I'd love it find one that hasn't blown its head gasket at some point. Does such a thing exist?

Yes. Lots of them, especially those that have been correctly maintained.

sorting out a cupboard that rarely gets opened and finding NOS car spares, boxs & boxs of them. They must have been there 3 years at least, and I totally forgot about them; a-series, b-series, mazda 323, renault, ford x-flow, cvh, pinto, colgne & essex. :D

boxs of clutches, brake pads and shoes, at least 2 dozen sets of points for the essex, water pumps, timing belts, fan belts, air and oil filters and Ford gasket sets.

Now the kitchen table and floor are full of boxs and SWMBO has arrived home. she is not as happy as i am by the sight

Got a decent quality clutch kit for a 1489 B series?

Picked up a really nice Sony Vaio laptop today in one of those cash converter type shops for £89.99. They are usually overpriced but I think they must have missed a 1 of the front of the label for this one. It's got an intel dual core processor, windows vista home premium, 100gb hard drive, 15.4 widescreen monitor...it's bloody ace!!

Just been to see 'that' abandoned garage in Derbyshire. All I can say is...WOW...

took plenty of photos, they are on my flickr...http://www.flickr.com/photos/24252872@N05/

and a video too!

:D:D:D

Cool, cheers for sharing. Just noticed that Cavalier is showing as being taxed until next year!

Good point well spotted. I got excited because the others are showing 'date of liability' most a few years ago.

I love typewriters. They're like carburettors, full of tiny springs, levers, adjustment screws and oily linkages. This one wasn't as functional as I was expecting - the type was misaligned, the return lever wonky and it didn't type with the top cover on. A couple hours of tinkering had it typing well, but the typebars failing to clear the cover was tricky. I spent an age fiddling with the adjustments before solving it in ten seconds by taking the cover off and bending it until there was enough clearance.

Nice find. Whenever I look at the laptops in local shops they're all tired ex-corporate machines with WinXP, pitiful hard drives and three figure price tags.

That is lovely. My Imperial is really just a badge engineered Royal. I was after something metal, but just couldn't resist that plastic 60s styling.

I saw that model PK at the radbmx meet in August, it is incredible. I'll chuck a photo on later..

Got the Granada back today, albeit with a temporary repair only, but at least it's home.

Also, after words with an ebay seller I've used before, I have a complete set of top and bottom balljoints on the way. From Limassol. Possibly the last set on the island!

Unfortunately, between being picked up by the recovery truck in the dark and a thunderstorm, on Saturday, and Andreas driving it into my yard this afternoon, it's lost one of the plastic vents from beside the rear screen. Anyone got one to send me? Please?

I've just watched a tv show set in 1963 and I was a little pissed off to see an FX4 taxi.

Turns out they were launched in '58.

How amazing is that?

Can you think of any other car that was launched in '58 and is still used in public service fifty three years later?

I hope they were at least using an Austin FX4 and not a Fairway on fake plates! Was thinking about this the other day - waiting in a taxi rank I was marvelling at how old fashioned the FX4s look. I suppose they're so familiar it's hard to think of them as '50s cars.

I seem to recall them looking old fashioned when they first came out. :?

You were watching PanAm, just admit it!

I LOLLED at the 'European' scenes, obviously shot in the US... some nice cars. A very yellow 2CV with black wings in '63 though? I even think I saw it in 'Paris' and in 'Rome'.

My car. After a tiresome shift last night, left work at around 2am and hit the motorway, stuck the car in cruise control mode and cruised home nicely. :D

Had a peek at an old forum I used to frequent. Had to laugh when some mogtard tried to reply sarcastically (and failed) to a post I made a couple of years ago about Rover wheels. What a moron. To be fair though, the guy has always come over as a bit of a tosser anyway :lol:

That typewriter is great. If I could justify having one I would, but I haven't had to type (or even hand write) anything for about 8 years :x

Anyway, this made me grin, in the post this morning courtesy of our very own Rootes_Arrow1725

I've got a load of those car mechanic magazines you can have for the price of the postage Scott.

Hey Trigg, if you've any 1980s editions of CAR that you're offloading, I'd gladly take them and would pay a little cash too! Also, any news on the car you went to see?

The Child Support Agency. Normally the subject of a grump - not because I begrudge the money, but because they seem to automatically speak to every non-resident-parent as you'd speak to a murdering peedo psychopathic donkey-humper. They reassessed me, and because I'd been doing loads of overtime I got stung with a larger payment every month. Yet it's taken then 12 weeks and counting to adjust my work deductions, so I've dutifully sent the extra each month as a second payment to make it up to the full amount.

The muppets have just sent two months back to me as a cheque, for "overpayments". WTF? Can't give the stuff away now!! I really do think I should be grumpy but it's making me properly chuckle - yet another government agency that can't it's arse from someone else's elbow.

I R A WINNAH!

Thursday night is Quiz Night down in Coral Bay. It's a pretty light-hearted affair, and I've joined a team that usually includes two other members of the Writers' Group. We do pretty well, often winning a round and sometimes even being top scorers for the night. We've also been known to win the Jackpot too. Tonight that's what we did! Just when you're on your uppers, wondering where the money's coming from for the next loaf, somebody hands you 33 euros (my share of the win). Excellent.

Even better though: One of the writing members of the team passed me a carrier bag from another writer, as the group hasn't seen me since Mrs has been ill. In the bag were a programme, Road Book and polo shirt from the recent Cyprus Rally! Well done Maurice.

Jan, Sue and Mary haven't seen each other since High School. They rediscover each other via a reunion website and arrange to meet for lunch in a wine bar.

Jan arrives first, wearing beige Versace. She orders a bottle of Pinot Grigio. Sue arrives shortly afterward, in gray Chanel. After the required ritualized kisses she joins Jan in a glass of wine. Then Mary walks in, wearing a faded old tee-shirt, blue jeans and boots. She too shares the wine.

Jan explains that after leaving high school and graduating from Princeton in Classics, she met and married Timothy, with whom she has a beautiful daughter. Timothy is a partner in one of New York's leading law firms. They live in a 4000 sq ft co-op on Fifth Avenue, where Susanna, the daughter, attends drama school. They have a second home in Phoenix.

Sue relates that she graduated from Harvard Med School and became a surgeon. Her husband, Clive, is a leading Wall Street investment banker. They live in Southampton on Long Island and have a second home in Naples, Florida.

Mary explains that she left school at 17 and ran off with her boyfriend, Mark. They run a tropical bird park in Colorado and grow their own vegetables. Mark can stand five parrots, side by side, on his dick.

Halfway down the third bottle of wine and several hours later, Jan blurts out that her husband is really a cashier at Wal-Mart. They live in a small apartment in Brooklyn and have a travel trailer parked at a nearby storage facility.

Sue, chastened and encouraged by her old friend's honesty, explains that she and Clive are both nurses' aides in a retirement home. They live in Jersey City and take vacation camping trips to Alabama.

Mary admits that the fifth parrot has to stand on one leg.
