I also got overpaid when I left my old employer, no names but I've mentioned them enough times on here before.

They paid me a full month, so I had to phone the payroll team and that was the first they'd heard I'd left.

(All my computer logins expired midnight the day I left so it's not like the forms weren't filled in). I deliberately left on the last day of a pay period to make things easy.

They then tried to reclaim 6 weeks instead of four. Just an email, "you now owe us £xxx.xx". Replied asking them to break down how they'd come to that figure. They replied with a payslip scan, and simply highlighted a figure they'd entered manually further up the page as "adjustment" in yellow pen. Hardly conclusive proof.

I asked them to "show their working".

That was 22 months ago and counting. The money is in my savings just in case.

All these emails had to go through my ex boss as they were using him as point of contact and he was forwarding stuff on when he remembered. It's entirely possible he forgot to send something but I'm not losing sleep over it.

They also paid me a decent bonus despite me having left during the period which automatically disqualifies you. Three months later I got a letter from them telling me how to qualify for next year's bonus!

My ex colleague who left not long after me got sent a fuel card nearly a year after she went.

Neighbours have gone away for the weekend. A friend of theirs has gone with them and left their car parked outside and it’s alarm has been going off since 7am. On a Sunday. What utter bastards.

I think every person on the street wants to lynch them, I know I do

Still going off....

And annoyingly I can’t do a bloody thing. Other than wait for the battery to die

Swan Vestas?

I believe if you were to remove the fuel cap then the council has 24hours to move the car as it's unsafe.

FFS. We[REDACTED] not very comfy at all.

I caught the long version. You said plural Whoppers. Is that personally preference to a single Double Whopper? If so that's a lot of salad.

I pick most of the lettuce out. Its taken me a decade of hard work to develop this beer belly - Im not going to risk losing it by eating salad.

Would really like to have some peace and quiet now.

Neighbour called Plod who can’t do anything. Noise abatement unavailable until 9pm, and then what can they do? Knock on the door of an empty house and maybe leave a message saying “please turn your car alarm off”

If it is still going off at bedtime I will have to do something. Dunno what, a massive pile of sound deadening foam and mattresses might be the only option. Or steal the thing and dump it in a river

Day whatever the fuck it is of packing the fucking house.

We have too much shit. However, I do think we’ve definitely broken the back of it and we’re moving in just under 2 weeks.

Still daren’t go in the loft. But most of what’s up there is, at least, in boxes already. Apart from my BBC Micro and second turntable that I don’t need...

I see. They don't "have it your way" there?

I prefer a double, I did try a triple once at Stirling Services (triples aka Huge Combo seemed to be only available at Granada MSAs for motorway travelling fat bastards) and it was too much even for a tubby tucker like me. Besides the roll isn't robust enough to deal with the sheer mass of the beef and collapses.

House hunting continues and while we're building a list of potential properties, it is really, really, depressing.  A lot of the houses we see that we like are Homewise listings which, even if we wanted to get stuck in the lifetime lease scam they're running, we couldn't make use of.  We're not over 60, so we don't qualify.  Finding the properties for sale that are listed as Homewise options is often difficult too, even when you have the estate agent etc. from the listing or the address.  It strikes us as some sort of scheme to take advantage of the over-60s since you end up stuck in a property you never actually own, don't benefit from when you pop your clogs and can't easily move on from as you would if you rented.  Which is effectively what you're doing, it seems.

There really is nothing more annoying than scrolling through pages of potential properties and having to discount a good third of everything because of this ridiculous Homewise thing mixed in.  The properties we're left with are pretty slim pickings, the budget doesn't go very far down south while it would buy a literal mansion up north.  When they are the right property they're often in areas you wouldn't want to live, especially if you want the quiet life.  I'm trying not to stress about it as the potential move date edges ever closer, but I'm not good at not stressing about these things.

Then there's the new builds that aren't even built yet.  I hate those listings.  Every one of them is a computer generated image of a fancy shoebox and none of them are appealing.  I very much understand why other half has said the house we buy has to be right because it should be the forever house.  I do not want to go through this house hunting bullshit again.

