full of twigs and a couple of rounds of bread.

Soylent...sorry, Quorn do quite a good pie.

It looks like steak in gravy with a puff pastry topping.

I think only Morrisons stock them.

Haha. My Dad's other half has a sister who is a vegetarian who doesn't like vegetables!! Or cooking. She basically lives off doritos and pepsi I think and as you'd expect is a nightmare to cater for... :? :?

Me talking to the GF who was driving and only passed her test last year.

Me: Its raining, better stick ya lights on

GF: But its not dark?

Me: I know but its always best to put your lights in when driving in wet conditions

GF: But I can see where im going..

Me: Yes darling you can, but can everyone else see you in all this spray?

GF: Ok fine there on, but i still dont think I need them on

Surely Shirley new drivers are told about these basic requirements when learning to drive?? Obviously not.

What doesnt help is automatic headlights.

Since some fud decicded that adding more sensors and electronics to a car to make the headlights come on automatically was a great idea, Joe Average really doesnt ever have to consider his headlights - the car takes care of that when it gets dark.

However when its raining or foggy, visibility is reduced to the point where headlights are needed, but its not dark enough to trigger the sensor to switch them on. Since Joe Average never has to think about headlights, he doesnt switch them on manually because he assumes the car will take care of that if its needed.

Oh and everyone drives silver or grey cars these days, so motoring on a foggy day is a nightmare.

Bit of a grump as I fear for the future. I'm a member of several model bus sites on facebook, most of the members are very well behaved and I have no qualms trading with them but problems always seem to come from the youngsters. It's a dying hobby we really need to get more young people involved in but these kids really aren't helping themselves as they just end up pissing everyone off and getting banned. Some examples:

-Pestering to buy something that's not for sale (usually for far less than it's worth)

-Asking inane/stupid questions that can easily be answered by google

-Wanting to buy something and pay later as they can't afford it now

-Making an insulting offer well below the advertised price and then taking the hump when it's rejected

-Placing a wanted ad for something that doesn't even exist

-Placing a wanted ad but only being willing to pay way below the going rate (had a good example yesterday with someone wanting a plain white repainted Enviro400 for less than a tenner. Those cost £20-30 new so you'd be looking at £50-60 minimum for a repaint. Jog on son.)

-Agreeing a deal  and then finding excuses to get out of it

-Buying something 'because they really want it' and then readvertising it straightaway at a higher price

I'm all for supporting the younger generation but they really don't seem to know how to behave in adult society anymore. I was 13 when I started but I would never have dreamed of behaving like some of these kids. It's not as if buying stuff is difficult. See something you like, contact the seller and pay for it, and if you can't afford it don't try to buy it. Simples.

My own grump - good ol fashioned moaning about the weather.

But if I do try to work in between rainstorms, this shit tends to happen....

A slightly bumpy bit of a track I clear every now and then had turned into a bog. I had to then trudge back up a couple of kilometers of steep-ass hill to get the 4x4 and wrestle it down the narrow track to tow the tractor out.

This time last year, I was on holiday in Britain and buzzed around in one of these and felt pretty much the same. At first, I gave it some beans, until I took a large 2 lane roundabout which our SAAB 9000 used to take in its stride. The 500 went very wobbly in a frankly scary way. 'Oh well, it's a shopping car, just take it easy', I thought. Then I took a small, poorly maintained roundabout in Keswick at very low speed and the rear end was skittish and very unsettling - even Mrs_Jon picked up on it as a passenger. If you do try and actually store anything of useful size in the boot, don't be tempted to gently press it shut with your knee, as you'll crease the boot lid. I do see the appeal but only to pensioners and the like, really. Our old Uno 70 sx ie was much, much more fun to drive.

Mrs_Jon started a little game of hitting me and shouting out the colour of car when she saw another 500, until it became apparent that they were very popular and I was much better at spotting them. Funny how the game lost its appeal after that....

That looks well rooted, probably best left where it is for the sake of the local wildlife that call it 'home'

I can remember being a right old useless little shit on the internet back in the day but it certainly has got worse. Now I've grown up and I am selling models on ebay and elsewhere I find myself inundated with stupid messages clearly written by kids, the last one on ebay wanted me to hold the item for a month after he had won it on ebay so he could pay for it. Unsurprisingly he had plenty of negative feedback from sellers who he had never paid but luckily he never bid which saved me the grief. I think the essential problem is that the age of people using the internet is getting lower and lower with predictable consequences.

Bad luck Our 455 was four wheel drive and it never got stuck even in the bogg garden after rain, the replacement Kubota gets stuck though as it weighs over a ton.
