Took a passenger ride in a Discovery 3 today. I'm grinning because it's really quite awful. Lovely engine - smooth and powerful - but the ride is less good than a Rangie classic and the technology is hilariously awful

Reminds me of a couple of weeks ago whilst working at the garage (the one that is taking the piss with my car) I drove a late Discovery 2, I was expecting it to be smooth, powerful and planted, it was awful and wallowly, very agricultural, but then thats what they are supposed to be for I guess.

Went to the Post Office to tax the 318iS and when I left the shop this was parked behind.

I'd love one of those e30 318is's. I think that's going be one of those cars really saught after in a few years.

Aren't the E30 318iS models sought after now? Typically after having offloaded a few for sod all over the years, I'm sure I read not so long back they were fetching decent coin?

Where did they find that wire coathanger? I've been trying fruitlessly to find a wire coathanger for the Princess after the previous improvised aerial went AWOL.

You can still pick project ones up for 6-700 quid and mot'd ones for 1200-1500 but probably not for long. That one looks like it's in daily hard use. The plastic coathangers you get these make shit radio antennas. I blame the chinese.

When I started my PC up tonight and connected to the internet I really didn't expect to find out Status Quo have made a comedy/action/tax dodge movie.

They survived the 70's but will Francis and Rick escape death in Fiji?

I think this is similar to cobblers' grin that I can't be arsed to find to quote, but I was getting really worried about the really loud grinding noises my car was making after a rescue mission in the snow last weekend. Been doing it all week, sounds like the exhaust blowing badly but only in R, 1st and 2nd. Feel it through the floor too. Doesn't do it in neutral. Various things went through my mind.... DMF? Manifold?

So as all the snow finally melted off the undertray that the sump must have been pressing against and vibrating like a drumskin, the noise has gone away :) Assume it had been scooping it up as I drove and packed it really tight.

Second episode of something called Injustice, we see this driving on a London street

Black-Cabs-London.jpeg

and then zoom in on the barrister in the back; cut to this driving away from a house

and we see the barrister knocking on a door. What the? Do you have to change cabs while going across London?

I was doing one of the "codebreaker" crossword-type competitions in Take A Break magazine this afternoon (sad, I know :) ) and thought, whoever laid out this one must be a Shiter, or at least some kind of petrolhead. Each letter is assigned a number, check these out:

F=1 (Formula 1)

X=5 (nuff said)

Y=10 (so he likes Lancias)

W=12 (aren't VW doing that as an engine layout these days?)

R=18 (likes Renault too)

M=25 (so now we have an idea where he lives)

Spooky eh! :D

Love the crowd's reaction to the Mustang bellend...

"Oh, he's doing a burnout. Lets talk amongst ourselves. Wait a second, he's knackered it! It sounds expensive! WHEYHEEEEEEEEY!!!"

If I was in the E30 in front of him, I'd be less than impressed at him nailing it towards the back of my car.

Just found the end of an episode of Shooting Stars on Challenge... Ulrikakakakakaka covered in some kind of creamy substance, sitting on the roof of a fairly battered C-plate bluebird hatchback! :shock:

I too am super pleased to read that news! Was going to post earlier, but got caught up in a long phone call and the unrelated new car purchase my brother made today.

There's something about those new Mustangs that just screams penis extension.

Pity it wasn't a Land Rover, it would have been a battered 4X4 on a battered 4X4.

Another major grin: watching GalaxyQuest right now on BBC2! Star Trek spoofs don't come any better than this... :D

Also: been a good day out today at the Commercial Vehicle Show at Kirkby Stephen and Brough. Loads of photos, which I'll share later; couple of minor purchases from one of the stalls, and some of the finest countryside England has to offer there and back.

Just took the Lancia on a 150 mile trip to Bridlington and back. Way there was pretty slow, stuck in a line of traffic plus I have never driven it far before (or for a long time) so did not overtake much, but the was back I was lots more confident and drive it like a hooligan and it was GR8 fun. I cant believe how much grunt such a little motor has. Most of the Dorises and Arthurs I overtook would have been right when muttering to each other about me going past them, their car probably is faster and anyone can drive like that but fuck it, it would not be as much fun as it would in mine would it.

Volksy had warned me that the webasto sunroof has started rolling at speed and he was right. This was fine (if not a little noisy) on the way there. It was slightly more annoying on the way back where the temperature dropped and it started snowing.

However I was glad to see that he had sorted out the other annoying problem of the sun visor falling down all the time by wedging the top of a baccy tin in the roof to hold it in place.
