My mates going on about a hid kit for his octavia. Found a hid kit for the zx for £26. Anyone fitted hid bulbs to shite before?

Posted

How much MOT has it got? Cos it won't pass another with shonky HIDs....

That's what we are looking into. Forum posts say their ok with no washers or self levelling fitted, but if any of that's fitted it has to work...

I thought they had to have headlight washers with hid kits. I forgot there's a few testers on here, what's the crack with moderns and hid kits?

Posted

Actually yeah, it seems to depend on how arsed your tester is. They're not legal unless E marked, but no check done for that on the test. So it seems to be confined to beam pattern. Hence, ignore me.

New Episode of Roadkill came out just shy of an hour ago. Been grinning ear to ear ever since.

Not their usual thing (usually old beaters), but trying to offroad a Dodge Viper is certainly silly and should be applauded.

The problem with cheap HID kits is they quite often send the beam pattern to fuck, leaving you with less useful light output overall as half of it is shining up in the air.

Yeah, I've had mixed results. Great in a Lupo and Mk2 golf. In my Ibiza they were only great at illuminating peoples sky dishes.

I offered to fix an 850 odometer for a chap on the Volvo forum. I wasn't really wanting anything for it but I said I'd take a couple of beers if he insisted. He turned up this morning with this lot.

And he's going to drop in a Premium Sound System stereo for me at some point. And I got to drive a T5. Not a bad start to the weekend.

Even after 26 years this guff still makes me grin!

Discovered I can stream downloaded stuff straight from creaky old PC to new tv. All done on the WiFi so no leads needed.

Only issue is that WMP doesn't like mp4 but not a mega problem as can run a script and use mkv.

Doesn't work to stream it via DLNA. Spent about an hour trying to find a way round.

All it means is that I need to make sure they are WMP friendly files.

Oh balls, forgot. I use a chrome cast with VLC but I have to mirror the screen beforehand on my phone to play stuff. Apparently the next version of VLC will solve this problem, so I've read.

Spent a month looking for a car for No1 son, very picky, must be large, not French, doesn't like this and that, no budget so in a moments rashness we/I bought a BMW 530D Touring with replacement gearbox in boot, parked for 9 months, no test, 233k, flat battery, flat tyre, flat air bags to make sure you couldn't see what you were getting into.

The grin is cos after fitting supplied box, front pads and rubber cush drive it passed its test with no advisories this morning. I've done about 100 miles today across the moors and down the coast, all to report is quite a sootyneck on full throttle and an exhaust/rear suspension thud.

You would have a pic of a large old German barge at the seaside but I can't find the phone lead....

I've been looking for a small trailer to haul tat around in for the Almera more or less since I got it 3 years ago. All I could ever find were mint stainless trailers for £££ which wasn't really what I was after. Today, Muvva_Stanky came down to Stanky_towers for the weekend, wen't to pick her up from the B&B she was staying at, 50 yards down the road - whats this I spy?

Yes, a shit 5'x3' trailer, knackered load deck, fucked tyres, broken light unit on the trailerboard. £25 ONO. Went up to the door and asked very politely if they'd take £20, they said they'd be more than happy to do so as it had been cluttering up their drive for 3 years. RESULT!

It needs new wood for the deck and probably the sides, but the metal frame is sound. The rear light units can be replaced for £6 off ebay and just screw on. The tyres need pumping up to assess their long-term survival prospects at 60mph with a load of shite on-board but probably aren't a total write-off just yet.

This also means we can take the bikes out with us, and over the summer I can rent a kayak or paddleboard and go out for the day by myself. I've just been looking up prices for sheets of 9mm plywood at B&Q, I reckon a couple of weekends tinkering and this bad boy is good to go for under £50, less than half what the next-cheapest one I've seen would have cost.

WMP plays MP4s and a whole lot more with this add on, I've been using it for years. http://www.filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/

In 1978, Edgar Bergen, the ventriloquist left $10,000 in his will to his dummy, Charlie McCarthy.

Friday turned into an interesting night. I was chatting to the girl at uni I may have a bit of a crush on and the conversation turned to cars. That's when she casually dropped the bombshell that until recently she owned a Proton Persona  She's as far from the stereotypical Proton owner as it's possible to get but she seemed rather fond of that car. Alas it's gone now but it's been replaced by some sort of Korean Chevrolet so she clearly has impeccable taste in cars. That little revelation just makes me want her even more...

Can't watch Moto2 as the noise of the engines sends me straight to sleep! Seriously, not through boredom or anything, just the tone of the engines themselves. 5 minutes in and I'm snoring! As soon as it finishes, I wake up again!

Moto3 was great and so was MotoGP. Not awesome, but better than the F1!
