Lots of 'upgrades' but nothing much about the engine. After the BMC merger these got the Austin A-Series in 803cc form and were still painfully slow.

It was not until 1956 that the bigger engine arrived. Lots of cars are retro-fitted as the original engines wore out.

stripped it back to bare metal as had layer upon layer of bad paint on it, then had it painted in the modern Nissan grey

Why?  It just looks like primer then lacquer.

I'd say it would not make an excellent first classic . There are a number of issues with these that are not for beginners - probably put anyone off as a first car. One for the more seasoned enthusiast IMHO.

Odd one that. They were exported - so maybe a bad day at the DVLA when allocating a plate.

Left hand drive. First registered in 1968, so that was probably when it came back to the UK. At that time cars just got the current registration letter when imported irrespective of age.

It's times like this when I hate the fact that I never have £10k just lying around doing nothing.

Same, but there was that Merc camper for sale on here that is more or less what this is/does? And it was a lot more affordable...

Or is it the Talbot cache that does it for you (badge wanker)?

I'm a sucker for that shit carpet.

Back in 2009 my friend had to - err - leave the country in a hurry.  Having spent 48 hours trying to sell his 307d Autotrail for £5k (having bought it a month earlier for £7k from a dealer) he took every last penny I had (£1,000 in savings) and let me have it. It was much the same as this inside but larger and I fucking loved it.

However, it was pushing 20ft long with its adornments on the rear - and we only had street parking.  With a heavy heart, I flipped it that weekend for a decent whack and have felt sad pretty much ever since.

I think they're bloody ace, and I would love one.  But until I become a millionaire and can put up a barn for such vehicles it's pointless.

These were everywhere when I were a lad. I always associate them with the strange chip shop pie tin wheels most of them had.

overdrive, freewheel hubs and parabolic springs though

Those alone are probably worth a fair chunk of the asking price!
