Good spot. I should have recognised that as I remember tying ladders to the steel ones by running the rope round the outer brackets with the plastic serrations on.

Chevette was only 2 or 3 years old!

Some cars end up in yards when they a just a few days old, especially if driven by a mindless twonk who is looking at their OS  or A to Z instead of the road.

I thought it was a Chevette too, at first - but after a closer look with PedantVision, I'm going for one of those tiny Japanese kei-vans.

Is that something American above the Honda van on the top of the pile? The rear end certainly looks like a big wafty barge from the  "Ford Timelord" era

This must be the one of the last (admittedly, tiny) scrapyards that is close to the centre of London. Just along from Loughborough Junction station, not far from Oval tube station.

The one that's sideways on to the camera?

Yeah, pretty sure that's a Volvo 144/164 going by the rear slam panel, with a MkIV Cortina and Triumph 2000/2500 providing the rest of the sandwich.

Not the Volvo, the one on top of it that you can see the whole back end of ?

EDIT - I think it’s a Mk3 Cortina,

That looks like a Triumph Herald to me, still with the rubber bumper insert. Look at the door. (I could be wrong, though)

I’m with Mk3 Cortina, look at the door handle.

Yup, fair point. A 2 door? Or is it just the front half on top of something else? Christ, I need a life!

Triangle trim piece to left of window frame/door top suggest 4 door I think.

Mexico, after the government banned two-door taxis due criminals robbing rear seat passengers. This is what finally killed the Beetle

I've heard that before, some truth there.

It's what happened. Without the sales as taxis it was no longer economical to produce them. 1945-2003 is a pretty good production run for a single model though
