What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

First up, selling a load of records on eBay. Despite having owned them for 20+ years I felt no remorse, and the money has been of use in what has been a rather challenging month financially - paid for some bits and bobs on the Camry at least. Best of all, I got paid without any grief for every single one of them, and the feedback thus far suggests they've been arriving to good reception.Second, the Camry itself. Worst journey tonight that I can recall for A Very Long Time - super-slippery conditions meant I could do little more than 25 all the way home. Yet I could just plonk it on 4th or 5th and it just grumbled along without a splutter (which is odd, as it has been a bit fussy on that until tonight). Sometimes I was doing 900rpm, most of the time 1100-1200. Even when I got stuck in a traffic jam on a country road a mile or two from home, making my usual 30 minutes-or-so journey take an hour-and-a-half, I felt so relaxed in it I just didn't care. A few issues due to its long period of being out of use gave me a few concerns to start with, but just like the estate grew on me I'm really warming to it now.

Meeting people at motorway service stations and swapping cars. Must look well dodgy to any onlookers but it's something I've been doing a lot of recently and I have to say I really enjoy it.I think I'm doing my bit for Autoshite as I've had some right fucking clankers/unloved shite and it always makes me smile.Met a lad tonight and did a bit of a deal on a car so it's yet another shitemobile off my list of 'crap to have one day' :D

I tell you whats made me happy, the amount of tat around Basingstoke at the moment is ridiculous! In the past 3 days Ive got 12 pictures. Im just building it all up for a big update on my spotting thread.....

Totally unrelated to Shite, but in amongst a very stressful day dealing with the border agency and trying to do a accreditation assesment for the school someone showed me this...Made me smile!

I used to work virtually next door to Chester City on Bumpers Lane.I'll say no more about footy on 'ere.... it's upsetting the natives :P

Adeva? I used to work there. Most annoying footy fans. Man U(re) by a long way. Just the way they refer to the club as "we" makes my piss boil.To get back to happy, although I'm not a massive footy fan, going to Marseille to watch Bolton in the UEFA cup was quality.

All football fans do that don't they? As if they have any control over the eleven overpaid foreigners running around after a ball.

Quite a few, but it's the way they think they're really involved in the whole thing, when they're sitting in the pub watching a home game that any fan as good as they think they are would actually be there.

I thought that was all football fans as well? Not that the prima donna footballers would ever associate in any way with the great unwashed on the terraces in any way that they would consider themselves and the fans to be a single entity that could be addressed as 'we'.

What scares me, as a Scotsman, is that this Capello chap seems quite useful... His approach reminds me of Sir Clive Woodford's on the run-up to the successful England Rugby World Cup win.

I support Crewe Alexandra. For several seasons I have strenuously avoided any suggestion that what happens on the pitch is anything to do with me.

:lol::lol::lol:

Dario Grady is the longest serving league manager now isn't he? I'm sure he's been in his job longer than Ferguson?

Crewe to their credit have had some fantastic players through their books over the years and I used to quite enjoy the 'Cheshire derby' many moons back*.

Sporty-shite/Pete M: were you working there (Bumpers Lane) when the scrapyard over the road caught fire?

Bastards (scrapyard, not SS and Pete!) cost me a night's wages at DMA (auctions) round the corner.

*Except the one where they beat Chester 8-0 or something daft

Me & Skyway were having this exact conversation last Sunday......

And when did you last see rival F1 fans having a fight outside a pub?

Yup. I wasn't there long, I think I was considered a tad too abrasive by people who didn't want to do too much work, and a lot too Scouse by Steve Cooke. I was sent there 'to sort out a couple of Bolshy drivers' on behalf of their manager. Problem was, I thought they were ok, they seemed to think I was ok because I didn't mind mucking in and cleaning cars, doing deliveries etc - ok, I was still some Scouse cunt from the office but I was fair with them.I quit eventually because I wanted to MOT my Sierra Estate and couldn't get an afternoon off to do it. Wasn't gonna commute for a week without an MOT..

The fans at Bathurst fight so much that authorities have restricted their booze.
When was the last F1 race at Bathurst?? :?

Small world! You must have gone there after I left. I was sent in after Cooke bought the place from Gary Pickford, and funnily enough, my brief was to "sort out". Quite enjoyed it there, TBH, a lot less hassle than Atherton, although that was only because you were away from the shit, rather than the shit not happening!Billy, I wasn't there when the scrapyard caught fire, cos I'd been "sent back" to Atherton, although I was told about it. Apparently, one of our lot didn't want to close up, even though it was nigh on impossible to breathe! Sound familiar, Pete?

Or are you asking sarcastically and implying that despite both being circuit-based, four wheeled motorsport they are in no way similar?

Well, I guess I am being a bit sarcastic as I don't believe there has ever been an F1 race at Bathurst and that F1 fans are in no way similar to Bathurst fans! There are currently only 2 manufacturers for the Bathurst race and it is very well known that as an 'aussie' you are either a ford or holden fan. With the good weather and the aussie liking of beer it's hardly surprising there is fighting.

Must say football makes me smile. Even more so that this season I have something to smile about thanks to King Billy... :shock:8) Also, I was in HMV in Darlington today and picked up a box set of all the series of M*A*S*H for 50 notes. Tescos have been selling James Bond films for £2 (good ones with Roger Moore). Result= me and my mate drinking Polish lager and watching them in an Alan Partridge style 'James Bondathon'.Doesn't get any better than that! :D
