What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

I had one of those chapel reed organs going free to collector last year as I couldn't take it with me.  Probably been turned into firewood by now.  I was given it by a friend who was moving out of the family Georgian town house, he used to restore organs of all sorts and shapes but health issues had prevented him from getting this one sorted.  Shame, I really liked it and could even play it a little bit.

They're great. Bought ours for our wedding, as it was in a field, but the farm we chose happened to have on in their storeroom! Which is good, as we were struggling with logistics - they're bloody heavy and we were in the 2CV.

Are you going to put some red and yellow vinyl on it to make and island hoppers van?

Shit, I suppose I've got to really.

Jmsguzzi's recent post in the no rhyme thread of the Lunar Rover.  Terrible, terrible pun.

Thumb is healing. I can pay guitar and drive the 2CV once more. Got a bit carried away and twatted it while gathering logs for the fire (clearly a dangerous game this wood burner lark) but feeling a lot better!

Put my ka-boomed Prima engine and everything needed to fit it on the Series 1 Landy forum. Sold in 20 minutes to a lovely man from Scandinavia whose brother lives two villages away. Result!

I went to see this cosmetically challenged W108 today with Junkman. We travelled in style - by Mexico Brown P6 V8.

The Mercedes is actually a lot better than it looks. Boot floor immaculate, floor pans spot on, rear arches blistered but all still there. The inner wings were even pretty decent, although I suspect the front cross member will wither away to nothing once a knot wheel's brought near it. The wings are frigged, but Chris's mate in Frankfurt has a pair of NOS items in stock for about a third of the M-B Classic price. The doors will probably be repaired or reskinned. Interior's perfect, as are the carpets. A very basic specification - a 2.8 litre straight six, Bosch fuel injection, power steering, no tinted windows or a sunroof - that's what has probably saved the front pans from rotting out.

Here's the clincher. It's a '72 car, and it spent all its life on the Orkneys. Bar one trip to Cornwall from Inverness, it's done 8,800 miles since new. Presumably most of them were through the sea.

Despite this, he bought it.

The vendor was something of a W108 fan - he had a manual 350 V8 parked across the road.

The trip back was "interesting" - particularly when the fixed beams went out on a B road close to the A523.

Wow! Apparently FATHA_Sterling told me that GRANDAD_Sterling had one of these or the older model. Arabs and Merc eh, who would have thought it?

Did you drive it back Jon? If you did, I am ever so slightly jealous. I never get to drive anything interesting. :|

That Merc makes the 67-250S i bought in New Zealand look like a minta!...but hopefully your mateys will have a more defined future than mine did!

I love the styling of those old Mercs, definitely one for the want list.

Funnily I saw a older lady driving a white one near mine a few weeks back, she looked very out of place.

Brilliant car,I've just come to the conclusion that I prefer the one piece headlamps to the stacked ones now. Maybe it's a case of most survivors areCoupes,6.3's etc so the single lamps are rarer.

On a separate note, me and the now Mrs NorfolkNWeigh lived in a 1967 300SEL for 3 weeks when were teenagers, sometimes the hissing of the suspension going down woke us up! I will never be allowed a w108 due to this traumatic ( for her) time.

Great stuff

I love the shot of the P6 in the background too.

THAT is amazing. More photos please.

Very 'shabby chic'.

It was hammering down with rain and the car was hard up against the back wall of the seller's house - so those are the only photos I got of it.

Having a Mondeo TdCi thing off at the lights this morning was quite amusing. He had me until I launched into 3rd and then I just managed to see him off before I turned off.

I wonder if there's a mondeo forum in web land and some old giffer is posting a thread with a title somthing along the lines of

What is it with people in old cars.

Well this morning I was on my way to work and at a red light this old jalopy pulled up next to me and the guy kept looking over at me with a crazed look,

I got a bit worried so when the light hit green I pulled away gingerly so as not to cause any road rage, this old car was right next to me with the guy now looking a bit excited so I eased of the throttle to let him sod of into the distance to save any confrontation.

Then to my amazment he turned of what was the point in that?
