It was the end of a hyperdermic needle that a nurse tried on me at the local "walking wounded clinic".

She eventually decided that it wasn't going to work so sent me to the specialist eye section at the "big hospital".

Still have a scar....

It's a wonder I haven't been blinded, the amount of times I've had to 'pay a visit' to have something or other picked, scraped or gouged out of my eyeballs.

Those words, "I'll Just scrape the rust off your eyeball" while brandishing what can only be described as a perfect Z gauge replica of a traditional groundworker's scythe still gives me the fear.

And yes, most of the time safety goggles were worn and were fitted correctly. The other times... okay, fair cop.

Anyway, back to the main feature...

ill have to get some 9.5mm spade connectors then

What for?  Just shove the ends of the wires through the holes in the terminals and twist them round.  👍

another day, another REV tinkering session :) all the electrical gubbins I had ordered had arrived so while I still had some daylight left I set about getting them fitted :)

IMG_1314.thumb.jpeg.84c098e1af487c06a1efb2e5e1209a20.jpeg

main thing was replace the broken fuse holder with a new inline blade type fuse and fuse holder, hopefully one will forgive the wago connector, as first of all before making anything perminant-perminant, I wanted to verify this was indeed the issue (plus not only is it the bigger size of wago connector I belive Wago's themselves are pretty decent, certainly in my experiance much better then chocolate blocks! its a fair distance from anything its not as close to the metal work as it looks)

IMG_1318.thumb.jpeg.6b2f6e450cac2aca46dcdc61f5d0311b.jpeg

and I am pleased to report, the crusty and failed fuse holder was indeed the cause of my lack of charging, and with the replacement fuse holder charging has now returned :)

IMG_1325.thumb.jpeg.7cb0365a74126558a4fe2b48914badd2.jpeg

battery certainly needs a charge tho, its very noticeable just how much brighter all the lights get when the regulator cuts in as you take it off idle!

IMG_1327.thumb.jpeg.961dec1340e1f56b36b7fc451c0750d5.jpeg

but with that and a couple other odd jobs taken care of, the battery charging once more, I took her out to the chippy and back, this time remembering to grab a night-time shot for @Yoss :) as I failed to do so last time! (with a bonus shot of someone probably going "HFM!" at London prices LOL)

IMG_1334.thumb.jpeg.606461c9161ce1a97efc93c139dfc187.jpeg

and soon-ish I was back home :) it was a fun drive there and back, plenty of stop start traffic, gnarly junctions, delivery riders on bicycles e-bikes and mopeds wizzing about the place and a token few pedestrians entirely dressed head to toe in black clothing just walking out onto the road, all good for keeping one alert at least :) (and is why I elected to still go out even tho it was dark, I figured its good to do these things so one is kept fresh and familiar with it all)

You need a dedicated hook for all your takeaway delicacies. I use the change holder in my car.......

Actually, thinking about it the various Moto Guzzi's I had in the '80's also had those ceramic fuses. Contrary to popular myth the Guzzi's electrics were perfectly reliable so I was less familiar with their fuses than the MZ's. So a European Thing.

ps here's a random '80's Guzzi fuse box on evil bay to confirm my memories -

They were referred to as Continental fuses in my day.

I use the passenger side window winder on the Škodas but I realise that's something not many people will have any more.

You must have been driving pretty slowly for the bag not to fall off the roof. Ideal connection would of course be a soldiered joint if you can manage it,suitably heat shrinked. Probably worth leaving the regulator alone for a while to prove the rest of the system, and if it plays up you have one ready.

I have accidentally caught and hung my backpack bag on the umbrella pull handbrake REV has, even fewer peoples cars will have that

but I just put the food on the parcel shelf behind the driver, its heated from the engine/driveline right behind it :)

if I am at the FoD then its indeed cod and chips :), and one of those deep fried pineapple slices which are oddly tasty (i dont normally like pineapple at all apart from maybe pineapple juice) however when im at home its usually one battered sausage  one regular sausage and chips, or sometimes ill replace 1 or both of the sausages with a piece of chicken or 2, depending on how im feeling and if I know mum will be having some of the chips or not (they give you lots of chips) and ill often have a pot of mushy peas too.

