Guest Hooli Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Have a look on ebay, you can get stuff like TomTom Start 20s with lifetime europe maps for £30-40 refurbed. You can't plan fancy routes as they only do one waypoint, but for A to B they are fine. HarmonicCheeseburger 1
Wingz123 Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Any points for a budget satnav? I would only need it occasionally but would like something modern and updated.Waze on your mobile? Free and traffic in real time - absolutely gold in London adw1977, Dead_E23, The Moog and 1 other 4
The Moog Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Waze as mentioned above - best option really and helpful for police warnings and speed cameras.
twosmoke300 Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Didn’t DW get hopelessly lost using Waze recently?
Wingz123 Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Didn’t DW get hopelessly lost using Waze recently?Better in cities.... My favourite was the little cut through from Embankment, down the side of the Savoy and out onto the Strand to cut through to Trafalgar Square and then down towards Buckingham Palace
jakebullet Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Put tracking info into eBay. He can open a case but won't win.

Wingz123 Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Yep, don't know what the fuck he wants me to do about it reallyHe wants to keep the item and get his money back...fucking dirty bastard
forddeliveryboy Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Any points for a budget satnav? I would only need it occasionally but would like something modern and updated. OSMAnd on an android phone or tablet, it's all for free and works well offline. Better than many paid-for ones ime. Multiple intermediate points, car/bicycle/walking settings and a load of fine tuning within. But it works great, as is. Bike setting has avoid hills/less hilly/don't care settings which can be useful.
sierraman Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Re the wheel bearing, unless you are Geoff Capes, bung the local garage a tenner or whatever to press it out and the new one in. Fannying about on the garage floor with old sockets and hammers is horse work. Bearings etc want gradual strong pressure to knock them out successfully. Unless you can exert 10 tonnes off the end of your elbow. twosmoke300 1

Granted a garage is a way to do it but not much is beyond a home mechanic with a bit of ingenuity in terms of pullers/ press.
sierraman Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Sometimes it’s not worth wrenching your bollocks over the vice for a couple of beer tokens to someone with a press.
Tamworthbay Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Never wrenched anything off doing it, just moving a spanner a bit. Key is having the right sized sockets and spacers. Exiled_Tat_Gatherer and DodgeRover 2
Wingz123 Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 do you have a smart phone ? if so a vent bracket for your telephonic device and download waze ...What I said above
dozeydustman Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 It will, however if you lock the boot or glove box with the black Key then try to open it with the grey it wont do it, doesn't matter how old the car is or the spec it's just something Toyota do. Toyota dont give out master keys like the red Honda Keys as far as I know. Tailgate is a 'slam to lock' so key only turns clockwise to open. If you didn't want the valet/car park attendant to get in the boot, then surely it wouldn't have a remote mechanical release under the driver's seat? Glove box doesn't have a lock, so really, it's like having a 3rd key that does nothing special!
Guest Hooli Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Don't a lot of cars like that have a 'turn to lock more' after shutting the boot so that the valet key doesn't work? it might be something I've imagined over time though.

Not noticed it. All keys only turn one way, and it's turn to open or turn other way to snap key myglaren 1
Guest Hooli Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Fair enough, must be my imagination then. I've not had a jap car for over decades.
Sir Snipes Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Fair enough, must be my imagination then. I've not had a jap car for over decades. No my Nissan Bluebird had a similar, limited functionality key (red)'which i was told was a valet key but I never paid it any attention.
Tamworthbay Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 And my Beemer, it opened the doors but not the glove box. Seemed a bit pointless really but was a useable spare.
fatharris Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Herman is posing a weird issue. The coolant and thermostat housing was replaced recently and the cooling system was bled. Now it takes an age to get to 93c and the temp plummets like a stone if I had the sheer nerve to turn the heaters up in temp, which don't really kick out the same heat they used to. HOWEVER, the dedicated windscreen demist button throws out a lovely heat. It's bound to be a stuck open thermostat, right? Winter is round the corner....
sierraman Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Mostly OE ones are designed to fail safe in the open position. fatharris 1
Tamworthbay Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 I have also seen examples where they are the right size but have bypass holes for some models. That can have the same effect.
Ghosty Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Fair enough, must be my imagination then. I've not had a jap car for over decades. Hondas/Rovers have a key lock on the tailgate release by the driver's seat, to stop it working for valets.
Broadsword Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 As an owner of an MGF (remember the black one with detachable hard top which roffled and was with Moog briefly?) how brilliant* an idea would it be to use is as a cheap runabout over the winter? Basically those with experience of MGFs in winter conditions I am asking for your thoughts. It will have a hard top on so it is at least capable* of keeping weather out. It certainly is frugal enough to be a runabout.
Six-cylinder Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Which Mini booster/jump pack should I buy? Mine no longer seems capable of starting a car and I am bewildered by the choice looking for a replacment. The last one off Amazon was £30 it is ANNKE 300A Peak, 8000 mAh and has been ok, but I am disappointed it now fails to jump cars after 2 years. It still charges my phone and the torch works well. Has anybody had any particularly good experiences with how well their's has lasted or indeed bad?
Wingz123 Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Ive got a snap on booster (the normal sort of size you would think a jump pack would be) and have had that 5 going on 6 years it must be now. Still jumps larger diesel engined cars no problem - i keep it on charge in the boot should I ever need it Well worth it!!
Six-cylinder Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 I have a full size booster pack in good condition, but it is pain to carry around, especially if I go to storage to get a car and carry it just in case. I want a small one again to supplement the big one so it is easy to carry about.
xtriple Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 HELP NEEDED! Is there anyone near me (Torquay) that has strength in arms/hand and a very stubby 19mm spanner (open-ended) ? I have stripped so much from the top of this V12 engine it will never run again, all to give access to the oil pressure switch and I STILL can't undo it! It is really tight and all I have that is short enough is adjustable which just splays when pressure is applied. Bear in mind, I can't apply a lot of pressure!
