The grumpy thread

The bastard dumping cars round my town has replaced that Seicento that had the windows put through, with the windows boarded up, and 'CHUCKY'S BACK' painted on them, and 'MOT' daubed on the windscreen (yeah 'cause it'll pass an MOT like that).

Seems awfully pikey, and makes me all the more confident the bugger is contravening planning laws.  Hope the council get back to me soon.

Push it into the road so it's causing an obstruction? Somebody will torch it soon...

Might have to.

That, and the five others.

Get the fuel cap off & report it, the council will take it within 24hrs as it's in a dangerous state.

At a funeral today of a friend - just 45.

Her husband now is left to bring up a 15 year old and a 10 year old.

Life is short and really not worth getting stressed about.

So, I've had a certain (mega early) ZX in my watch list for about 8-9 months, it's always been the wrong time to go and view/buy, but now with an impending house move meaning basically £500 extra a month spare, I thought I'd arrange to see it and hopefully agree a purchase.

Seller takes a few messages to reply. Can't do the date I suggest. I suggest another date, thinking it'd be easy.

Seller has now replied saying he wants to keep car himself.

AGHHHHH.

Seriously though, if anyone sees any ZX Aura Diesels for sale ever, be it on eBay/gumtree/auto trader/local ads whatever, please let me know. I HAVE TO GET ONE OR I'LL EXPLODE

Fucking Cactus, I got a puncture. The space saver is 400 inches smaller than the alloys, so my car just veers right, which means it's now setup perfectly for Nascar... If i go around the wrong way.

The fancy orange panda that my mum uses has had a FTP today.

The spring cups on the rear axle have rotten through on one side, broken the spring and collapsed the suspension.  She's on holiday with the car in fecking Cleethorpes and the car has been recovered to a garage there.  She's been quoted £1,000 to fix it!  axles are £100 on ebay and a couple of new springs should be about £50 quid though the labour might add up a bit.  As technically it's still my car I have to either source and deliver replacement parts to garage, have car recovered to me (her breakdown gets her home, not the car!), scrap car in Cleethorpes (book price is between 500-1000) which is least favourite option.

She thought the knocking noise was a bottle of wine in the boot.

Oh and she can only afford £300 worth of repairs.

Been looking at trading my 4x4 panda in for a 2wd panda she could manage and I could "borrow" for longer trips, though as she's had attempted theft of cinquecento (which was written  off), smashed rear window of tango panda due to dodgy area and on street parking (she could park it around the corner off the road but won't) I'm not sure getting her a better car again at my expense is a good idea.

I'll ring the Cleethorpes garage tomorrow and get a better idea of what it actually needs, they used to be able to weld up spring cups or is that another repair nobody wants to do anymore?

So sorry to hear that. Thoughts with the family.

I was going to, but for the spec i wanted it would have been too expensive. Plus the shade of yellow it comes with is awful.

I have some crap skin on my leg which some cream has been treating.

Last night I had an allergic reaction to said cream. Some, erm, parts nearby have swelled and are burning as a a result. Like bastards.

Walk in centre was fairly useless but it's painful to walk because of 'stretchage'. Mainlining strong paracetamol and anthistemines [sic] at the moment. Rang my dermatologist mate in agony and she suggested greek yoghurt and / or aloe vera.

I am at work listening to vapour wave to distract me from THE UNPLEASANTNESS.

Can she not just join a breakdown recovery service and suddenly realise it's knackered on the last day of the holiday?

Fuck me, £112 for new tyre.

Because it's a lease i cant put a Kumwokho tyre on as it'll probably come back to get me when I return the car.

Halfords wet and dry paper.

I have never used abrasive paper that has shed it's abrasive media like this - I am going to make envelopes out of the backing paper.

One of those days today. Have a cold and can't breath well and didn't sleep so up at 5am. Frosty outside. Leave at 6.30 and get to work in 15 mins to find I've forgotten the keys. Bum hats- I'd checked my pockets and felt the oblong key ring but it turned out this was the one to my parent's house. Drove home and back to work with keys this time. Thought well, I'll still be able to leave early as it was 7.15. But no, damned customers wanting our miracle instant service without notice day. So 11 hours at work with sore throat and a headache. Then stuck in traffic for ages on the way home.

And the frost appears to have got to my early rhubarb. Grump, grump.

I was driving down the dual carrigeway this morning and a deer ran out from the central reservation it was spooked by a lorry travelling in the other directon and in a panic it charged out in front of me....

The damage is mostly confined to the top of the drivers side wing, but it has also damaged / bent the suspension which I causing some very unatural camber, but having had a quick look I've not immediately been able to spot the cause.

Oh hell. Can the bodywork be repaired?

You would think, would you not, that it should be an act of sublime simplicity for a national car spares chain* to order and supply the correct brake light switch, especially since they had both the car's registration and sight of the original component.

Clearly not.

Let's see what they turn up tomorrow...

* Neither of the usual suspects!

I've had an offer of a donor section so hopefully that will mean it won't take too long to fix.

My Allegro is being collected by its new owner tomorrow. Just taken the sheets off it in the garage and shed a tear. I've owned it since 2008 and spent thousands restoring it. Long hours at work and family commitments mean I never get to play with it and even if it was MOTd and on the road I'd never get to drive it. The lack of time I get to play with old cars has really got me down over the years so I've thrown in the towel and sold the lot. Apart from an EX BT ldv Pilot I'll be shiteless. Of course I have no time to work on the pilot so that will probably get cubed in 12 months or so.

Mrs Lankytim doesn't work as we have young Lanklets and has also gone back to Uni to follow her dream of counselling, she becomes fully qualified this year. The job of funding everything falls on my shoulders so I'm always at work. Initially I was told that she'd be able to get a 30k or 40k a year job but she now only wants to work a couple of days a week so this has been downgraded to £100 or so a week. I was planning on cutting down my hours so I could enjoy my hobbies of shite and hopefully go to Uni myself to qualify in something useful but those plans have been postponed indefinitely.

Kinda annoyed about the whole thing but there we go. I work and everyone else "follows their dreams"

Yeah, feel for you Tim. Your scenario sounds all to familiar.

Except this time. Screw it, I've dropped out for a while and I'm retraining for a new and completely different career path. Screw it, it's upset so many and I've never been so mentally scarred by the backlash but I'm seeing it through.

Also Shiteless too, hence my total lack of posts of recent times. You all wouldn't want to hear about a fairly shambolic but cheap Alfa 147 diesel.

You have my sympathies Jon.  I've been fighting shit like this for 40 years.  There doesn't seem to be such a thing as an easy answer, or even an answer at all, sadly.  Not a lot of help, sorry.

Tangoed mk3 panda is getting a back axle from a 500 - they're the same item apart from a slightly different offset - which shouldn't bother the panda on skinny steel wheels.  Picking it up from wakefield tomorrow and driving it to cleethorpes garage, collecting mum and back home again.  Could do without that the day before collecting the Y10 - I shall rope her into dog sitting duties though so I don't have an hours walk to get the train on Saturday.

Oh and I took out the money to pay for the part and the Y10 cashback and think I'm skint, had an automated call from the bank which was ignored, let's see how many DD's get bounced then....
