UltimateJames Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 OUCH !! bet that was a scary ride, Glad to hear the mrs is ok mate.
nigel bickle Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Sad-still looked a strong old bus (and the Traveller looked Ok too!)Glad she walked away Ok.Feds giving you grief? Any idea what caused the rear to step out?
mnde Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Oh Wobbler... That's really sad. I'm glad your wife wasn't hurt as it looks nasty, and undoubtedly a horrid experience. After seeing that I'm wary about owning old rwd chod, because I'm so used to "predictable" fwd understeer. I'm trying to think actually whether I've ever driven a RWD car any distance... Oh yeah, actually a Hillman Super Minx and come to think of it a Lada Riva. Oh and a Lotus Exige on a Silverstone driving experience, but that's a little different! Mark.

FredTransit Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 HOLY SHIT! Glad the Mrs was OK, but it looked like the moggy kept her safe. Very sad, and it doesn't look like it's savable either.
Mr Lobster Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Actually, shame (in a way) that it's a Traveller not a saloon. If it was then you could perhaps have 'saved' the scrappage victim Minor thats in CCW
michiel Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Ooh shit, glad there aren't any personal injuries. *must always remember Florian is rwd*
Mash Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 What a shame so soon after taking custody. Glad to hear the missus was OK, car looks to have stood up well to the impact too.The cynic in me says it's a blessing it was not a more rare vehicle....
AXrescuer Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Thanks folks (lol@Pog even though I shouldn't!)Yes, we were 'looking after' the car but it is in my wife's name and it's on my insurance policy. I've just taken a new policy out with a new company. I fear I might get my money's worth as the premium (including Bond and 2CV) was £159...Time to test them!Sheila's Wheels?Glad the missis is ok!
Minimad5 Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Damn Glad the Mrs is all okay Shame about the moggy thoSure you can salvage bits such as the engine and fix up another shitter moggie ?Glad no one got hurt !
j-j Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Jeez Ian, glad she's fine - shame for the old morris though. RWD is the way.-to end up on your roof
Timewaster Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 *Sucks air through teeth like a plumber giving a quote*Nasty! Many a life lost in those fenland dykes!Looks like she hit the toughest bit of the car at the bottom of the B post. The old thing held together well though.Shame as it looked a nice old mog. Hopefully there are plenty of decent parts to keep a few more going although I doubt that one will get fixed.Have you spoken to the owner yet? Are you expecting sympathy or fireworks! Lol.
Justin Case Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Glad to to see your Mrs is ok, but it must have been a nasty shock for her. I was surprised how well the car stood up to it, wood must be pretty strong to take a bang like that without disintegrating
Rusty Pelican Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Dam shame but no permanant damage to you wife which is good , poor moggy though , does the owner know whats happened yet , hope hes not too upset.
outlaw118 Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Just for you mate; sums it all up... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPwASebgPPw This is very rude however....
scrappylad Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Awful shame... still it put up a good fight to look after your missus.I don't normally condone such things, but as the car is clearly a total loss, perhaps it would be prudent to retain the number plate & put it on retention for when your friend returns from their travels.
Torsten2001 Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 rotten news, terrible news, please pass my best to yer missus
trigger Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 rotten news, terrible news, please pass my best to yer missusSame here Ian, Sorry to hear about it, but at least she walked out o.k, Car's you can replace, People you can't.
Parky Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Mr Issigonis designs quite strong cars doesnt he? I thought the Moggie survived that pretty well and I am glad your wife is OK. Shame about the car but thats not really important is it compared to the missus. She's OK, cars insured, all is well. You can probably salvage loads of parts off the old Moggie and use them to save another one. Perhaps we should design Vehicle donor cards? "In the event of me being written off I would like to donate my:"WingsEngineRear AxleFluffy Dice(Tick where appropriate)
garethj Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Any crash you walk away from is a good crash Glad Da Boss is ok, that's the main thing
wuvvum Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 They're a strong old bus those Moggies, really. Glad nobody was hurt. I have to say I'm impressed that your good wife managed to get the arse end out on a 948cc Moggy - I've tried and failed to do that on more than one occasion. 1098cc cars are a different story though...
Father Ted Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Indeedy - bum karma on the car, but tis just a big lump of metal and can be twatted back into shape or replaced. People cant easily be replaced, and repair takes more than twattin with a hammer too. have ye told the owner yet?
pompei Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Holy shit, what a lucky escape Glad the mrs is ok, shame about the car, but hey, it's only metal.
Pillock Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Holy shit, what a lucky escape Glad the mrs is ok, shame about the car, but hey, it's only metal....and wood! What they all said really..... shame about the car, looked mint, but it's just a car. The fleshy pink bits inside are the important ones.
dollywobbler Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 Thanks folks. Sorry for the delay - I've been at the 2CV meeting for the best part of the weekend.Owner has been very sweet about it - she's be quite within her rights to be quite seriously miffed. Still not sure why the tail came out. Suspicions are that it might have crossplies on the back and that combined with a lift-off and a lot of camping gear caused the unexpected drifting. Once we're through this difficult weekend, I'm planning for both of us to go on a RWD handling course. I've not got that much experience of RWD myself really and it's knowing what causes a slide that's just as important as how to deal with it.
