Update for my fleet is that the Focus was replaced earlier this year with a Kangoo. OK, maybe not shite at the moment but mark my words, give it 10 years or so...

One of the first jobs was to attack it with the lowering stick...

post-5223-0-18613700-1414620583_thumb.jpg

...well, more like lowering logs TBH.

post-5223-0-51099900-1414620632_thumb.jpg

As a 'just a car' vehicle it is ideal, plenty of room for the bikes and dog, cheap on fuel and hopefully skipped some of the Renault electrical faults by getting the absolute base model with wind-up windows, manual mirrors and the like. Time will tell whether I will regret getting a modern common rail diesel, but for now it's not put a foot wrong in 5k miles.

BUMP 4 A REAL FRED.

I thought it would be good to rebump this and get a update on what shite people around here own at the moment.

My fleet still consists of the Mk3 which doesn't get as much use as it really should.

6085d7ebd71fcec1e96b5cdb2df8e466.jpg

The Starlet is still here althought it should be coming up for sale next week hopefully.

b09d3e2eabf2b42f9cb49df0a80da11a.jpg

Because fingers crossed my Sierra should be MOTed and FINISHED at last this week just as long as the new fuel pump fixes it's cutting out problem. It will have a set of Cossie Lattace alloys fitted once I get it home.

9aac0f90f05e8d823549e8c61c4d0da0.jpg

The Dolomite is a ongoing project, again it should be coming home in the next week so that I can crack on with the body work.

f7a73e1336872e64e317871e4406f487.jpg

And lastly is my new daily which is very unAutoshite but it's the nicest car I've ever owned.

Another bump...

I've bought and sold a fair few motors this year, but the miniMetro remains a constant. Owned for seven years now and gives me hardly any trouble at all, but I do need to use it more. Here with Angrydicky's Maestro.

post-5013-0-54467300-1442446213_thumb.jpg

The Cavalier. A bit shonky in places, and will need work for the MoT in October, but I like it so is likely to stay for a while.

post-5013-0-23291600-1442446372_thumb.jpg

The ex-Essexman Granada. This will be heading off to pastures new with another shiteist soon, so I need to get some use out of it in the meantime. It's a lovely thing to waft about in.

post-5013-0-83137100-1442447164_thumb.jpg

Next up is probably a series 2 XJ6. I just need the seller to send me some detailed pics of the problem areas, and arrange a time to go up and view it. I've been agonising over this one a bit, in terms of can I afford it and where do I put it. But I've decided if it doesn't fit in the garage then fuck it, I'll just park it on the road or a residents bay when available and hope it's OK. Life's too short to worry about such things.

The only thing that would pirise this out of my hands would be a V70 T5.

It was a bit dusty when I took this.

The modern daily

In my defense, it does have a fiat diesel and will probably grenade itself spectacularly as a consequence!

The current, almost shite, transport of Mrs_LabRat

The photo makes it look almost nice there... It's the pointless 2.4 30v v6 in full middle management SE spec.

Former shite includes such luminaries as the volvo 940, various Saabs, Fiat Uno (the cunningly named Start special edition), Austin Metro, Ford Puma and Alfa 156...

Currently lack of storage prevents more cars, hopefully soon to rectified with something truly horrible.

I own these two at the moment:

My daily driver

dscn3749.jpg

It´s a 1989 Mitsubishi Pajero V6 3000 which I bought cheap in spring 2014. After some repairs (clutch, welding, brakes, radiator, new wings [with not the right colour] etc.) it was pressed into service in march this year. It has done 5000km since then and it never let me down. I have to say I did not expect that from the beginning, but it has proved to be an absolute reliable, troublefree car. I do not use it daily though, as I work from home. It runs really fine and has a lot of torque. So it´s very relaxing to drive. It´s well-equipped too as it is the "Deluxe"-model. It´s got cruise control, a 4-speed-intermittent wiper, air-condition and electric windows.

My weekend-Queen

dsc_3603.jpg

That´s my 1987 Mitsubishi Pajero 2,5 TD Wagon in immaculate original condition. Never been welded, never been repainted and it has absolutely no rust! Could not belive it either.  It spend most of it´s life with an old man who bought it new and cared for it better then for himself it seems. I bought it in february 2013 with 112.000km on the clock. After some repairs (new cambelt, new brakes, new exhaust) it was absolutely reliable. But I drive it only occasionally from april to october when the weather is good. So no winter and no harsh weather for this beauty.

That´s all I own at the moment. But for the longer drives to Vienna to visit the in-laws or to Tirol for a skiing-holiday, my wife owns a british car.   A 2010 Honda CR-V. Which has to do all the not-so-nice-drives my Pajeros are to precious for.   8)

I posted a picture of Trig's Cortina on Facebook once and my private mail box nearly went viral with people asking me if it was mine. I wish it bloody was!

Anyhow, here's my current fleet:

This one has currently rusted itself into the naughty corner of my garage and is (read 'will be' used as spares for my other one...

306 yo.jpg

The spares being destined for this...

peugeot 306 diesela.jpg

...which now sports snazzy* alloy wheels and almost comically bad front fogs and spots.

