Wouldn't that be a worn ignition key rather than starter motor brushes 🤔

Possibly, but I've known the brushes cause the same problem. The car starts first go every time now, so the diagnosis looks to have been correct in this case.

The Sat Nav in the 530 wasn't working and just kept spitting the disc out (which looked like it had been run over) so I bought a new one from ebay with the latest 2014/15 maps so I now instead of no navigation, I now have a working but utterly useless Sat Nav. Totally worth it.

In less exciting news the fancy new Bosch S5 battery is doing what the old S$ didn't much like doing buy just working as it should.

Marcello Gandini had a very good basic design...

I recently acquired a new project. It's a 1998 Toyota Hiace / Regius 8 seater, with the 2.7 petrol on lpg.

It was imported 4 years ago and the p/o just left it full on JDM including the massively overcomplicated stereo, satnav and reversing camera system, none of which worked properly or at all seeing as we're on the other side of the world and the Japanese radio network goes from about 88-90 on the FM scale meaning you could only get radio 2 sometimes and that was it. Well I decided to overcome my hatred of electrics, ordered the cheapest Chinesium double din touch screen and just went for it. wcpgw?

Erm...

WTF!

I spent a fair amount of time tracing wires and working out wtf was what, reducing it to what was actually needed for my new setup and ended up with this..

IMG-20201021-WA0003.thumb.jpeg.b5c00a0928ee3c08f1cc21c19e5721b1.jpeg

And after a fair amount of fiddling, resoldering and swearing I ended up getting it installed...

and ten I realised that reverse cameras are only about 12 quid and I have a newly found confidence in my electrical skills, so I did this today...

Still need to position the camera properly and tuck away the wiring but it made me grin.

I've got a similar thing on my shite pick up truck. The key has no shape on it, looks like a miniature dagger, falls out of the ignition lock at any time and takes a wiggle or five before creating a contact... 🤔 Previous owner had about half a kilo of crap on his keyring so I'm assuming the key and lock are fooked. Possibly not a coded key. Its an old shape 52 reg mazda b2500, key and lock cheaper and easier to change than starter motor 🤞🏽

managed to fix the screen brightness on my Linux mint powered laptop .

it involved google , chmod, su, gedit , ll , and some cut and paste , a lot of swearing , poking of time ravaged Unix memory brain cells ....

and it worked ...

Does it not have keys for that?

Both my Mint laptops have Fn+☼↑ buttons.  Not snazzy new laptops either and they just work with Mint, no configurization needed.

I should sort the webcams out though.  Never enabled but recently wanted to use them to magnify text on some titchy component, failed miserably and used magnificating specs.

Just cut short a Spanish holiday, returned 2 weeks early. Left my December return fight running in case of mishap.

Ryanair have moved the December fight, which I no longer need, and offered a refund!

It doesn't matter how many signs you put up saying car park closed due to high tides or even putting a gate across the entrance to try and stop them from damaging their cars, there's always one cockwombling fucknugget that thinks they know better.

Oh well...

That is what you get when you have cheap Chinese stuff. Wait until you use the sat nav. Play Bon Jovi and it will tell you that you are halfway there.

Saw a car on my way home today with the URL "https://www.bridgeitoptions.co.uk/" on the back of it.

"Bridge It Options"? I thought, must be a scrap merchant, unironically festooned on a Nissan Cube too.

But no, its an exceedingly dodgy looking local care home service. Relatives getting to old and busted? Simply bridge them. Recruitment page image is an odd choice

Edit: In hindsight I've now no idea why I thought it was a scrappers, aside from the name:

Was handed a copy of Novembers LRO magazine today. Who is that scruffy bald headed bugger in my workshop, should've pulled his jeans up before having his picture taken...Oh wait.......................well I did ask Martin to get my best side. And the back is my best side.

I had an interview with LRO, Mark Saville got that job. I did do an article (and get paid for it) as part of the interview process though, so technically I have worked as a motoring journalist. I think the main reason I didn't get the job is because I decided to go full Clarkson and start slagging off caravan owners (which didn't make it past the editor).
