That looks like a lot of fun for the price.

I imagine driving what's basically a skateboard powered by a V6 is quite entertaining.

Possibly not with the absolute boat anchor 2.3 Ford V6 that weighs the same as a 2.8 version, which in itself is kind of underpowered in early form

Not a chance that Granada has done 150, 115-120mph with a downhill wind. Possibly. 😂

Its one of the reasons after the last time I went to a Ford Show at Santa Pod I swore I’d never go again, they just seem to attract the type of person that upon seeing one they HAVE to come out with a wildly exaggerated fact or in many cases something that’s pure fantasy. Here is a bit of a guide to being a Ford Walt:

- Be sure if you attend one of these shows to have some sort of PVC jacket with all the Ford Motorsport ephemera on, ideally complement it with a padded hat with RS on it or whatever, if you can sew some badges on so much the better. Bottom half go with some loose Under Armour 3/4 length shorts to hide the inevitable erection when you see a Cosworth of some description.

- Debrief the wife if she accompanies you, no end of Ford Walts are found out at the first hurdle by the wife saying ‘No Paul, I’m sure it was a 1.1L we had’. In any case it’s likely once you return to your flat she’ll be that impressed with your stories about overtaking Jackie Stewart at Croft that she’ll probably have blown you at least four times on the coach back.

- Have your stories ready, the guy with the Mondeo ST200 will be expecting at least a salutary tale about the 1.8LX you had that pasted at ST at the lights last week.

- Don’t be too outlandish with your claims, stick to something plausible like your Dad, being a milkman from Rotherham and having a Grattons round was specially selected by Ford to test drive a one off Mondeo Cosworth, it’d do 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and had 620nm of torque. In fact he’s still got it, it’s coming out one day when the times right and the fanfare has died down. He can’t show it anyone however as he signed an NDA with Ford and if anyone sees it the magic will go away

- Name drop, where appropriate. A pint you had in the Farmers Arms with Richard Parry-Jones when he asked you your thoughts on the control blade suspension or when you winded Henri Kankunen in the pits on the 1998 WRC for questioning your exuberant driving style.

- Steer clear of bandying knowledge with one of the 6,000 one model owners clubs, these people are experts in their field. Crossing swords with them by spouting nonsense will see you outed.

- Make doubly sure when seeing a perfectly preserved 1.3L Capri or a Sierra Emax to pass the comment of what a crying shake that it’s not a Tickford or a Cosworth. The owners will be hoping you don’t point out that they’ve totally wasted their time on preserving a piece of street furniture, other Walt’s around you will be keen to point this out as well.

- Flash the cash, these events are an excellent opportunity to point out your people your independent valuation, be sure to let people know your independent assessment of the value is. People love to hear throwaway comments about how ‘if you’d kept that Mk1 3100 you never had it’d be worth at least £100k’

Genuinely, one of my fave posts on here and so fucking accurate 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭.

As always, beautifully written @sierraman 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve got a photo, somewhere, of the speedo reading 120mph in my Mk5 1.6L Cortina, on the M6 in about 1989. It was bouncing around all over the place and snapped at the right time, but that’s proof surely?😂

Yeah that counts 🤭🤭🤭.

I'll be fair to the cossies they were quite long geared and could pull quite hard all the way up to the redline in most gears and very few in existence are totally standard, I seem to recall it was £150-200 or so from a reputable company to get a stage 1, 270bhp upgrade on the ECU, seemed rude not to for most people. Mine ran about a bar, 17 psi which was over what it came out of the factory with so I'd guess it had a little fettle here and there.

Those V6 Granada's were as @sierraman says, 115/120 at best although the 24v version I think was actually a rapid car but it did have 200bhp or so.

I had a few ford fair trips, quite a few absolute throbbers there but some lovely cars.

I did go to one local rs owners club meeting once, never, ever again, what a waste of a lovely summer's evening 🤭🤭🤭.

It’s quite a weird engine choice given it was only in a handful of mostly cortinas and Granadas . I think it’s about 100bhp and mostly strangled by hopeless slush boxes so would be interesting to see what it was like in a small light manual .

I feel like one knock, like a ball hitting it or a sparrow farting in a nearby tree would have an almost perfect wing made of wob falling out on the road.

Was 20 odd years ago but the 75 demo had cloth seats, wheel trims, better radio and I’m sure it was a 1.8 TD with an intercooler on top

the 55s we were given were vinyl seats, no wheel trims,  basic radio and same 1.8 but non turbo

* this was back in 2001/2002 from memory

I went to Ford Fair at Silverstone, 2022 maybe?

It's pretty much as you and @sierraman described. Lots of mouthbreathers with tropical tint windscreens.

I was there with my Puma and there were maybe 20-30 from the Puma club including Boring John who chewed my ear off about how much he'd paid for tyres.

The whole thing was pretty depressing. The most interesting car (for me) was a fish-face Scorpio so I spoke to the owner but sadly he was a halfwit.

There was a chance to go on the track for £££ but I did think the odds of being driven into by a mullet from Manchester were too high for my liking.

Jeezo. Only 100hp from 2.3 litres? What were Ford smoking?

I retract my previous comment!

I did see a Granada Chasseur (I think) when I went with the luggage still intact. The owner probably went home and chained it to the garage floor, it was full of n’eer do wells presumably looking for something to spirit away on a hi-ab for the next Granada meet.

Looks good, the advert even says it has an MOT until April '26.

Except... it doesn't.