This is my daughter's genuine 40,000 mile Punto. A bargain Facebook find with an incredible MOT history thing on VOSA which outlined all the work it's had done. It's not really getting used at the minute and the MOT is up soon...

fiat punto ....jpg

I've also got a pretty crap looking Berlingo, but I can't find a picture of that at the minute.

Still own the ex-Wuvvum LNA (acquired from him just over a year ago).

A tad underused at times, but managed a 600 mile round trip from Stirling to Dublin and back in July, to attend the Terenure show.

21492944015_64d0a305f6_c.jpg

It's booked in for an MOT / service next Friday, so I'll also get the new old stock Solex carb fitted and set up (it's been sat, rolling around the footwell since I imported it from France last Autumn), as well as a new fuel pump slung on.

A kind gent at Terenure offered me a set of LNA Inca / Visa GT alloys, so I need to collect and re-paint them, before swapping tyres over.

21466695656_fab0e2dff0_z.jpg

I also acquired this in April - It's an ex company car, bought rather cheaply with 106k on the clock, to which I've added another 4k. It's the two litre diseasel 184bhp model, and I actually really like it. It's fast enough, practical enough, quite fun to hoon around in, and does 45 - 55 mpg.

I agree that the 2.4 is pointless, you couldn't even spec quattro on it, maybe it only existed as the early 2.8s are 12v (later ones are 30v, when they came in the 2.4 went, 2.5TDI sort of replaced it). But everyone just bought the 2.8 because quattro anyway. OK power output (~160bhp) but that's about it. I suppose for a short while it would've been the top-spec non-sporty model, but even so, I just can't understand why it exists. Take off the badges and you might be able to confuse a few people, that's a mild plus.

Posted

To be fair to it, it's lovely and smooth and bloody quiet... Halfway decent on fuel for a v6 too. The main reason we got it over the 1.8T was simply that they'd all been thrashed to death and this is like new.

Never feels quite as perky as my old mondeo v6, despite having more valves and lugging less bodywork around with it!

I remember seeing that 626 for sale maybe 3 years ago on on eBay? It was a 'barn find' and was only a couple of hundred quid, it was not far from me in Derbyshire somewhere.

THE CURRENT FLEET OF DOLOSHITE:

I was going to pick out nice pictures of them all polished up and nice but figured that's not really a true representation of the things and went for shots of them in their natural environment, the mud covered country lanes of rainy Aberdeenshire/Moray.

Well, there is my £850 1976 Dolomite 1850HL (officially named "Trevor" but usually called "Bastard cunt of a fucking thing) which currently looks like this:

20150831_155947.jpg

I've had it for two years and hope to have it back on the road as a daily driver before winter hits. Mostly so I don't have to use this:

MuckyDolly.jpg

My '77 Dolomite 1300 (officially called Daisy but usually called "old girl" usually preceded by "please start" or "no, don't breakdown here"). My first 'classic' car and first car I actually owned outright which I purchased 3ish years ago. I love this thing, despite the fact the engine is knackered and gutless, the rear wheel arches are utterly fucked, the sills are crumbly, the electrics don't work properly, the heater is shit and the fact the headlights are held in place with cardboard and bathroom sealant.

She deserves more love but funds don't allow it...

The latest member of the fleet is a 1978 Dolomite 1500HL:

20150827_174314%20Copy.jpg

I think this is the car that started to suggest I may have a "problem", and that the "problem" might be compulsive hoarding of Triumph Dolomites despite a crippling lack of money and no storage. I intend for this car's engine to find it's way into the 1300 and I'll cut out as much unrusty metal (not much) as possible before it gets weighed in.

Shame really, if I got a Sprint I'd have the whole range of Dolomite engines, and if it was a 1975 or a 1979  they'd be in sequential order...

This is my latest offering. Dont know if this is the right place to show it off like. Ironically I've now got a car which is old enough to be sneered at by the 'new car on lease' brigade (of which there are many around here sadly) but nowhere near old or shitey enough for the majority of people on here I suspect although I have seen a few of these come up on the ebay thread recently.

_57-2-1-1_zpsxmkt2vvp.jpg

It's a model I've always liked though and reckoned I'd have one someday. I've always liked the looks

of the mk1 Octavia and the mk1 VRS is highly regarded on the Skoda forum as a quick, well built and reliable car. I like the fact that its a VAG car but without the usual pretentious bollocks you get with the other cars in the group. No 'quality-feel' interior plastics or softly damped glovebox hinges with these!

Its not mega fast, a couple of years after my car was built, we had the likes of the Focus ST and Astra VXR etc with 250 ish bhp, but hey 180 bhp and a turbo is still enough for me to have fun with. Compared to my old mk4 Golf and the wife's old Octavia (both 1.6 pez models), it's an absolute hoot, handling wise, as well. Nice and firm without being modern Audi S-line harsh, with a nice meaty feel to the steering. 40 mpg average as well, which is shit-hot, being used to an old six cylinder Merc 190 previously.

Not quite. The red one below was the £200 one, and here's the thread: http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/156061/mazda-626s

It was ebayed a few days later for proper money. Don't know where it is now.

p4pb10036232.jpg

The blue one is "Wilfred's Mazda" and is indeed a barn heated garage find. It spent 23 year in hibernation before the elderly owner, Wilfred, eventually passed on. Yeah, yeah, I'll do a thread soon. I've got the V888 back now and will write to Wilfred's family and try and get some old pics.
