MOOG seem to be middle of the road stuff. I use a fair bit of suspension stuff by them. I doubt if it will last as long as O.E. but its a lot better than unbranded ebay stuff. I havent had anything last a noticeably shorter than acceptable length of time.

Got my MOT pass sheet, with advisories for the rear brake discs being fucked when they've just been replaced as part of the failure.

If I go back will I be told to get lost or can it be taken off? I'm not best impressed considering what it cost and it STILL doesn't have a clean MOT.

Once it's on the MOT certificate, it remains on the MOT history permanently then unfortunately

That's good to hear, their suspension bushes are ridiculously cheap on Mister Auto.

My "favourites" for suspension stuff are moog or Lemforder - they seem top be decent value for their prices.

I have a leaky water pump on my 1.2 Seat its weeping a bit but think it leaking more under full load.

If I throw a bottle of K seal through it will it seal it or just make the cooling system gunky and hard to clean out when I do replace it?

Oh well, I'll just put them on my shit list. I wasn't best pleased that the way it was being driven round the workshop either, being crunched into reverse a nanosecond after taking it out of 1st or the revving the bollocks off it to go 2 MPH. I hope I looked like I was about to explode, 'cos I damn well felt like it.

Well, if you are looking for a new garage.....

I'll keep you in mind SOC, you're about 30 miles away but I'll certainly try and chuck some work your way if I can!

My 79 t2, registered in 80 has to have a rear fog light.

Over the years because of a lack of interest, it's had some right bargain basement shite bolted onto the back bumber*.

Can I legally fit an attractive* Maltese cross tail light as seen on various fat motorcycles?

Assuming I just wire up the bright, bake light part of it?

Volvo question. Back end seems to scrape on corners but even worse with a load in the boot or people in back. Sounds as if mudguards hitting the road or tyre rubbing somewhere. I'm guessing springs and shocks? It has a towbar so probably towed a heavy nosed van

Don't know if this might apply to your car Bub, 760's (so probably others) with Boge self levellers had lower spring rates than normal spec cars, which had stronger springs but standard shockers.

Those Boge levellers worked well but their damping action didn't last very long, effin scandalous price too so some people just put normal 740 shockers on @ about a tenth the price, can't say i blame them but if you did that you needed to change the rear springs too.

I would have thought that for MOT purposes you can fit whatever you like so long as it's bright enough,  red enough,  in the right place and not causing a fail for other reasons like sharp edges.

If it was a kit car that you were putting through IVA it would need to be a certain size.

I'm trying to remember if there is a space in the light cluster on a T2b to just fit the Fog light (or is that reversing lights on early ones).

Reversing lights.

No bays ever had fog lights

Or the bloody switch!

I suppose you could put a 21w red bulb in one of the reversing lights and rewire it as a fog.

I've still got a pile of bits from mine if you need owt?

What is da best cheap "go pro" style camera?

Fancying something to record the GLF escapades!

needs to be mountable to the car (in its own cradle/suction mount)

Correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not an MOT tester.

Reversing light  - not on MOT

Fog light - don't these need to be 10cm or something from brake lights?

Posted

I don't think so because some cars like Puntos have them built into the back light clusters.

Posted

It's a C&U rule not a MoT one, testers aren't required to check the exact positioning of lamps. I think on the Punto (and other moderns) that the fog lamp is far enough from the brake because the light cluster is friggin huge.

^ This, as all NA Eunos Roadster owners will tell you when their post-import foglight rusts off and a reversing light (<100mm from the brake light) needs to be repurposed.  MOT is fine, but you hate driving near police cars 'just in case' they know it's less than 100mm.

What thickness is the metal on car body work, specifically BMW e39 floor around jacking points and Merc W126 inner wing under the battery tray? Just wonderin', like....!

Well yesterday the Volvo had new springs fitted on the rear. Noticed a couple of scuff marks on innner arch high up but nowt major. Fitted springs and it rides loads better. Doesn't pitch and wallow, back end sits a fair bit higher too. The old springs could be compressed by hand. Obviously not fully though!

Was driving my gf's modern Fiesta and every so often at motorway speeds there's a random "kerdonk" sound or 2, that's coming from underneath, either halfway along or near the rear that occurs every so often. Doesn't happen at lower speeds, and it seemingly only occurs when on flat unbroken surfaces, not on joints, bumps etc, and I never see anything that I could have hit either.

I picked up that it happened twice when I'd just overtaken someone at an indicated 70, and move across back into Lane 1 then take my foot off the accelerator a smidge. Would a modern Fuel injected car possibly be firing unburnt fuel into the exhaust where it's then combusting? Car tends to be warmed up when it happens, which kind of backs my hypothesis.

In every other sense the car seems to drive fine, certainly pulls a lot better than mine (though hers is 35k v mine at 117k miles)

What's the easiest/cheapest way to increase the centre bore of a steel wheel using tools I probably already have or won't cost much to buy? I've spotted a set of Civic steel wheels with good tyres locally, they only need 1mm shaved off the CB to fit my van. I think I've done this with a round chainsaw file before but it was a PITA.

Don't know about cheapest but brilliant are Mobius Standard lens. About £50.  Have one as a dash cam in constant use 8 hours a day for 2 years.  You can get helmet/crossbar/etc mounts for it for a couple of quid on Ebay. I catch something amusing every other day. For example (looks a bit funny on Youtube. Crystal clear on PC though. Will check settings):

I would love to hear of an easy solution, but I think it just boils down to going at it with a file. I would suggest buying a new half-round file for it. I am notorious for keeping old files until they are worn almost smooth then getting really angry when filing something takes forever.
