I worked for a chap who had one of these. He had plenty of dosh and several Ferrari for years. When I asked why he’d now got a Lexus and where the Ferrari was he said he was fed up with the Ferrari always being at the garage for something they never fixed properly, he thought the Porsche dealer was a wanker and this was as much fun and never had an issue. I’m now wishing I had time and room to take a punt on it for the summer. It’s ULEZ and tax isn’t too eye watering for what might be cheap motoring

'lovely place to be'

Mate, it's a fucking 1998 Ford Escort.  Sitting in Tiananmen Square a year later wearing a T-shirt with a photo of Li Peng's missus in the knack and handing out anti-communism leaflets was a better place to be.

How miserable do you have to be, to only do 36k in something so exquisite as that in 29 years.

I'd be finding an excuse to go and waft.

I'm sure a manual 3.0 omega would be orrible in comparison.

Even if you prefer manuals, it's worth trying a 3.0 auto Omega. They don't half shift along and are a lovely car to drive.

Even though the back seems to be made of the thinnest shit chequer plate and bits of discarded garden decking, it'll still be the slowest thing on earth and require 4 people 8 hours to change gear.

I already have the Senator with an auto so I think this more agile Omega would do well with the extra mpgs and better pace of a manual.

Another 'big money' MK4. Messing with my head this one though, as looks like it's the basic (i.e not even an 'L') 1.3 but surely the  BVR and the black panel aren't standard and it's got the wrong wheels?

Those shiny SA imports always look like a multitude of sins have been quickly blown over. I'd love to take a grinder to the edges to see how much structural plod is hiding beneath.

Fabric seats were optional on the base model but standard on the L. The rubber bumper inserts and pinstripes are L only, vinyl roof and sports wheels were also optional when new.  The black back panel though is clearly wrong.
I agree it seems expensive for a poverty spec that has not enough doors and needs work.

@Dick Longbridge what makes you think it is a South African car? Their cars were slightly different spec than ours and often with bigger engines. I have not seen anything 2 door from South Africa before, except their pick ups but they had bigger engines. I could be wrong but this looks UK spec. The speedo is in mph too, SA use kph.

Good to hear, and I reckon if you can find a one owner car - very likely to be well looked after - New Lexus owners aren't the sort of people to 'run out of money'.

Just a few "minor" things needed for MoT,

"Needs hanbrake fixing for mot, rear wiper.not working, gearstick wants adjusting, no front number plate. passenger mirror glass , Interior wants deep clean. No questions about service history or any other time wasting questions thanks"

Fair point. I saw the unusual plates (since spotted they're Irish plates!) and the bubbles showing under the shiny blowover and automatically assumed SA snotter.
