Stupid me did not see that large emblem on the steering wheel. Must drive 60 miles to get my eyesight tested! ?

And the 4 doors.

I've just contacted a Ford expert, but I'm calling bullshit for now.

PS Advert says A TOTAL ORGINAL FORD ESCORT ESCORT - NO EXTRA FITTINGS JUST ORGINAL CAR.

O RLY? RS Turbo vented bonnet anyone?

Got to be bollocks of the highest order. If I was asked what the first diesel cabriolet was, I’d guess the A4 or e46 and I remember what a fuss all the road tests made then of a diesel convertible.  Even if Ford did put a nasty 1.6 or 1.8 derv in the cab. and I don’t for 1 minute believe they did, they would not have called it an XR3i.

The bonnet, missing boot hinge covers and broken kick panel trim point to a bitsa thrown together. The fact it comes up as model: Diesel, nothing else and that it’s first MOT , certainly since 2006, was last year points to it being in storage for a long time.

More worryingly , the missing vin plates point to something dodgier than an old Post Office van engine thrown in a cabriolet shell that was lying around then making up some bullshit about Germany.

I think this is about as Autoshite as an E36 gets. It actually looks pretty decent for the money, which I appreciate is probably down to the limited market for a gold four-pot on trims...

Crumbs, that is nice. And it isn't an auto! £1500 sounds a lot at first but consider the mileage and relevant service history and it soon comes across as reasonable.

Must divert my attention to my own 318 though.

Listing says Norfolk (and very little else) but that doesn’t look like Norfolk to me. Still would though.

Registration is from  the Madrid area.

This one seems a better priced example.

This one bidding has finished but similar priced and good condition to the first advert.

That particular body shape is probably the best looking 323 for me. I'd feel better about it if it wasn't on Bumtree.

Surely then you wouldn't know about it at all, in which case I dont think you can reliably say whether you would feel 'better' about it as there would be no comparative element to your attitude towards it

Just sayin'

Quoting the exact reason.why the DVLA should probably be informed

The conversion I believe was one of the first VTEC Metro conversions done. It was done roughly 15/16 years ago and has been through a few owners since. Originally built as a track car it has many battle scars.

Do we think it was ever used on the road whilst the incorrect Tax was being paid and insurance wasn't valid ?

DVLA says 1.1 litre...erm...

Doesn't matter much - a K-series that's been wound up to 275bhp isn't going to last long enough to get into any trouble anyway.

Completely agree on both counts.

I quite fancy an early mk3 1.6 Ghia; there’s a crispness to the styling that I really like.  I suspect I’d be a bit disappointed with the experience though.

99% of the cars on that channel are probably incriminating themselves in the videos anyway, i'm just waiting for the day where one of them takes a corner too hard trying to show off his car to the channel and stuffs it into a bunch of school kids crossing a road.
