garbaldy Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 re : selling the shogun and making a profit - even if you did buy it cheap from an old biddy or family member, why not share a bit of that profit with them - a nice little Christmas treat for them and a nice clean conscience for you. and more money to spend on shite I bought it from someone localish and I don't know them other than purchasing the car, the issue is that I bartered them down £100 quid and have spent nothing on it apart from some time cleaning it, this in my mind does not justify two grand odd, its not as if you would just give someone you didn't know two grand for nothing, my mate told me to stop being so stupid and cash it in but as I am not a business orientated person I don't see cash as the be all and end all that others do.
The Moog Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 If it helps take the money and give something to a charity. That way everyone wins. Wbac will be making cash out of it. Person who sold it got the cash they wanted. alf892 1
gordonbennet Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Maybe if they'd been arsed to clean it up, advertise it proper like they would have got more money for it. You put the effort in, why not invest that profit in doing the same again, buy another car that needs a bit of elbow grease, it might lead somewhere good for you, people are effin bone idle these days, i sometimes come home via Finedon and there's a really busy car wash there, many's the time there's hippos leaning on the wall threatening to demolish the fucker whilst they watch the eastern european lads wash their car for them, they might lose a few stone if they could be arsed to wash their own car. They aint alone in not bothering, SWMBO gets some right bargains on the local Faceache selling pages, i often hear the classic audible lines coming from her direction...''well clean the soddin thing then and get the right price'', thats when she's seen something advertised by a mong with the description needs a clean or a wipe over or some other stupid line. myglaren, alf892 and Vince70 3
garbaldy Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I know it sounds stupid but i find it uncomfortable making that much for doing nothing, I never thought of Charity Now thats a good idea it certainly won't do my karma any harm.
Clanger Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I bought it from someone localish and I don't know them other than purchasing the car, the issue is that I bartered them down £100 quid and have spent nothing on it apart from some time cleaning it, this in my mind does not justify two grand odd, its not as if you would just give someone you didn't know two grand for nothing,my mate told me to stop being so stupid and cash it in but as I am not a business orientated person I don't see cash as the be all and end all that others do.I just don't see the problem. Did you obtain it by underhanded or devious means, or did you show up, discuss the price they had set, offer a ton less and make a mutually acceptable deal? If the former, that's between you and your conscience, if the latter, no problem at all. As for selling it for a 'ansome profit, again - did you do anything nefarious or deceitful, or did you simply inquire how much WBAC was prepared to offer and they independently came up with a number? Same as above then. The seller got the amount of money they were prepared to accept, and the potential buyer has offered a number they believe the car is worth. Accept the good fortune that has come your way - perhaps this is the karma you have earned from previous good deeds. alf892 1
cobblers Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 You didn't force them to sell it you for what they did. They advertised at a grand expecting to take £900, so that's them sorted and happy. It's your car now, do what you like with it.
dave21478 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 ..... I don't see cash as the be all and end all that others do. Neither do I. Sure, I would like to be rich but I accept that I will probably always be relatively poor and am ok with that. The rockstar lifestyle doesnt appeal to me anyway. However I am in no way going to turn down a couple of grand that comes my way due to luck or good timing or whatever. scaryoldcortina and catsinthewelder 2
scaryoldcortina Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 ^^ This! Unless you have taken a vow of poverty get in there! alf892 1

garbaldy Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Thanks chaps for all your input, the reason it doesn't feel right to me is the same way I feel when I go to pick up my boss and have to sit around waiting doing nothing, it just doesn't feel right getting paid for doing nothing, some might see that as strange but I guess that's who I am, I have worked for wealthy people all my working life and I wouldn't swap places with any of them that's why money is not my god, I once told my boss when we had a wage discussion that if I wanted more money I would go and work at mcdonalds instead of 35 hrs per week working for him.

Give it a good clean, service and sell it for a small profit? I think the WBAC quote is a bit salty but similar ones have sold for £3k+ on eBay. Seems like big money for a thirsty but not powerful old school 4x4 with £mega tax.
steve_earwig Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 "CHECK GEARBOX" Yup, it hasn't fallen out... *ignores light*Of an evening, when my wife asks me if I've checked the boiler (huge wood burning jobbie) I always say "yes, it's still there dear." It reminds me of the bit in John Carpenter's The Thing: Garry - The generator's gone. MacReady - Any way we can we fix it? Garry -: It's *gone*, MacReady. DSdriver and drum 2
Crusty Sills Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 My Seat has run low on anti freeze, being VAG I believe it needs the pink/orange coloured antifreeze. Now I cant find the antifreeze I need in my garage (think the missus has "tidied" it away with out telling me) but I do have good old fashioned blue anti freeze. Can I mix the 2 without major issues or will this cause the ice caps to melt, and my mighty 1.2 engine to shit itself?
HH-R Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Negative, IIRC it makes into a gloopy mess? MarvinsMom 1
MarvinsMom Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 ^ what he said, plus it depends on how much you hate the seat.....
burraston2006 Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 The thread about the Sesciento has got me itchy about a first car for the daughter. Seen a w plate fester 1.3 with 8 months ticket on it. It's in a garage as an ex p/x for £450.00. Thoughts on it? My gut feeling is that it's better than a Ka but other then that I've not had a lot to do with them.
gordonbennet Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 I found a decent 106 for my daughter for her first car, she loved it to bits and most importantly to my thinking, on a half decent set of tyres they stick to the road so well that the car forgives the many mistakes they make. 320touring Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Seriously a Clio is a good shout. good safety rating, hoonable chassis (1.2 is a laugh!). Cheap spare parts and decent insurance. almost as much fun as a Ka to pilot, but much safer

omegod Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 RE the shogun, if it gets sold for a decent profit go buy a £80 voucher from a local restaurant and pass it in to the seller as a gesture. Karma baby !!! The Moog 1

D Spares & Tyres Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 That reminds me of the Vauxhall Chavalier given away by Goldie Lookin Chain Surprised I haven't seen it on here
SiC Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 My colleague has bought a Spaceship spec Civic Type R, 8 years old, 36k, 3 weeks ago from a Honda dealers. As she got used to that (in comparison to her previous Puma, which I need to put in the Tat thread...), she noticed that the clutch was squeaking. This has been diagnosed as a duff master cylinder (by a different Honda franchise). Unsurprisingly, she's not happy that it wasn't spotted before she bought it. So what rights does she have? Honda are playing hardball atm, but I would have thought that as a main stealers, they would have had a duty of care to make sure that something fairly noticeable like that is sorted before it is stuck on the forecourt. My Civic has this exact fault. There is a Honda bulliten around about this. Basically you can either grease the shaft up with quality stuff every so often, replace the master cylinder or do what I do and just ignore it. It's a known fault though and even with the master cylinder changed the fault will come back again eventually. Personally as everything else mechanically seems fine with mine, I CBA spending out fixing it. Cylinder iirc is around £300 main dealer. Have a look around www.civinfo.com . Very good forum. Should be able to build up a list of prior cases where Honda has fixed it. If its a Honda approved used, it might be worth getting onto Honda UK and having a moan directly to them.
twosmoke300 Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Cyl is a hand cutting back twisting twat of a job to change on a civic ! Grease away !
