Roffle Cancelled - Car Sold

Stupidly i bought this on a whim and ill be honest, I paid £800 for it. Thinking this was a bargain, i have ended up replacing the turbo and thermostat and then realised that considering i drive up to 200 miles on a weekend for a passtime i wont share (its quite trainspotter-esque) maybe a turbo estate is the worst type of car to have on the drive.

It doesnt look like it goes like the clappers but my god - it shifts. 17psi will spin the tyres up in second. Its the car that i wish i had about ten years ago.

Anyway. the difficult bit. I bought it off a 'good mate' on the cheap (he paid £1200 for it about three months before me) and as such i feel like a total bellend trying to make any profit on it off gumtree or facebook. And can you actually IMAGINE the dross this thing will dredge up.

So.

10 months MOT
85k ish
1.8t 20vt AUQ K03s from a mk1 Leon Cupra.
Small front mount
Registered as a 1.6.
Coilovers
GTI brakes
GTI bumper
GTI interior

The good bits:

It shifts, but it also just bimbles along really nicely off boost. No rattles or creaks or groans, and its generally in good condition. I just had to put the turbo on it off the Lupo so im now also turbo less on that and need to get it finished. Just had a thermostat yesterday. New air filter for teh boost y0. Scans clear on Vagcom.

The bad bits:

The front door locks are a bit 'loose' in the handles. It has a bodged side exit exhaust. Drivers wing is a slightly different shade of silver. Battery is a bit crap so turns over a bit slowly. Someone has installed uprated clocks on it and as such they show 160k. MOT history shows its more around the 85k mark.

Put a tartan blanket on the back seats, maybe a roof rack, and go and upset people round your way.

Will meet at train stations and airports etc. Car is located at G84 Helensburgh.

Hah!  The bodywork is so much better than my 130HP MKIV diesel estate...

Gah.  Can't.  Couldn't deal with the MPGs but I like this a lot.

Its done 29 over five gallon without a thermostat.

With the thermostat actually allowing it to get to temp, driven properly it should see 34-36.

Its the driven properly thing i have an issue with

Me too.  Even the 130 is enough to surprise people.  220 would be addictive and I'd probably manage about 25 out of it on my way to work...

Whom do you insure this through/how hard does that hit you in the wallet?

I insured it though Adrian Flux (most of my stuff is) and just said it had a larger engine capacity at 1.8. With 13 years no claims / 34 year old and super handsome i think it was about £240. The only other mods i delcared was the coils. They werent that fussed.

Course you could just insure it as a 1.6 and plead ignorance, but thats not my problem.

That's the company I insure my Corsa through.

I have 18 years ncb and I'm 39 so the above is a decent reference point.

It also appears cheaper than all of my other cars to insure, weirdly enough.

Would love this but I'm about 400 miles away, now looking at trains.

Closest is Helensburgh Central. If it’s easier I could be at Glasgow Central / Queen street. It’s only a 45 min ride back home for me.

All about this, unfortunately I'm cash-poor... BUT I do have a mk3 GTI with bumpy cam and stainless exhaust which got a new clutch and NSF bearing along with crank oil seal earlier this month. I'm averaging about 35mpg due to a heavy right foot and lots of good roads around here, but it easily does 45mpg when sat at 60 (got it up to 48 doing the 160 mile round trip from home to Edinburgh and back). Would do a straight swap, and even drive it up to you.

If that doesn't tickle your pickle, two randoms please.

#47 please.

Looks really nice by the way. God knows how I would insure it if I did win.

Cross that bridge though........

I would have to get a 1.6 badge for the boot though.

Fuck me, if that swaps for my old Golf I'll be sick, it's right up my street!

I'm going to break my roffle ban as I love a sleeper.

Plus those placca wheel trims the lower spec ones came with.

Everything you could ever want from a modern car. Gr9 engines if you like silly turbo boost.

None for me today though, perhaps tomorrow

I'll be in for a random, if I win the first thing I'll order is an sdi badge.

Absolutely love a sleeper like this, especially with essentially zero external visual references to any changes.

That said, is that running lower than standard?

Very tempted to take a ticket. Maybe when I'm feeling less sensible. (give it an hour or two)

This is about an hour away right? 1 Random please
