Fiesta Mk6 ABS module Faulty*** Rant.

A common issue on the Mk6 Ford Fiesta is that the ABS module eventually gives up the ghost. This particular module is attached to a 2006 14,000mile car. finding a used replacement is easy at around £30 ish, the problem is that you can't just fit it it needs to be coded to the car. this is why Ford charge upwards of £800 to replace one. Of course in you have IDS software plus a licence purchased from Ford it's Diy but £120 for a 2 day licence.  Now I could send the module away to be repaired  around £250.    Anyone done this job before ?  Just trying to decide whether it's worth the effort..?

It's bloody annoying to have a unit that is easily a diy swap to have to be charged loads of money just because it has to be coded. Of course it's a money maker?

Change it in the car park of your local dealer then get one of the monkeys to come out on his lunch break and code it in. Worth a try

cracked licence key? Just sayin' but thats daft money on a 2006 car. Does it have to be the genuine software? Hasn't someone managed to make a knock-off version like vag-com lite or op-com or whatever?

if you google 'cracked IDS software' as I have just done, it comes up with dozens of well shady looking websites.

just thinking that , it cant be that hard to do if a main stealer can do it ?

makes me think about what happens on the assembly line , some body running around with a laptop and a OBD lead

must a app, or a  bit of fudge it software that can bodge it ?

I'll have a look at pirate software, the other problem is it's not compatible with my mac laptop.  As you say maybe someone out there.

Would be cheaper to buy another fiesta with working abs, swap bits over and scrap the remains...

Does it actually need coding if you get one from the same/similar engine size and year? Did that with my Laguna II V6 and worked fine. That was one with traction control too.

Yes it needs coding to with the Vin number and I think the ECU.

I don’t think £250 is horrendously out of the way to fix it, bit of a twat it being coded but that’s they way sadly.

Have to agree with not using bba. Ecu testing seem pretty good tho . 
what’s the actual fault showing with the old unit ?

I changed the ABS module on Mrs Nutz' 54-plate fiesta for a secondhand one without any coding-in bollocks, just worked straight out the jiffy bag

Yes, I've read good reviews of ECU testing.   My code reader said.... not communicating with ABS module""

Interesting!!  All the info I've read says they need to be coded!!  I suppose for £20 it may be worth a try.

It might be worth just trying a pump out off a Fiesta from the same year and spec and if it doesn’t work then worry about getting coded at a later date.

My Abs pump went on the Bini  R50 and I bought the cheapest secondhand one I could find for a tenner on eBay and got people on the forums saying it needs coding and will never work so it’s a trip to a BMW main dealer and other’s telling me as long as you’ve got one off the same year motor and fitted it things would be okay.

Even the part numbers were different on it  but I made sure it came off a car without ASC  as there’s a difference apparently and mine didn’t have that but it worked no problem.

Yes and when asking the dealer trained technician to risk his job, don't forget to call him a monkey ?

Forscan is a free downloadable programme, completely legit, extremely good  and I'd be surprised if it couldn't code this....I don't actually think it will need coding mind !

Resurrection of a thread.

Have a fiesta with a suspected failed pump, it blows the fuse instantly when it self checks - was yours the same?

He hasn't visited in a year, but I'd suspect the pump motor itself is fucked from thst description.

I see conflicting advice on abs replacement. Some say it's coded to the immobiliser system. Others say they plugged a scrapyard unit in and worked fine!
