The grumpy thread

Some works places frown upon swearing too.

Posted

Some even frown upon visiting non-work-related websites.

But a set of boobs popping up on your screen for the whole office behind you to see is a sacking offense.

Posted

I'm fairly prudish when it comes to that sort of thing. I find women (I'm not married to) far more attractive with clothes on. I also don't like it when too many non-shite cars appear.

Posted

To be fair soft porn (i.e topless etc) should be in the off topic bit (with a content warning) or the cars and birds (or whatever it's called) thread. If anyone's offended by this sort of thing then report it, can't do anything if we don't know about it.

BOOBS!

I know the number is dwindling, but a few people in here still do have a job - and need it to be able to pay the fucking bills.

I still have a job - at the mo. Most of my work revolves around pensions and therefore a lot of annuities, or at least did until yesterday. Thanks a lot you Tory twat.

We will have to wait and see what this means for employment going forward though but I think there is more than enough to keep me busy but will have to see.

I should have been studying for a while now with the plan to go fully independent specialising in annuities but that has gone well up the swannie. However I am looking on it as a blessing that I have been a bit tardy on this and I am still in employment. Ironically I would have been totally boned if I had got my life in order sooner. Result (of sorts).

However this might make the annuity providers start making their prices more competitive which is GR12 as they are right cheeky greedy cunts, but I still see 99.99% of people taking the lump sum and frittering it away which will lead to a massive benefits need in the future or alternatively doing a buy to let thus fucking up the housing market further. However this government wont wave to worry about that as it won't become apparent that they have fucked it up until at least 2020 by which time all the tax from the 'cashed in' pensions will have filled the coffers and someone else will be in charge. Wankerz

In non grumpy news though I have just got a skygo pass from a chap at work so am off to watch some expensive sky movies shizzle for free.

Supposed to be viewing some caravan's this weekend but the other half's Outlander has thrown it's clutch plate out the window!

Anyone know of a decently priced fitter in the N Shropshire area?

Re: Adrian's 740, I have a straight, rot-free Volvo saloon shell +V5 here, free to a good shiter's home. Sadly it's an 850. Ah well buddy, I bet you were glad you weren't in a frilly C-reg Micra.

I've heard from a little birdie that another V-brick will shortly be heading north of the border...

Do you have a spare handbook with that shell?

That would be right... I may even do one of those live collection things.

I don't think so. I'll have a rummage this aft, and report back if I come up with anything.

Parts Gone:

Doors

springs

seats

...and some other bits.

Still available:

Engine

Auto box

Subframes

Panels

bumpers

...and loads of other shiz.

The shell can go for re-shell/track project, it has good front/back screens in, but assume nothing else. It has VIN plates, V5, SORN, 'P' reg plates etc.

It's on a trolley, I can help with lifting it.

Or shout if you need a front cut, or rear quarter etc, to fix yours, I have cutting gear.

(Replies in my breaking thread please (see sig) or by PM to avoid thread drift. Ta.)

You'd think after 30 years,4 children,ups and downs,sickness and health,richer and poorer yadda yadda...

Today Mrs N got a new job which will involve her doing a lot more miles,so thoughts turned to a cheaper to run car . I'm thinking 330d or maybe a D5 XC70 (I don't know why,but there's lots of ex-plod ones around).

She pipes up ,with what could be a pivotal comment in the future of my marriage, ' I quite fancy an Audi convertible....... a white one would be nice'!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF? I feel betrayed.

work wants to fundamentally change my job - basically taking me off my rather nice salary to a much lower basic and bonus, staring from 1 April (yep, in one and a half weeks), despite a three month notice period on my employment. Worse still, the first two months is unacheivable, therefore seeing me on basic only (about half my current salary) for two months. Any advice apart from constructive dismissal!

Ask for a formal interview, and quietly drop into the conversation that your sister's an employment tribunal lawyer..................

First thing i'd be doing is contacting an employment lawyer for the right advice, i suspect a sudden change of contract with little or no notice is an own goal for them unless you've been employed less than 2 years (or your present contract has a variability clause), but i'm far from knowledgeable my union (don't suppose you're in one) always sorts stuff like this out.

Tricky one this.

I would hate to be an employee or an employer nowadays though. I have been both in the last ten years and it is a legal minefield whatever side of the fence you are. If you are trying to do the best for the company as an employer, or just protecting yourself as an employee you are going to get tripped up by employment law all the way!

As I am neither now, this is of no help whatsoever of course. Sorry!

This sort of thing is why it is still neccessary to belong to a trade union. Forget the politics of it if you wish, but you need expertise (and sometimes muscle) on your side when employers start shoving you about.

Fuck me sideways, trying to get some temporary insurance cover to drive the Subaru back on Monday, i've just got off the phone from Adelaide who insure HGV drivers (bloody cheap to be fair) and me heads spinning, why the hell do they have to make things so complicated, no joy there and there's not enough bandwidth in the whole bloody world wide web to even attempt to summarise the conversation.

SWMBO is currently trying her insurer, she's been on the phone 2 minutes and already got the hump with all the identity bollocks.

aarrgh.

^^^  "Yes of course it's an import, Subaru are made in Japan."

"Yes of course the wheels are alloy. They are steel, an alloy of iron and other elements"

"Yes of course it has an anti theft device. The doors are fitted with locks as is the ignition switch"

AAAAGGHHH!!!!!!!

"Is there anything else you would like to tell us?"

Oh yes!

I have rewritten this post a few times.  I realised I got too involved and heart-on-sleeve about it.  So here's the condensed version:  there's pressure on me to throw my belongings away, scrap my cars (that mostly cost me £0 presently) and stay in my room and not be seen by anyone.  There's also vitriolic rumours being spread about how much of a burden I am behind my back while to my face it's all sunshine and light.

This is not a good place for me to be, it's bad for my health, it's bad for my finances and worst of all it's preventing my business from growing at a time when it wants to do just that.

If you see a for sale thread appear in the near future, this is why.  I really desperately hope it doesn't come to that because once the beige Princess is gone I really will be trapped here.

That sounds like somebody else doesn't want you to find your own way in the world which your cars and art allow you to do.

I'd be looking to assert my independence if possible and not bend to their will, but I have no knowledge of what you owe them in other walks of life.

Whatever happens I wish you the best.

^ Agreed, Vulgalour, i have no idea of your circumstances but i feel some familiar vibes in your post from 25 odd years ago when someone was arranging my replacement, a truly bad time in my life that was that had long term repercussions.

Do exactly what you want and what your sense of fair play tells you whats right, both for you and your own sense of justice, you know what and who you are deep inside and its probably not what you're being told.

I could write a book on this, the bloody long term damage that can be inflicted mentally by one person on another is unbelievable.

It's two people doing the damage, just like it was many years ago.  The difference is that this time I have a stronger support network so I'll probably be okay.  Sometimes it just makes me want to shout at everything though.

Sorry to hear you're having troubles Mr. Vulgalour.   I don't have any sage advice to give except use the support you have and keep your chin up...

I'm sure I have a couple of 850 handbooks and a Haynes for an 850

You'd be surprised how much built up tension this can relieve. Shout at things Vulg, you'll feel the benefit. I had an argument with the toaster the other say and it felt great.

The last time I had an argument with my toaster I lost, it stayed down and burnt my muffin. Next time I'm pulling the plug.

I'm sure this is a euphemism... ;-)
