Great news. I think a few of us are more than relieved, that are wallets aren't being relieved....

See now you're talking sense.

Cheers Dave. I’m on holiday about 15 miles from you and you’ve just registered your interest for a collection thread.

Nice one x

Still for sale after an hour. What's the matter with you people?

A 1.6 GL was the ultimate Escort estate in the UK , although with those wheels this one is spiritually more an Orion estate. Did they get Ghia wagons in Germany?

In a few years this will be spoken of in the same way as those immaculate £2k Cossie's and £500 GhiaX Grannys that someone else always seemed to find 20 years ago.

I was about 10, so all I remember is that the glow plugs took a long time....

5 of us regularly went on holiday in it round the UK. Dad's repping vehicle.

I think I was miffed because the GL didn't get electric front windows until 1988 model year. If that's wrong I expect to be corrected within 10 mins on here, lol.

Yep, borrowed a 1.6L D onion off a friend once, 88 E-reg. Glow plug light would be on for nearly 10 seconds even when hot - think it was a straight timed relay as opposed to temperature dependant. Economical, but very slow. And very cramped behind the wheel for a big lump like me.

Equipment for trim levels I know sod all about with Fords though.

I think you're right, because 1988 was when the LX came into the range so the GL went a bit more upmarket. I think it lost the colour toned bumpers the same year though...

Thank you for the interest ladies and gent's, let's see if we can get this old girl rehomed...

We'll spotted on the MXV2'S. We were quite anal with it. (Genuine ford oil filters etc)

Yep. Three door estates seemed to be more common when we were selling them years ago.

This one is very nice. Thank god it's a four door so I don't have to start moaning I have no money.

Sexual.

I don't need it but I'm glad it's being saved from Ford scene modifiers.

Please tell me it has the joystick that controls which speaker the sound goes to

Doesn't look like it, but it wouldn't work anyway as I spy an aftermarket head unit

Hopefully now going to a new home. Thank you for all interest.

Joystick models were the early D & E reg. They also had colour coded dashboards!

Good stuff. Sorry it’s not me. I needed to ask the boss as I was about to spend her money, otherwise it’d be Cambridge bound to join a very disappointing red Ford Sierra 1.6

It’s a credit to you. Hope it’s around for many years to come x

Ah yes of course.

It was a long time ago but my parents bought one off Swithland motors. It was minty green everywhere, even the windows. I remember the log look coming back and them finding out and being horrified that it had 13 previous owners. It would only have been around 5 years old at most.

But anyway, I really liked that car. The joystick and the removable radio with a big handle on it stick in my mind

That’s fab!!! And so cheap!!!

Someone buy it, look after it and please keep it stock. The amount of these mk4’s being given the ASBO treatment makes me well-up ????

I am not a fan of fwd escorts.

But that is fit and far too cheap.

Damn me and my being sensible head! Had I'd seen the photos before your message Danny I'l might have been getting myself in trouble right about now! It's a bloody local car too being Lawford Service Station!

Wow, that is absolutely lovely. Will have folk fighting over it on here I am sure

I'm relieved it's going to a good home. Also annoyed my 1.6 CVT gl in a metallic green I had about 12 years ago was in a worse condition than this is now! Also annoyed that my gl didn't have electric windows, mirrors or sunroof. It had the overhead mounted clock though which was odd! And I think it had central locking but bugger all else

Shit ! Missed this coz I was having fun with the GF yesterday evening.

I would have virtually shook Lincolndanny's hand off.

Lovely wagon. Good its going to a shiter.

Those Lawford Service Station plates are fantastic - that's my local purveyor of pez.

Re. leccy windahs etc, for about half an hour at around the time that the LX was introduced, Ford offered a better-equipped "GL Plus", which was labelled as such. That spec became the new GL, presumably once they'd run out of "Plus" stickers.

I’ve woken up with a raging hangover and a heart full of regret. Should have just spent the wife’s money!

Thing is my 1.6 go was a g plate too so I'd have thought they'd have Sam trim.

See now that's what I like about here, a nice useable modern classic going for a sensible price! My childhood right there, these were everywhere before they went all blobby and not as nice
