Weather forecasters...

 

A while back the forecast said it would be Scorchio for the next two weeks, so I literally took the entire roof off someones house...tiles, boards, insulation etc so we could change some rotten beams and rebuild with new tiles. A day and a half into the job and a massive thunderstorm hit, and it has been pissing down with Biblical style rain ever since. The area is on "orange Alert" for hail and rain storms ever other day which is one step down from End Of The World style weather problems. The showers are so heavy that most of the farms round about have lost entire crops and fields mud-sliding onto the roads happens most nights. My own house roof leaks too - while its fine during normal rain, these massive downpours seem to overcome the flashing around the chimney base and it pours through the attic and drips through the lounge ceiling right into my Epson printer, which is now even less willing to work than normal.

 

Then the sun comes out and the temperatures rocket up to the high thirties and everything starts to dry out and you think "maybe head back to the job site and get some more done" and I get there, remove some tarps and it immediately pisses down again.

 

Fuck this, its mid July in the South of France - its supposed to be hot as hell.

Oh! I've been watching the thunderstorm over France on lightningmaps.org, waiting for the one over Italy to swing around our way. The roofers came today at 7am to change our roof here, they gave up at 11. At least they managed to sheet what they'd done before the rain started proper. I had to endure a brand-new Clio dCi for a week.

 

As big as my Megane Phase I, with noticeably less interior space. As dull to drive as the Megane but without any of the comfort due to VAG-inspired hard seats, hard suspension and 16" wheels with rubber band tyres. 

 

Modern design trends mean it looks like a molten rhinoceros and OMG NCAP STARS mean it has less road visibility than a nuclear fallout shelter !

 

Cheap, hard plastic straight out of a Wartburg all over the interior, ridiculous fake chrome details that reflect the sun straight into your eyes, a massive touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard and HAL2000 pinging every couple of minutes to remind you that the rear seatbelt is not fastened, because you really want your backpack to be safe in case of a crash. A crash that is inevitable, of course, because there's a blind spot the size of Rutland behind those C pillars !

 

Rubbish... £16K worth of rubbish, in fact, designed not by engineers but by the cynics at the marketing department. I reckon that Autoshitters of the year 2044 will be in real trouble.

However, I am grumpy because a friend's BX, fresh from a very thorough restoration, has been smashed up after some idiot drove into the back of them and punted them into another car. It's bright fuggin' white and very shiny. Pay attention idiots! It's why I never want to thoroughly restore a car again. It happened to me nine months after the 2CV was restored. I'll stick to shit heaps.

I think the army although large is underfunded and using outdated equipment. Infact I think the whole of Russia is falling a part infrastructurally as all the money goes to the few chosen big wigs and not a hell of a lot of it makes it down to the ground. ^{^ I tried that, your Lordship. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I was using Mercedes reinforced screenwash hose, and when I tightened it up, the Fiat hose just went flat. It looks like the sort of stuff that Austin Rover used to put over wiring, and is unlike any screenwash pipe I have ever seen before. I cant even use self-amalgamating tape on it as the little ridges in the pipe prevent a proper seal. Verdict: Cheap SHIT.}
