Yo dudes!! How does one undo these stupid sunken head rusty Pugshite 205 exhaust spring mofo?

attachicon.gif205.jpg

With really good socket on the sunken head. It might be easier to chop them off and fit new. If it is the real bastard ones on a 205 a cranked 10mm might do it but they can be sods. (I am pretty sure they are 10mm might be 11 though)

Went to the Rover just then and it started up first turn of the key to my amazement. Let it idle for a bit and it started missing slightly.

Turned it off and now it won't start again

New plugs and cap on order for tomorrow

They look similar to the Berlingo/Xsara ones I dealt with recently, I soaked them liberally with duck oil and they came off okay.

You have to counter hold the bolt unfortunately, given the lack of space it's awkward.

If I've done my sums right, that's 2932 microamps - not enough to light up a single panel lamp - not a big cause for concern as far as I can see.

Yes, a tiny amount of current. Quite safe to ignore as a car battery could supply that current for years.

Thank you both, I tidied up a few poor connections (like the battery negative lead!) and just going over a few things.

Hopefully this sorts out the power issues.

Soz, it's 'that' question again: This is DW8 I think, am I right to assume it's Lucas?

My Rover 220 does this. The latest theory was crank position sensor.

Looks like a Bosch pump to me.

My Berlingo had a DW8 and a Bosch pump but they're quite rare. What vehicle is it?

Hmm you might be on to something there - I'm sure it could use new plugs etc though anyway

Proper 'stupid question' here.

I need advice as used to Bentley prices and therefore have no idea what is the going rate....

I have decided to get the MX5 back on the road and so have been asking my local garage to quote/estimate for doing some work on it. I have been asking since before Christmas! I rang again last week and was promised a call back... still waiting of course. so, I rang the only other garage I have had good dealings with in Torquay re Mazdas and that is the ex main dealer! They are still spares and service for them but lost the franchise to a chrome and glass place, this place now (well did the last time I was in there) sells MGs.

So, I asked for a service - £80

Cambelt - £280,

MOT £55

and gearbox oil change but as the cars an import, they weren't sure on that. The other prices looked alright to me, are they?

It is a full kit wiv tensioners etc.

[tightwad] You do know that the 1.6 engine is non-interference, don't you ? [/tightwad]

Have eBay removed the partial refund thing? I've been sent an item (R8 clock module) not as pictured, I don't want to return it but I can't find any other options. Am I being thick?

Email the seller with an other question message rather than item not as described and try and work something out between you?

It's an auto and only the Jap imports were. Don't think you could buy UK spec MX5s with auto gears.

I read your post as "used Bentley prices".  I thought you were selling up!

Fair enough then really, I would be checking it's not a odd specific oil it needs and finding out if it's a sump off (in which case you may as well change the filter) or a drain plug

Good points all. I shall away to the grand master that is.... Google!

Seems it is just ordinary oil (ATF type stuff) but there seems to be no clear advice on draining, it ranges from remove oil cooler pipes and drain tat way to, there is a drain plug... Either way, there is no filter!

The exhaust on my 406 has some small holes on the centre pipe. It looks like it's been scraped at some point so there are a series of small rust holes about 12" along it's length on the bottom of the pipe. I've ignored it for a while and it passed the last couple of MOT's with just an advisory. However, I'm now noticing diesel fumes coming into the car when sat at the traffic lights and I don't want to poison the family. We've got a trip to France booked in July so I need to get it sorted before then. Is it worth me using an exhaust bandage or some other temporary fix or should I bite the bullet and get it replaced? I don't mind spending on it but the rest of the exhaust looks in OK condition.

You may need to get the rear section done too if they won't separate from one another. I'd get them from a factors and slip a garage £20 to fit it. Much cheaper than a fast-fit. Probably no warranty but I was able to do my old 1.6 escort for about £80.

Clio has allegedly FTP and is very poorly according to what I've been told, but I haven't seen it yet. If it's just lost a round of cambelt roulette would it show some error codes like implausible crank sensor that I can check before I even try to turn it over?

How easy is it do get resetting the tappets wrong on a kent/Valencia engine?
