Too early in the AM to do any serious mathz. But I’ve had:

1x 1984 Honda Prelude

2x 1995 Citroen AX and Pug 106

1x 1996 BMW 316

1x 1998 Vectra

2x 1999 BMW 318 and Golf GTI.

So I guess mid to late 90s is where I am at. I’m happy with that.

Hmmmm...

7 cars in 23 years:

15 + 11 + 9.75 + 11 + 3.5 + 16 + 6.75

Average age of my cars is 10.43 years.

MGB GT 1974

MGB Roadster 1978

Toyota HiAce 1991

C3 2004

Ibiza 2012

Ducato 2014.

Ignore the last two and it's pretty old.

Edit = all of these average to 22.5 but I forgot the two bikes in bits in the shed and their both 1955, so that takes the average to 33 (or 42 without the new stuff).

Current fleet - 63,55,31,28,18

Average age - 39.

Me - 59

Up until around 2000 I was buying cars at an average age of 15 years old.

I bought the 2000 Fiesta last year as a stop-gap - its still here but I won't be buying anything newer....

I'm going to fucking beat that.

And if it's the last thing I'll do.

Game on Junkman, game on!

But, you do know you can’t make yourself younger and handsomer like me don’t you!?

Westminster and Gazelle both 59,Rover 55,Peugeot 53,Volvo 48,Maestro 34,Volvo 29,Lada 23.This seems to give an average of 45,which says something as I'm 38. Never owned a car newer than 1998,although to muddy the waters still further both my newest cars were seven years old when I got them. I'm not as into the classics as I was, but agree with all those so far who've said mid eighties to late nineties gives you a car old enough to be interesting but new enough to still function as a car and be fixable when it doesn't.

I am averaging a bit over 33 years with the three cars, although the Land Rover (1982) and Jaguar (1970) really are move of classics than things the get regular use. That said, the newest car I have ever owned was a 1998 C230 Merc bought is 2011 when 13-years-old and I was quite surprised at how new that sounds.

We're getting to the point where old cars are so jammed full of electronic gubbins that fixing them needs a laptop just as much as a set of spanners. With this in mind, combined with the fact I might soon own a garage for the very first time, I have decided it is a bit now or never to buy certain cars.

Around 15 is where I seem to sit atm

Current fleet:

1999 CLK so 19 years, had car for many moons. A load of advisories on MOT last week but I'll attend to them all.

1982 Ferrari Mondial, another long-term resident of my fleet. Now 36 years.

1988 XJ-S V12 (I've had 3 other XJ-S's before), currently for sale and needs to go. 30 years.

So average age 28 years. Replacement for recently-sold 16-year old Corsashite will probably be something of 15-20-year vintage.

In late noughties had a Saab 900 from the late '80's preceded by a similar vintage Honda Prelude. Before that was average 10-year old chod of generally Ford or Rover provenance.

Eunos Roadster 1991

Fiesta 1994

Jag, Pug 106, Clio 1995

ST170, Passat Estate 2003

Mondeo 2005

Average age 20 years, give or take. Only the Fiesta, Jag, Passat and Mondeo are currently road legal, which skews it to just under 19 years. The Mondeo was by far the newest car I'd ever bought when I got it, it was 7 years old at the time.

I am bang on at 14 - Jag 15, disco 13 for dailies.

Adding a 50, 51 and 62 year old would skew things a bit and only the 50 yo is currently operational.

And I am leaving the ZTT out altogether

Average age of 32.5 years, which is actually much newer than I thought... Must try harder !

29.3 years brought up massively by the 49yr old spitfire that lurks in the back of the shed.

It's my only car older than me.

Posted

'79 to '02

Most are late 80s to mid 90s so say 25yrs as rough average age.

To me that's that age they're old enough to be interesting, but new enough to be reliable as a daily and simple enough to be fixed without a computer.

Posted

mv6 = 17 years old.

Mx5 = 21 years old

Bini = 17 years old

average 18.3 years.

Posted

Our daily drivers are a 14 year old Volvosaurus S60 and a 16 year old VW Polo TDI, by some margin the oldest cars in the road where we live, the shame of it!.....

Posted

1996 Polo

1994 205

1998 Golf

1994 850

1996 850

1996 Me.

All of the cars I've actually liked have been the same age as me or older. Therefore it can be surmised that my birth somehow ruined the car industry, sorry about that.

I do believe that makes an average of 17 years old

Total financial value of not a lot but I still feel like a winnah  :-D funny how shite works, suppose I could flog em all and buy a "nice" sensible car as recommended by the mother in law

Puma - 17 years old

75 - 14 years old

306 - 18 years old

SportKa - 11 years old

Twingo - 7 years old

Mini - 14 years old

9-3 - 14 years old

Puma - 21 years old

9-5 - 16 years old

I've bought a few which are around prime cubing age! 14.7 average, that puts me bang in shite territory.

Posted

a 9 year old, 18 year old, 24 year old and a 46 year old.

that's an average of 24 years :-D

Ideally all my cars would be on a J or K. '71 is the best year ever.

Mine is a 'K' 'plate - but '92K, not the original!

Posted

I've only got the one car and it's 16. Agree with others, at 15-20 you're usually saving something from the scrappy rather than buying a 'proper' classic, which suits me just fine

Puma is 19

Volvo is 20

MG is 15,though it looks the oldest of all of them.I can't imagine being without the rusty,oil-dropping thing  :-)

Average fleet age of 52.8, which is considerably older than I am, thank dog

Having a 95-year old skews the figures somewhat. Can anyone 'beat' that?
