Neighbour:  My car is making a really weird noise when I rev it.  There must be something wrong with it.

Dad:  That's your rev limiter.  Stop trying to blow it up.

Poor old Volvo.  We suspect the neighbour is trying to kill it through neglect and abuse.  I should report him to someone.

Volvo Owners Club?  That'd learn him.

After leaving it for 2 days my wonderful, nearly 4 year old diesel didn't want to start. I used wife's car ,then set too making it go- jump leads and a can of Easy Start were found, pipe removed from air filter, the words 'Right you little bastard, you will start' were uttered. I switched the key( it' keeps turning over till it goes ) ran round to the front to administer the derv crack and before I could spray,it started!

It seems I'd scared it into starting, I'm thinking of patenting this repair method.

Went out to Boots for some camera film. 'I know, I'll go in Poundland' I thought.

Barrow, predictably, has loads every time I look.....

Meanwhile, making me grin tonight: the two AS-centric car chases in the Bourne Supremacy tonight.  Only one car out of place really, that being the bad guy's hijacked Merc G (being shit rather than shite).  Yes I've seen it before, many times now, but it still raises a smile.  Especially (as it did in our house anyway) following straight on from the proper Italian Job. :-D

MY POUNDLAND NEVER HAS THE CACK SOVIET CARS!! (sulks).

Also, that GAZ Volga taxi is the hardest car ever. The Bourne Supremacy's camera work REALLY infuriates me, but I made it to the end this time (after walking out of the cinema on its release because it gave me a headache).

I was genuinely pleasantly surprised to see an early Mk3 Cavalier when out and about yesterday.  It was gold, with the original grey grille still there, not having been replaced with a body coloured one as was pretty common when the facelift came out.  I would have taken a picture, but I was driving, so here's a blue version of the same model.

Our dog has just 'done a Fenton' on me. Let him off the lead, he gave me a backwards glance then pegged it big time. The two families out walking seemed to find some fat middle aged bloke wheezing away in full pursuit quite amusing. I caught the little blighter after a couple of hundred yards as he'd stopped to smell something.

I spotted these on the bygone galashiels facebook page.

SIK YO! A Mk1 Rover 800!  Its 'F870 WAB' which comes back to a Mk1 Rover 820e auto. First registered in early 1989 and last taxed in early 2001.

The Red Maestro, an LX spec lasted as long as the Rover 820e. First registered in 1990 and last taxed in 2002.

What was the problem in the end?

Is there a thread for this I've missing? If not MOAR details needed :D

Wiring! Nipped everything back to the ECU and started again.

Took 4 1/2 hours - it started as soon as I touched the key. Got a load of Astra connectors to replace the temp wiring I've done to make it look all nice and 'standard'. I can't say how relieved I am. Not bad considering the ECU has 60 pins, the main connector has 33 and no wiring information on the internet anywhere.

Good to see it back in action. Did you eventually sell the other Astra? I seem to remember it something like a V6 engine in it or something?
