Every time I take the Mercury out in the rain the windows steam up massively inside. The heater and blower works, the aircon doesn't work. Only happens when it is raining so no issues with heater matrix leaking etc. No loss of coolant or funny smells inside. The heater will eventually clear the screen and front windows, but the rear remains fogged up always if raining. It is like the system is stuck on recirc rather than letting in fresh air, but no button or switch for that.

Any ideas? No water leaks into the cabin or damp carpets, just happens when it is raining. Is there likely to be a recirc flap in the system somewhere? No damp carpets anywhere and boot is dry inside.

I'm fairly sure that an EU law was passed about 15 years ago that meant Motorbikes could only have one headlight on at a time.  It wasn't well liked so the manufacturers make it fairly easy to convert them to both in use.

You are right . If they are within a certain distance of each other they are classed as one light so can't be 60/55watt . That's why the Suzuki sv650 has the two lights working at the same time but are only 35w bulbs

What does FTP mean? I keep seeing it mentioned in regards to reliability, but not figured it out yet.

Fail To Proceed.

It comes from the probably apocryphal story of the driver of a broken down Roller being told:

"RollsRoyce Motor Cars do not break down ,they fail to proceed."

Sorry,Richard obviously types faster than me, hell, Stevie Wonder types faster the me.

Pollen filter? I had a 1998 Polo that steamed up more the further you went, I changed the 12 year old pollen filter and transformed it.

I'd been on the internet for years before I realised FTW didn't stand for Fuck The World any more.

Furry Trouser Worm? I only first saw that 2 or 3 years back, maybe I need to stay in more?

Ok, what's WBOD mean?

Years ago a mate of mine phoned up and mentioned he'd been in a new store called IKEA and wondered if the letters actually stood for anything. Well, that was half my brain absent for the next few minutes until.... I Know Everything's Awful.

Thanks for that, it makes perfect sense now. Although when I first read it I thought the first word was "wife" :o

H. Rider Haggard via John Mortimer.

No, Wife Beater Of Distinction. I actually thought it was Wobbly Barge Of Death. Still could be I guess.

Would that be a SV650S, rather than a SV650 though?

ok, so the Puma is doing a regular misfire on a single cylinder.

This happens when:

The car is warm

Under light/medium acceleration load from 1500 revs to 3000 revs (occasionally higher)

this is a pain as 5th gear @ 1500 revs and a very light foot is normally perfect for town use

Idle is great

High speed running is great

Misfire can be removed by rapid on/off on throttle for a few seconds or change to a lower gear (which often gets the revs over the misfire zone)

is it most likely to be

Plug

Coil pack

Lead

do I just change all of them?

Plugs are only 2000 miles old.

Posted

Plugs wet with coolant due to leaking core plug under rocker cover

Plugs had oil leaking on them under rocker cover, but not enough to cause an issue after 2000 miles.

All cleaned up now, but still a misfire.

idle ok, flat out ok, misses a bit in the middle? Fuel. Maybe an injector with poor spray pattern...

Everything you ever wanted to know about cars in movies, and a hell of a lot more you thought nobody would be sad enough to catalogue is found on the Internet Movie Car Database;

Ok chaps- What are these fittings (as found in the uplighters on our wall) called, and more importantly where can I get some?

The plastic has become brittle with age so the bulbs will not stay in?

Tentative forays into ebay and google have proven inconclusive!

ta!
