Following on from the amazing Irish scrapyard thread, and because no-one else has, I thought I'd start a thread for great scrapyards or interesting old motors awaiting their final trip to the crusher.

 

I'l start with the much-missed Kirby's in Rochford, used to go here just for a mooch around as they used to get all the cars that were abandoned in the Southend area, which is full of old cars for some reason. They were very good at putting interesting stuff up for sale for a while before it went in the yard, and classics were reduced to utterly bare shells before they were crushed;

That's Balby Doncaster it's an absolutely ace yard. Believe it or not the back wings of that hammered A55 mk2 are now on my Oxford Estate (see avatar)

The chap who owns the yard has some right rare old chod a rare Mazda Estate iirc. Think there was a Vauxhall Victor Estate with a Jag V12 and running gear in the yard. I'll see if i can dig some pics up.

They had an MG Magnette in there for years, and also took in the gold Ambassador from Thorpe Bay when the owner had a stroke and couldn't drive anymore. That was for sale for £1000 but I never saw it advertised, and the yard owner told me he had a lot of interesting old stuff squirrelled away, so I suspect it joined his collection.

I also remember Kirbys well. The blue Morris Minor remains were a traveller my dad bought unseen as a project on eBay but it was horrendously rotten so Kirbys came and took it away, after most of the useful stuff was removed from it of course.

It lived in Maplin Way North, on the right as you head towards the seafront. Big house with a double garage and carport, the Ambo lived in the carport. A105 NVX, SMAC supplied car. Was very tidy, 53k, one owner and no rust. I was tempted to buy it when it was for sale in IMR but the black interior put me off!
