To be fair the only thing wrong with Facebook is the idiots using it.

The problem with [insert thing/place here] is the people in it. France, Facebook, British Leyland, Lidl... it applies to all these and more.

You couldn't be more right, VA!

Of course Autoshite itself is an honourable exception. I met two more Shiters today who reinforced my point.

:oops:8)

Hope the old girl behaved herself on the way home, and that Roger wasn't too traumatised by the experience?!

Where's the bloody thread, Ed? :D

I left the autoshite FB group a long time ago as it was filling up with morons.

Tempted to leave FB altogether since the latest improvements, but it is handy to keep in touch with people back home. Might try google+ as that looks to be the next stupid craze.

Today's grump is arriving back in the uk after 1700 miles all over france to witness what is supposed to be described as driving. First up on the way out of london to the M3 some idiot on a scooter overtaking on the hard shoulder then got the hump with me as I returned to the n/s lane after overtaking the same car on the correct side. Should of taken the twat out really I am sure with a couple of tons of discovery and trailer I wouldn't of noticed. Then on the A 303 some muppet A framing a ford maverick type thing with a mk4 astra. He was having trouble keeping it in a straight line at less than 30mph. If that isn't a good enough reason to ban A framing I don't know what is. I know a lot of people on here advocate A framing but in my opinion it really isn't safe unless you have got a decent siezed tow car that can at least get close to being able to cope with the weight, buy a 4x4 and a decent trailer yes it's expensive but mine will sit perfectly at 60 all day long with a couple of ton on the back

Posted

Yeah he should have had that Maverick on a trailer, that would have been much safer than the A-frame!

Posted

Agreed. Added weight would only have aggravated totally inappropriate towing. Unless the A frame ' had a problem' the driver was the issue here.

Posted

Quite. He should have had a tug for being an idiot, regardless of how he was towing it.

Came into work this morning and found out an hour later that the project leader on the project I've been involved with for 2 years, and who gave me lots of opportunity and guidance had a heart attack over the weekend and fell off his perch.

Feeling pretty crap now, although take comfort that he was probably very very drunk on hideously expensive alcohol and smoking a very nice cigar, just as he would have wanted

Electricity/gas utility companies.

My account with Scottish power is slightly in debit, so they are putting my direct debit up by £20 pcm. Why? I have been with them for six months (winter) and my usage drops massively over summer (central heating off). If the DD stays at the same amount it has been for the last six months then by the time winter comes round again I will be in credit, without the increase they are imposing. I'm on a fixed tariff btw, so there is no price increase coming.

Why do they think I should be in credit with them?

They are a supplier, and it's normal to be in debit, it's standard business practice.

They supply goods/services, then I pay them.

They are not a bank and do not give me interest on my money if I am in credit with them so why do they think I need to be in credit with them?

I will likely be switching suppliers (again) .... Time to look for a decent tariff on an old school quarterly bill if such things still exist.

Apologies for the rant.

Just tell them you don't agree to the rise? Presumably they need your consent to start helping themselves to additional dollar from your account.

Hopefully the new smart meters will put an end to all this in debit/in credit estimated meter reading bullshit.

They have been told to put my DD back to the original amount or I will be taking my business elsewhere.

The person I spoke to seemed unable to grasp or do this, so I'm waiting for a callback. I have also emailed them saying the same.

Do not talk with them. Only written communication will do.

Interestingly enough, the cheapest supplier for my type of consumption (medium-to-low electricity, medium-to-high gas) is the slightly pikey company that goes by the name of Spark Energy, whose tariff explicitly states that you're expected to be in credit the whole time. On the upside, the savings from them seem to be considerable (over 10% cheaper than the next cheapest firm). Unfortunately, I can't take advantage of them as my block of flats is held hostage by the IGT scammers who charge suppliers £40 a year for providing a couple of metres' worth of pipe from the pavement to the boiler.

Oh no :(

Not that you can properly appraise it from that one picture, but it doesn't look like a total loss.

I like Aston Martins and I like the sound they make. I don't, however, appreciate being overtaken on my bike by Delamere Forest by Captain Tiny-Cock and his hefty slag of a wife revving the nuts off their lawnmower-exhaust sounding DBWhatever, especially when they were that close to me. I wished I'd realised sooner (I though it was a motorbike) as at least one of them would have had a well chewed Wrigley's Extra in their eye or something.

Never mind, if I do spot old cockwand's car with the roof down one day we'll see how they cope with a piss stained interior.

finally got a date today for the girlfriends op, 21st may. Its frightening knowing in two weeks that I'm going to be taking her in, and waiting for umpteen hours hoping she'll make a full recovery. Whats the chances the company i work for will refuse me the time off, I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Reddit has joined facebook on the list of internet sites to avoid.

Arguing with (most) Americans is fucking impossible - even when you present them with solid facts they still refuse to admit the even might be a little bit wrong and start calling everyone 'beaners', 'terrorists' or 'eurofags'.

I wish China or someone would get a move on overtaking them as the dominant world power.

WTF is a 'beaner'? Got to love insults that have no apparent meaning, makes it hard to give a damn :D

Posted

Oh, beaner is for Mexicans. Probably because they use a lot of beans in their food(?). The people who do all the shitty jobs that Americans don't want to do, so that Americans can complain that they took all the jobs. In the UK, see Polish people.

I had never been on Reddit until recently*. Have found quite a lot of good stuff on there but you have to sift through a fair bit to get to it. The one picture per post thread has seen most of the stuff I found on there (i.e. 3 pics).

I don't want to interact with the people on there though. Ugh! The thought revolts me.

*don't ever go on there and wonder 'What is that /r/gonewild/‎ thing they keep talking about' as its a bit hit and miss on whether you will be able to ever take your computer to PC world for a check up again.

I like Reddit but you have to fine tune it by unsubscribing from the crap and finding subreddits that interest you. Then it's a place full of delightful people and you get a nasty shock if you go there without logging in.

I like /r/ThriftStoreHauls/ for pictures of stuff people have found at carboots, /r/Pareidolia/ for pictures of faces in things, and there's /r/britishproblems and /r/firstworldproblems if you want this thread x1000.