I dont go for the Cod and chips at home because 1: its fucking expensive LOL 2: the quality/taste of the fish has not been quite worth the aforementioned cost, I will concede the FoD's local chippy does do a better cod :)

The FOD chippy is pretty good.  Not quite as good as my local but not far off.

on the battery front, I spoke with my brother and he happens to be dropping by here on Saturday  for something anyhow, so I have just gone ahead an ordered a new battery from Tayna, same type 037 just to keep things simple (and I think its even the same brand etc)

my plan/thinking with that is, hopefully by the time my brother gets here on Saturday ill have the new battery in hand and have it topped up, and will have figured out how the battery clamps work,

so that once he gets here, he can just lift the old battery out bring that upstairs for me to put on charge, and then right away take the new battery downstairs and pop it in for me, I can then keep the 2021 on standby somewhere in the house, so if the new battery itself then goes flat, I can just rotate the 2021 battery back in, and so forth with minimal down time of having to wait for batteries to charge or getting my brother in on 2 separate days :)

Seems like the main issues with REV are electrical and that's your forte anyway,so all seems to be falling into place for you.Wouldn't think the long periods of inactivity would have done the battery any good either.I'm a firm believer in keeping vehicles "live",which hopefully is what'll be happening now.Really happy for you as well.Keep telling us all about it.

Huge fan of the FOD chippy. I get funny looks when I say this but I think English chippies are way better than the ones up here.

Haggis goes well with sweet things, I think that might actually work.

Never tried a deep fried mars bar though, I don't really get it other than the attention grabbing value.

Deep fried battered pizza, aka "pizza crunch", is truly a thing of wonder. The trick is to use the cheapest possible frozen pizza though.

Is there any food product you don't deep fry in Scotland?

i deffo think there is mileage in replacing the crappy continental fusebox for one of the new type of blade fuseboxes- for no other reason than blade fuses are soooo much easier to find/store for any "oh shit" moments when the loom smoke tries to escape

Absolutely, 100%. Those old continental fuse holders never grip properly, the modern plastic replacements to ceramic fuses have a tendency to melt before the fuse goes anywhere near its maximum current, and the fuseboxes themselves are usually riveted together which is a magnet for corrosion and vibration kills them. Plus finding a replacement continental fuse on the go can be a real problem nowadays.

I like the blade fuseboxes which have lights to show you which fuse has blown. It just makes life so much easier.

oh the main fuse box on REV is your normal Lucas glass fuse box :) remember a Model 70 is a collection of spare parts from around the world flying in lose formation (C) @Zelandeth so the engine/Dynastart wiring is all Bosch but the body/chassis wiring is all Lucas :)

but your right that I have been thinking it might be worth my while replacing that with a modern blade fuse box, its a fairly standard Lucas 2 fuse box shared with many vehicles so I do wonder if someone makes a modern equivalent that is the same footprint but takes a couple blade fuses instead

I also need to figure wheres best to get wire from, i'd like to order up spools of wire of all the colours used in the Model 70 wiring loom, so if I need to make any additions/changes/renew something, I want to be able to keep the colours all the same, there are 9 colours in total but a few wires use combinations of those (Brown and yellow for the charging light for example) so I need to figure out how many combinations are used as well

image.png

rather scarily I have seen the odd Model 70 where the glass fuses have been replaced with the wrong type in that, they are lucas 25A and 35A fuses, but thats their *blow* rating not their contious running rating, so in modern parlance they are more like 12.5A and 17A fuses

but I have seen some Model 70's fitted with actual 35A chunky fuses for example! (thankfully last I checked REV's are all correct but ill double check soon)

Salad, probably.

A lot of this deep frying everything malarkey is quite new and a lot of it is just attention seeking.  Saying that, deep frying something doesn't always make it unhealthy. The batter tends to seal up and the contents get boiled / steam cooked.
