I had a 1.8 Avant, on LPG, and it wasn't that bad.

As long as you weren't in a hurry, it wasn't a problem. This was the era when Audi stuck some real poverty engines in as entry models.

I had one for a while, didn't do a lot with it other than fit a new hood (which even though I'm ham-fisted looked better than that one) and I got a better pair of seats for mine from a bloke who had a one-off estate version.
