I don't think tractors have ever needed an MOT anyway, I'm not sure if you can plate rape them or not. Is it diesel or petrol-paraffin?

wor lasses mother has a tractor int barn. Shes a horsey type but its fuck all good to her as she gets a bloke to plow't field for £25 a go. And once he's done that he turns the soil over on her smallholding etc etc.

Anyway Said tractor is a Massey ferguson, apparently 'it works fine", I spotted a reg number (something like FEF 890 but not that and I've since forgot it) and did a DVLA check on my phone which showed it was made in 1952 and was last taxed in 83. Obviously its MOT and tax exempt now.

1: Is it worth owt? Shes wanting to get a bit of cash and was banding round the figure of about a grand, I reckon you could rape the plate off it somehow and make the best part of that, and she'd still have t'tractor in't barn. It looked a nice old bit of kit but I'd been outside the pub all afternoon by this point.

3: How do you plate rape something that doesn't need an MOT and has no realistic chance of passing one?

7: I would feel bad helping out the rape of a plate off of it really so should I just keep out of it?

You can't plate rape tractors. Also if you want to plate rape a pre '60 it will have to be mot'ed even though it doesn't need one. We had a tractor with RAM3G as it;s reg and found out all the rules then

There's still a few bob in old tractors of they're in decent condition. Have a look at classic tractor the next time your in Tescos.

+1. My mate Alan who owns the breakers has a wee tractor like that. His Dad is well into them, and has about half a dozen, plus 2 or three in varying stages of reassembly in the "shades" at the scrappy. Al told me that his old man has been offered fairly serious money for a couple of them.

Fairy nuff bout the plate rape issues, TBH I'm happy to write it off cos there's nowt worse than seeing UXBxxx on something proper (which is what imports and plate rape victims seem to get???).  I was speaking to my mum and it turns out I've apparently got some rich relative that made a load of money out of making motorway bridges or something and he is well into his tractors etc, so I will just put him in touch and hope I get a thick birthday card from one of them.

And the other day CatsInTheWelder went all green on me, like he'd been promoted to 'mod'. But he hadn't.

I failed the entrance exam

Car tax questionamabob

Tomorrow I embark on possibly my most foolish expodidtion yet to pick up a car purchased sight unseen. Its MOT'd (just) but is on a SORN, I have insured it having found that Kwik Fit wont mirror my NCD of 9 years  but that the lovely people at Lancaster will (for an increased excess), now i wont get my paper work through from Lancaster untill after I have been to collect the car, and I doubt it will show up on MID or IMD or what ever its called - can I juts rock up to a GPO and hand over the MOT and money and walk out with a tax disc?

Posted

Yep they don't check insurance anymore. Very strange not having to wave that bit of paper at them

Ahem.... Soooo, you don't need insurance to tax a car anymore, and in October you wont need a tax disc. No insurance or tax cross check then. Looks like it all will be done by the registration number either manually by dibble or ANPR?

Expect an 80's style increase in bits being pilfered off your car then! Instead of VW badges to wear as danglies it will be your number plate to adorn a similar looking, but illegal car.

Progress. Love it.

Another good reason to own chod then,  can't see any of the roadwars types running a Polonez or a Solara :)

Watched a parking attendant the other day, enter the details of all the cars one by one into his handheld device. Presumably he logged the times and issued tickets and such.

So, is this a way of the authorities checking the database for tax/insurance etc., as well as ticketing?

What,s the cheapest parcel delivery service from Liverpool to Sheffield (pair of trainers).

Probably My Herpes. They seem to be uBer cheap. Bit hit and miss whether you get the item of not though.

Of course you do. If it's not registered as being insured, you won't get the tax for it.

never had any issues with them yet and seem to always have the same driver who is a nice fellow.

Ive had stuff take weeks and weeks to arrive, and one item that the delivery bloke decided to play hide and seek with but not actually tell anyone where it was hidden.

Found that one quite by chance.

So, its hit and miss whether I'll get a disc for it tomorrow then? Ive got a couple of print outs but no certificate, thats being posted and as I only bought the insurance at about 2pm its doubtful it will be on the database.

Hey ho, drive it home and be damned, if Vosa tug me I can at least say I have tried to tax it and offer to buy a disc off them!

Posted

Just print off the 'receipt' and you should be ok. It's like a more modern (and probably equally shit) version of 'tax in post' notes in the screen. When me laddo picked up his (brand) new car, the dealer said he'd be fine to roll round in it until the disc came through the post.

Posted

Yeah, but I cant do that as the car isnt in my name, so the disc will go to the old owner until I get the log book tomorrow, with the car and then drive it back from Doncaster... If you go online it says you cant taxon line or by phone unless the log book is in your name.

Present system sucks goats :(
