Does anyone else struggle with new tools not looking like the old ones / ones you've always had.

All the time, also the tool I've been using and put down, which vanishes into thin air; previously I could blame my terrier who would run off with them, but as he's been gone a few years now I must either have a poltergeist or terrier ghost that runs off with them instead.

Losing stuff.

Only today I went into a shop, paid for my stuff by debit card then panicked as I couldn't find my wallet. Obv must have had it as I had the debit card... Frantic pocket slapping and searching. The lass on the till started laughing. Wallet was in my mouth! Put it between my teeth whilst packing the bag. FFS.

No longer made by Finnigans, Hammerite is now an ICI product.

And there, gentlemen is the problem.

6 days ago Pikeys left the Common by me, leaving god knows how much shite there, and burnt out tyres etc... council cleared it up - and by Fuck today another fucking load have turned up

Fucksticks and cockwombles

The pikeys down the road from me left a couple of days ago. At least they piled their shite up before they left, but I think it should be considered as fly tipping. Not hard to find the fuckers as they only moved about 5 miles down the road.

Not true, REACH regulations mean that all the harmful stuff that used to make it work so well that used to be in there can't be used by the people who make the alkyd base resin, rendering it shit.

It's only gonna get worse as well as all sorts of solvents, catalysts and accelerators become unavailable as it costs too much to put them through REACH compliance.

Hammerite is made by Akzo Nobel now, don't think ICI exist anymore.

You can clean hammerite off with turps now - the old stuff needed thinners.

Like a lot of things, not worth a wank nowadays.

yep, like English Electric, Vickers and Metro-Cammell, and the rest if proper industry in this country, ICI no longer exists.

Akzo Nobel is owned by the dirty french.

Dutch actually and they seem to be a good firm to work for.

I have no time to enjoy my cars.   The free time I do get is not compatible with car tinker time and I can't seem to shift my hours around to suit.  The Rover got a grand total of 4.5 miles under its wheels last week so I'm not even getting out and about in that.  I desperately want to make good progress on the Renault and Princess, I have the motivation to do it but the time, money and working space just aren't lining up together as I need them to.  Really frustrating.

Asked to find the Hedge trimmer by the old folks, Twas in the shed on a roll of moldy carpet. Grabbed it and many hordes of spiders the size of cats came out to complain about the unrest.

I slightly soiled myself - I am shamed

Maxxis High Roller 11s, they seem to get really good reviews and hopefully ideal for the mix of riding I do.

Someone said they shed mud very well which I need as the gap between top of tyre and fork .'bridge' is pretty low so I get bogged down easily when it's muddy. A fork upgrade might be next.

Yeah, good shout. I liked them when I had them. Good tyres are worth the extra cash.

I'm mad as fuck now!

I went to work this morning to a substation. This particular one has a small old office building attached to it that's now used as storage and a tea room.

After being in there a few hours I start to notice what appeared to be fleas on my shirt. I thought wtf, and then actually looked closer to find hundreds of the little bastards all over my shirt, trousers, shoes and by now they had gotten under my shirt onto my skin!

Turns out some tosser has had a dog in there, dog hairs on the chairs and floor, (why? Why would anyone bring a dog to work like that?) at some point that's clearly had an infestation problem and now the fleas are everywhere. The chairs and carpets in the building are crawling with them.

It's disgusting and I'm now furious as I've had to drive miles back home, wearing flea infested clothes and get a shower, wash my clothes and then hoover the house behind me so the fleas don't contaminate my house or get on my dogs. And of course the van cab now also has fleas in it so I've had to buy some flea killer spray and go over the van interior with it.

Fucking unbelievable!

I k kw I'm a total cock most of the time but I always try to be reasonable with people and be nice, today that didn't happen

Frontera booked in at the garage I use all time by my wife 5 days ago for a retest (last day I get it for free) take it in at about 0930.

Normal guy isn't there just one of the ones from the workshop. Says I was supposed to be there at 0830 and he's booked extra work and can't do it until Tuesday.

If it hadn't been the last day I might have said bugger and OK, but, we were never told it was booked in for so early, explained it was a retest and couldn't afford another £35 on top of the fee for them changing get there and cat. He just wouldn't have it.

I lost my shit a bit and had to walk out, didn't swear or shout but did call him a wanker loud enough to the wife and sent her in to deal.

What I don't get it, as we've taken loads to them over the years why not just say 'sorry looks like it's a mix up or something, leave it with us and we'll see what we can do". It's what I have done when I had my own business and makes everyone happy. If we weren't there on time then why not ring us?

Now, as the cars still there, weather they do the work or not I'm never taking anything there again. Yeah that's me being a cock but really 4 there and 4 bolts on a cat change isn't going to take hours.

Edit: well chuff me if they didn't go and do it anyway. Cost me £70 still though.

Said he revved the nads off it for about 30 mins to get it to pass the emissions. It's a new cat and I didn't get any new sensors. Still it's passed now.

^^Three types of Garages IMHO

Some that go the extra mile

Some that just go the mile

Some that don't even go the mile but still charge for it

ICI is now Inneos I think, and by all accounts they are a bit shit, I'm reliably informed.

I've just found out that everyone's insurance is due to go up from the 1st November on renewals. The IPT (Insurance premium tax) which everyone pays is currently 5.52% but from the 1st Nov it's going up a to massive 9.5% meaning a £100 policy will be an extra £4.

This isn't just cars, it's homes as well, what a bastard.

Yup you must have missed all the posts about it after the budget, they will still claim to be helping the motorist with fuel duty freeze though.

It seems like the more people they switch over the less the system can cope - most of the crashes at the moment seem to be login related, and the emails have started saying    My top tip for AEs at the moment is to save the contingency forms to your PC the first time you log on. You can only get them while logged on, and you need them to test when it's broken..... 20150820_154737.jpgI am having some fun with it though :)

Logged on to my old system today and.... My switchover date is now September 2nd

So that's 3 different dates in a week, see what happens next week

They have been emailing contingency codes all week just in case they are needed!

I got a phone call from the garage today, AE needed to know how to print contingency forms (the ones I saved earlier...) and as mentioned earlier has no clue about computers.

I talked him through it on the phone, and he managed to find them and print but not before he ended up in totally the wrong directory reading me what he thought the filenames said... something about Mozzarella... probably should be a grin that we got there at all without me having to go show him or find a computer to ssh into his from.

Chester le street has 2 petrol stations in the town center, except 1 has just closed for a refurb well actually it has been pulled down. So the other has put up its prices by around 4ppl.

Try the Torq station at Barley Mow.

Or sainsburys at the arniston centre...
