What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Oh oh oh! Was just in the TR7 on the way home from work and a bloke driving towards me waved approvingly, funny thing was he was driving a yellow Ferrari 355! Either he mistook me for another fezza or, as I like to think, he would secretly rather be driving a TR7. :D

:lol::lol: Excellent, I wonder if he thought "Oh fuck, I've just admitted I like TR7s"?

The fact that in an hour i managed to write 2000 words about the Vauxhall Nova and Astra MKII, and was able to mention the Metro Saloon, the Belmont and the Daewoo Nexia. Haha my college teachers are going to love reading it......

Write with a pen/pencil or type? Oh sorry, this isn't the grumpy old man/pedant thread - apologies for that dose of pedantry there.#

Well done on mentioning the Metro saloon, it'll give the lecturers a "WTF" moment!

Posted

typing of course, as my handwriting is pretty terrible.Best thing is, i snuck a picture of the Metro saloon on there as well. I also did an illustrated comparison of all the bodystyles of Astra MKII and Escort MKIII.Its bloody near impossible to find a picture of a non barry'd Escort MKIII convertible.

Returned home to find this waiting for me, I've wanted it for yonks - the most ridiculously complete boxset of The Sweeney, remastered and all that. Had to wait ages for it to become cheap enough and now I can finally enjoy 18 discs of Marina vans, brown ties and classy 1970s birds.

Surely your new arrival has helped you make up your mind whether or not to pull a sicky for your 'Fun Week' at work next week.......

I can't believe how cheap it's got. Too late for me, I bought the complete collection a series at a time. There are two versions, the £58 version has some interesting extras. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s?ie=UTF8&tag=firefox-uk-21&index=blended&link_code=qs&field-keywords=sweeney&sourceid=Mozilla-search

My favourite extra is Dennis Waterman's acceptance speech for the Most Promising Newcomer award at the 1978 Evening Standard British Film Awards. He had been making films since 1960 so was a bit perturbed to be receiving a newcomer award. That made me grin. :D

I have just aquired this set too. Fantastic. Telly just isn't as good anymore.

Also got Van Der Valk Series 1 too. That is literally the greatest Autoshite TV experience ever.

dont go on R-R very much now due to a high dross factor but when i do, I always gravitate towards the locked threads on there, often some good entertainment can be found. This one made me laugh my knackers off! check the guys patter at the end, obv been on a lot of training about how to work on potential customers.

Not sure, I'd miss out on such exciting tasks as "No Email for an hour". Can't figure out how that's meant to be any fun, sounds more like an IT problem. Anyway, that's for the grumpy old man thread.Pleased that there's an option to turn off all the dialogue etc. and just have the music on its own, I'm going to build up an enormous library of incidental music on Minidisc and make my life seem more exciting. I could pretend I'm being tailed whilst driving to the barbers, or that getting a key cut is part of a risky scheme. As for Mr B's link, that's quality! Salesman of the year.

Try listening to this station, won't work in the car but whilst cc'ing emails you can be very covert.. :lol:http://somafm.com/play/secretagent

That thread is brilliant. I imagine 'encino' has posters like this tacked up all over his house.

I've actually got a fantastic CD - 'Shut It! The Music of The Sweeney' on the Cinephile label. Its absolutely superb & fully recommend it. Not only does it have full versions of loads of the incidental music, it also has samples of bits of dialogue from the programs between tracks.

Not sure if this is hillarious or depressing but seriously, how can anyone find one of these difficult to park?

Posted Image

Having driven one quite extensively I can tell you it would probably be harder to park a moped. Oh and despite 12 inch steels, it still has power steering

Posted

I can never see the point with parking sensors on such small cars myself, I used to drive big Renault Master vans without them and never backed into anything, I even drove tugs which are these automatic lorry type things used for shuntting containers around a port with 50ft trailers and a shipping container on the back on and never backed into anything. As for encino on RR, Just a simple no would of done! tosser.

Haha, that "Encino" link is GR8! Despite what he says, Cal cars can rust horribly! Ever seen a Fiat or Alfa Spyder?

Ever wondered what if Guy Ritchie had helped with Star Wars??

Bit sweary, caution required!!!

Just finished The Gun Seller by a certain Hugh Laurie. Made me ROFL a lot.

Watching both Crank films in a row. They are ridiculous, offensive, puerile and utterly utterly brilliant. Now I just need to find a situation in which I can use the "hey fucking fuck your balls" insult

I'm a big fan of "The thick of it" and "In the loop" - top swearing

"its like a f-ing nazi Julie Andrews..."

and this guy bodging his MGBGT is inspiring me back into the garage to bodge mine. :P

Edit - His estimates of how much of the car he has welded get less and less "complete" each time...

This could either make me grumpy or make me grin... today it makes me grin.

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (AP)-- An Alabama woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police say she let her daughter ride in a cardboard box on top of their van.

Albertville Police spokesman Sgt. Jamie Smith said the 37-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after police received a call about a minivan on a state highway with a child riding on top.

Smith said the woman told police the box was too big to go inside the van, and that her daughter was inside the box to hold it down.

Smith said the mother told officers it was safe because she had the box secured to the van with a clothes hanger.

The 13-year-old daughter wasn't harmed and was turned over to a relative. A jail worker said the mother was out on bond Monday.

Hahaha i complained to stagecoach about the bus coming 5 minutes early (which made me miss it) and they have sent me a ticket worth a days unlimited travel on any bus Stagecoach south operate.Pretty chuffed with that, and the letter they sent was very apologetic, thats how a company should work.

YOu should spend the whole day riding on the top deck of various buses spotting shite over hedges and fences. Make the driver stop for closer inspections by covertly but furiously pressing the bell for a bus stop.

Very happy to report that one of our cats has given birth to five kittens today :) That's nine cats in the house now and and the kids are asking if we can keep at least one, but it won't be happening!
