Apparently 160,000 is low miles these days?

Although anyone who can’t grasp the concept of standing further back to get more of the car in the picture, probably struggles with many other concepts too.

On the plus side it’s got a black engine cover so Euro 3 and less likely to go expensively wrong, and a manual gearbox for mingebag mpg

160k is pretty low for a D5 - they'll do over 300k easily, especially if looked after. Altho that one looks very similar to ours and we didn't pay even a grand for it, never mind 2. On the other hand, probably worth it because they are just so we'll engineered.

These were omnipresent at one time, hardly see them now.

MOT fail but looks cheap enough to fix. Fail sheet is in one of the advert pics. Believe these can also run veg.

Those alloys weren't fitted to the E39 post-2000, so what happened to the 2002 originals?

I’m on a few Facebook groups for these and I had no idea there were so many wheels available across 9 years production.  I’d be amazed if any of them had kept their originals 20 years later.

A German colleague was telling me about his new Mercedes A Class Limousine recently. It seems to be the German for Saloon.

It is, any 4-door is a Limousine.

Early MINI with the Toyota diesel looks useful but I’m staggered by the sheer number of things that go wrong with MINIs generally

Popular car, designed by Engineers at Longbridge, but just at the end of the project, the big bosses in Germany decide to make it in Oxford?

No worse than any other "BLMC"  product designed since 1958.

I mean the gearbox issues the petrol version had was a nod back to the Metro Turbo, the power steering issues were probably related to the fact that the electric power steering was a Lucy's Car braking Spin off.  Head linings. That seems to be a rover thing. Electrics and BCM, well yes. Shit occasionally.

Nothing particularly high tech though. Just painful to fix.

Wasn't the Trabant Saloon also called the Limousine?

Yeah, 2 door sedans are the same, it's the direct translation for sedan/saloon.
