The cold dish of revenge has made me grin.

I've found a new way of annoying cold callers. Just keep asking them how they are, starting on a scale of 1-5. When they start speaking just keep repeating the question but increasing the number a bit. My personal best is 1-5, 1-10 then 1-100 before they put the 'phone down.

filed away ready for the next sales twat who rings :D

i usually like to ask them "what are you trying to sell me?"

followed by (while they are still speaking) "no, thank you", that ends the call quite quickly

The other way of dealing with them is:

"hello, can I speak to Mr X please"

"yes certainly, I'll just go and get him"

Then leave the phone in another room and see how long they hold the line for

At least 10 minutes in my experience. It beats doing proper work :D

Death threats sometimes work too, as does plenty of abuse/swearing. I got bored of that though and the bread knife always goes off her head if she overhears me.

I try and be reasonable with them, I've been that person when desperate enough for a job. :(

Aye. A genuinely funny bit of banter's ok, but I try not to lose my rag with them. Not easy when you get those calls where the auto-dialler doesn't connect you for many seconds! On the rare occasion I wait long enough for someone to actually answer, it is hard not to be peeved.

I'll do most things, but I can honestly say I would rather be unemployed than a cold caller or door to door salesman

This.

Sorry like but it's one of those jobs where people pretty much need to expect the kind of abuse they get.

I was usually too stoned to care

Anyway this is the grin thread, Drove the Austin 1100 for the first time in months yesterday :D

Its been off the road for ages with brake issues, the last eezibleed session was GR3.5 but I figured it was worth testing so fired it up and attempted to find a gear. Hmmm reverse was about willing to play so rolled it down the drive and clonked it in with the engine off then fired it up again to an enormous clang as the rusted together clutch plates seperated  Oh well its working now, few quick brake tests round the estate then off on errands :D

VW bus is in for MOT tomorrow, wish me luck

Hey Cats, are you bringing the much ADO to Chumley? Please say yes!

I'd love to but I don't think it would be much cop for collecting a full interior from a Volvo

Brent Acre insurance. The most west country place I've ever called and the priceless "aww, I've spilled my coffee on it and it's all sticky now" in the background complete with broad accent was priceless. Really nice people to talk to about car insurance, so nice I was tempted to switch insurance to them even though it would have cost me more money... I didn't though, I'm not made of money and/or stupid.

Went to visit Metro Bank today to change my account. Not only are they open 8 am to 8 pm during the week they are open both sat and sunday. They also have on site card printer so you walk in, set up account and walk out wth your card and cheque already produced. The have a giant coin sorter to bung all your old coins into, if you guess the total amount you are bunging in you win a prize.

Also by taking my dog with me, I get £20 and he got a free gift. Plus he got to try the treats there and decide which one was the best. Very dog friendly, if you have a current account and you adopt a dog from battersea, they refund you all the costs of doing so.

All this plus the guys in the branch are fantastic. Everything a bank should be. :D

Moog, that's very interesting, are they national?

Rover sold fewer MGFs, and most of those have been "discarded" too, are they going for £8000 a pop? no

Prius sold to first caller. Just as well cos the phone has not been ringing off the wall... except for idiots in other countries a long way away trying to flog stuff, never get as far as finding out what.

To redress the balance over in the grumpy thread, this really surprised me just now.

From this

and now this

A nicely thought out series of modifications, nothing too flash, and a car that's otherwise unloved put into regular, trustworthy service with a sensible game plan. Was quite refreshing.

Sorry but i don't get it? it's hardly retro in my eyes, it's had it back windows boarded out, god knows why, spring cut, steel wheels fitted and it's painted bumpers redone grey.

I haven't read the thread so i might be missing something...
