Phoned up my insurers about the Lancia to be told I can't take out a policy because the car isn't registered to me. Surely that can't be right?

Posted

Can't sleep and didn't have anything else to read so for some reason thought I would look at retro rides..... Wtf? Almost every car in the "readers ride" section is now fucked. No matter what it is or its age it's lowered and then an engine swap??

Maybe it's me and I just don't get it. Why do they all need more power*? What does it matter that it's a tiny bit lower? If I wanted to drive a car with a modern engine and suspension I'd buy one not fuck up an old one ruining it beyond repair.

The final straw was some silly twat has put a mk4 escort on a sierra floor to make it rwd. It makes no sense.......

Go back to bed!

Yeah, sounds right. Their game, their rules.

Try running a mainstream car quote through Compare The Market - first with you as the registered keeper, and second with "spouse" or "other" as the keeper. Loads of insurers bail out at that point, I suppose the risk to them is that if it's not your car you're not looking after it.

Go back to bed!

Indeed, you'll never get to sleep if you're not actually in a position to do so.

As a chronic insomniac I have noticed that if I lie awake half the night I still feel better in the morning than if I get up and surf the web, it's almost as though I have slept, as opposed to feeling like utter useless rubbish the next day.

So I don't get bored I listen to audiobooks, I have a laptop next to the bed full of them. I'm currently listening to Stephen King.

Have a word with a broker, it's not that unusual a situation and they will be able to sort something. If you're married it's almost never an issue if the car is in your spouses name, a married couple is effectively treated as one entity

-100 internet points for missing obvious TOM JONES opportunity

I would just like to point out that I will not be marrying you for insurance reasons.

Both myself and Phil who currently has it were insured with Admiral (I think) try giving them a call as I've always found them helpful with insuring odd cars.

Weren't Gartrac doing that in the 80s, and Ford doing that in the 90s with the Escort Cosworth? :-)

Gartrac used custom fabrication and mk2 escort stuff on their rwd conversions so people could reshell their mk2 rally cars into them. You can upset an escort cosworth owner by telling them their car is a sierra in a pretty frock, well I did to my mates brother

Proper grumpy old man here. I hurt like a thing with a penchant for pain with added spikes of glory for anal intrusion. I don't know what to do with myself I hurt that much.

Also, just taken Phoebe over for her x-rays which should have been free (I thought as it's part of 'aftercare') and got charged £120 for two fucking pictures of her knackered bones! I didn't even qualify for a bloody vet to come out and tell me how she is or how it's all healing and I had to send the nurse that brought her out, back in to ask! At least they did it straight away, there for 10:45, sedated, x-rayed, sedation reversed and out by 12:00!

She's now fast asleep on the sofa wrapped up in a duvet (after effects of the drugs) which is where I want to be, but I can't move her....

Think I shall make myself a bed on the floor, drug myself to oblivion and have a snooze - if at all possible.

It pisses me off as well when cara was poorly I got a similar experience, you'd think that the price of the procedure phobe had would include after care x rays as it's obvious that they would be needed to see how she's healing

All I know from back in my insurance days was that you need to have a financial interest in something before you are allowed to insure it. A V5 of course is not proof of ownership anyway so not sure what difference that would make to them who it is registered to, I would have thought who the actual owner was would be the important bit.

Maybe they don't want to hit you up for the whole lot before they've actually started, else you'd be running out the door screaming.

Isn't it also illegal to have two policies on the same vehicle?

Also tried Footman James but they won't do it at all, have gone on comparethemarket and that is giving some quotes, but had to make up Phil's details. Is he reachable at the moment?

SWMBO spotted this sad-looking ZR Diesel at her work this afternoon.

Not sure why it's there, do dizzlers suffer from OMGHGFPSADVDVCRGSOH too?. There's a Mk1 Mitsi Lancer GSR parked next to it in a similar state of abandonment. Insane.

Nope, but would create difficulties if they find out when you make a claim. You'd get paid out but it would be a nobache going backwards and forwards between the two

I've just been to the GP about my tinnitus (which I've had for 10+ years, but is now very bad) I knew I would need to see a consultant, so I just needed a referral. Well, after waiting 2 weeks to get an appointment at my local surgery I spent 1hr waiting then 5 minutes with the doctor, surprise, I need to see a consultant. I then have to speak to reception about making me an appointment with a consultant, I say just make me the soonest one possible, I don't care when/where, I'll be there. They can't do this, but will call me in 1 weeks time at 08:30 to discuss the appointment with the consultant .... wtf, can't they just book a damned appointment instead of wasting a week before discussing it.

Whenever my phone and internet shits itself and I report the fault, the company phone me back to tell me they will be phoning me back later.

More you couldn't make it up from evilbay. If you sell there you may be aware of the defects nonsense. N how someone can leave you "A+++++++" feedback, and then stab you in the back with a 1* item as described.

Well there is a form you can fill in for back stabbers, and it will get the defect removed. There are several of us that post this fact on the powerseller board at every opportunity, to help other sellers and stick it to ebay.

Except, they've changed the rules, and it's now banned to post any link to help or reporting pages. You have to find it yourself starting from the main help page. The wheeze being it's not actually linked anywhere at all. You can't find the report form, you can't report it. Problem solved!

Had an automated call from "your bank" saying there was suspected fraud on my card. It was asking me to press 1 to confirm my details etc but it sounded very dodgy to me so I hung up nad rung them directly. Long story short, it was from them because apparently my card had been used somewhere dodgy today during the time I was at work. Glad they're so hot on it, but the downside is that I don't have a card for the next 3-4 days

^^^Careful here. If you hang up but the fraudster does not, the fraudster can still be on the other end of the line when you dial your bank from the same phone.  Phone in again from a mobile.  Discussed here under "phone fraud": http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/moneybox

I do remember seeing such scams so I left it an hour or so before I rang back

I have an outstanding bill of £445 from Phoebes previous vet. I wrote to them last Wednesday stating the reasons for my displeasure with them and how I thought their service was appalling and their treatment of Phoebe even worse!

Their reply?

They re-sent the bill and added a £6 'admin' charge!

raise a formal complaint and at the end of it suggest that they should notify their insurers. In the short term it means they will have to deal with it properly. In the longer term they might decide its not worth chasing

OK this is when I don't like the Internet... I don't use Facebook very often but i check it every now and then. In the big list of "people you may know" is trigger from here. We don't have any mutual friends, I don't have anyone from autoshite on my Facebook and I don't have any accounts linked. So what exactly is it tracking and why and how intrusive is this that it can pice all these things together?

I hav'nt bought any obsolete diecast toys for while until today.

Out of leftfield I purchased a corgi silver jubilee state landau from 1977 - you know the one, silver box with horses pulling the coach. Price? £12.

Imagine my disappointment on getting it out of the box and find that one of the horse's legs were broken.

Fucksticks. The glue factory beckons - but only to stick it together.

Used the ex-moog Saab to get to work today (roof down FTW) but the radio forgot its code and I couldn't find it in the spare 5 minutes before work. I had it when u collected the car because I put it in the radio then.

No tunes :-(

Fuel prices are creeping up again.  Never dipped below £1 here, it's now £1.05 for Unleaded and £1.11 for diesel.  In protest I have purchased 24 litres of veg oil, saving myself £2.64 on the pump price.