Homewise properties are usually listed by Andrews on standard listings.

The reason you’re struggling to find them is because the full price is actually a fair bit more.

Posted

Oh I know.  Most of the ones we're finding are through Ward and Partners.  There was a really cheap* bungalow at £260k that was almost right, but wrong area, and Homewise knocks it down to £172k.  It's just incredibly frustrating to see really good fit properties at sensible prices and then to see that Homewise logo next to them, discounting them immediately.  We've looked for the properties up to £500k (way beyond our actual budget) and still couldn't find a lot of the Homewise listings so fuck knows how much a 2 bed bungalow with a small garden and a single concrete garage in a nice area really is.

That Micra will be a write off if you claim. Probably I'd put it down to experience and try hairdryering the dent out.

???

No, the damage is much worse. The boot floor has been pushed in, crumpled so I may not be able to remove the spare wheel, the boot cannot be opened easily so its not just a 'hair drying the dent out' exercise. The boot floor will need to be jigged out. I've got some contacts for this already.

I am well aware that a vehucle of this age will not be professionally repaired via insurance. I've already told Mum to just get what she can from the insurance and not to take the first offer they give. This Micra will be repaired, properly.

Hopefully Ma Sterling will be okay.  Good on her for wanting to get back on the horse, as it were, by grabbing another Micra.

Can I ask why the sentimental attachment to an old Micra?

Surely a disposable car if every there was one.

You can disable these by putting this filter on. Likewise you can remove brand new off too.

Then...

You can do similar on the website directly too. I imagine the iPhone version of the Rightmove app should be able to do the same.

Bloody annoying that they mess up the listings with that spam.

Can't say they do anything for me but I reckon their falling into 'shit I don't remember the last time I saw a good one not dented on every panel, original wheel trims, 1 lady owner from New etc' territory

If mending it makes you happy then fair enough but you are talking some major expense if it wants a boot floor welding in and jigging.

Unless you've got whiplash wouldn't claim either, increase in premiums over next 5 years won't match the probable £4-500 payout you'll likely get. Then you've got to buy it back salavage which will be another £80 deducted minimum.

Disco 300 TDi has developed a wiring fault that blows fuses in the stop solenoid circuit, pretty much the only electrical thing that can disable a 300 TDi.

Arse biscuits.

Temporary direct 12 v feed added for now, which means I have to stall the engine to kill it then pop the bonnet & unhook the wire.

I'll probably wire in a switched wire from the ignition rather than try to untangle the original wiring (which was already bodged by the previous owner).

She likes the car, it's served her well, she can be sentimentally attached to it if she wants. "Disposable car" is basically an opinion, not a fact.

Well, frankly it's up to her to do what she wants. I am very well aware of insurance companies and thier attitudes towards older cars, I've had experience, she isn't claiming on her insurance, a fact I have stated a couple of times already. I wasn't looking for opinions on what should be done or claimed or not. The simple fact is; she has had this car for years, she loves it and is rather attached to it, she's had a crash which wasn't her fault and the car will be repaired whether it costs over or under its value. It's not as we're chucking several thousand at a £500 car, but even then, it's no one elses business if we did.

That's weird. My screenshots are on the Rightmove app. This is what I get when I go directly to their website, not signed in either (I was signed in on the app)

Oh maybe it's because I'm not signed in? I avoid setting up new accounts wherever possible so I bet it's an extra feature for people with accounts rather than people browsing like I am.

I'll repeat my earlier comment of the wire down the side of the head burning out, could have just burnt the insulation off & started to short out.

I get it later (after initial search) under "filters" (Google Chrome - well almost, Chromium Version 63.0.3239.108 (openSUSE Build) (64-bit))

You could always wire that permanently via a hidden switch, free immobiliser.

I saw those listings when we were looking to move house, too. With estate agent shite hawks it's bad enough renting so I can't imagine how stressful buying must be.
