An estate [Bought an estate, in a state] SOLD IT

Or a hatch with a decent dog carrying sized boot

A couple of examples that I was too slow on but would have fit the bill:

Basically after something like a Passat, A4, Insignia etc. Diesel preferred. Not worried about mileage just want it to be presentable and not covered in giffer tape or dents.

Budget somewhere in the region of £1500 ideally.

Not keen on French cars although there seem to be plenty in budget.

I’m already scouring eBay/FB etc so got that covered, just thought I’d ask here too in case anyone’s thinking of adjusting their fleet.

Thanks!

Aware French, but surely @Pat Earrings Laguna ticks all the boxes.

Yeah I did look at it but I just don’t like them, I’ve had one many years ago and it’s just not my bag. Shame as I’m sure it’d be ideal!

The Laguna Mk2 was a bit crap but the Mk3s tend to hold up really well. Dare I say it, more so than an equivalent Passat or Insignia!

Appreciate they're not particularly inspiring though. Having said that, I wouldn't kick a Laguna coupe out of bed, especially if it was a 3.5 V6!

Does a spaceship Civic tickle your fancy at all?

It just wouldn’t be dog friendly enough unfortunately.

My intention is to get an estate I can put one of these guards in to have a Labrador department and a pug department

Look out for the likes of Barjo or Guardsman cages - the centre bit in those is really solid - I had the type you picture in the Outback and the bit that fits behind the seats was ace but that centre divider kept loosening up and big poodle could then collapse it on small poodle.

And put the £910 you save towards dog food / toys

Mrs JJ has a weird hatred towards Mondeos and that one is just a bit too giffer for me, if it was a bit less dented and I would have attempted to convince SWMBO

Our espace? I'm sure the dogs would love it. It is French, but it works and the injin is Datsun.

Mrs JJ wouldn’t drive it unfortunately

Just found a Mazda 6 2.2 estate which looks bloody perfect but the chap isn’t replying so I assume it’s sold or I’m mega impatient.

@red5 Is worth a try, I think he used to have a couple of Insignias and often has some cheap runners.

would this be a terrible idea? No idea what it’d be like on fuel being pez 4x4 and it looks like it’s had advisories for the rear subframe a couple of times.

He has however owned it 10 years, it’s got a new MOT and 4 new tyres. It’s also local and looks good.

Currently trying to persuade Mrs_oui_si to sell you her Astra. Already has a posh dog guard and a diy carbon composite boot divider. She's very attached to it though...

Mine was a spec B so the 3.0 flat 6 but probably the best car I've ever owned. Would have still had it if it was an estate not saloon. Very competent things

Don't think the 2.0 is that much better on pez than the 3.0 tbh. I never got over 30, even on a long run, closer to 17 on the short commute to work. But what you spend on fuel you save on it breaking down compared to a Passat

this is a weird one, I know in the pics it looks terrible but I reckon itd clean up OK and it’s a simple engine too. Cheap tax etc and it’s only 15 mins away.

The cosmetic bits he mentions are fine but this bit is weird:

“There is a bobble every full rotation on front left wheel, very noticable at low speeds, dont notice at motorway speeds, possible bent drive shaft, and possibly on front right also.”

Ive spoken to him to try and find out what the fuck a bobble is. He said the car doesn’t vibrate, there’s no noise, he said it’s like you’re driving over a speedbump but it’s a smooth bit of road. Really odd, he said it’s almost like there’s a big stone stuck in the tyre and when they took the wheel off and spun the disk, the shaft spun normally but also rotated as if it was slightly bent

I really don’t know if he’s just explaining it awfully or what. Not sure how a shaft would just bend.

If it was a simple easy fix I’d have a punt for a grand but it could be anything I guess.

EDIT: said he’ll take £800, do I get myself into it or not 😂

A decent non-bobbly v50 would be a goodun. Mk2 focus underneath.

Yeah I had an S40, if I knew what the fuck a bobble was and how to fix it I’d probably go for it as £35 tax is appealing and I really don’t think it’s as bad as it looks, it’s just fucking filthy, but I see it as it could be anything from a driveshaft to gearbox issues or anything

Noice.

Yeah, that one is about £500 too expensive for what could be a fucking pricey issue
