What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

On the A41 a few miles out of Chester this morning, some complete ledge was driving a Ford Corsair convertible with the roof down and towing a caravan.

Lad at work booked one of these Sun holidays, "upgraded" to the posh place, £19 a night for 3 nights.

He'd rather have gone to Skeggy, but the caravans there are £33 a night.

So instead of driving 50 miles to skeggy, they drove 4.5 hours to south wales to save £42.

As the Honda is out of action I got a lift to today's Northern Powerhouse meeting, and I just had a lift home from Squire_Dawson. To my surprise he'd brought his Oxford MO along, which made for a wonderful journey.

Thanks again sir :-D

To me it's a bit disappointing it's electric cars, as a regular spectator a large part of the spectacle is the noise etc.

This morning I'm off the European city of Culture to catch the ferry to Rotterdam on the way to seeing the Nurburgring 24h race at the weekend, a fabulously incorrect throwback.   :-D

This has given me thoughts of sierra RS500s battling in the streets with nothing else able to touch them

the way im thinking is it will get revived by the electric race then hopefully the btcc etc will see how much fun it is and get in on it so the sounds will return to the streets

I'm trying to get the gf to agree to this after a family weekend with her lot pissed on my Spa 6hr race meeting last week...... no go so far though. Apparently the classic Spa 6hr in a couple of weeks should suffice.

I di flounce, but still not winning the argument just yet.

I want to travel this way. Hell, I want to live there.

Apart from obvious, ' Mile High Club' shenanigans , that looks awful and more claustrophobic than a normal plane . I hate the whole air travel experience anyway, although last year I had an 11 hour flight that was bearable , because the plane was half empty and I was able to lie across 4 seats and sleep for most of it, much more comfortable than that little bed with your feet in a cupboard looks.

If you do get there make sure you get out onto the Nordscheife by the Pflanzgarten, the GT3 cars which look so dramatic there are a little lost on GP track section. The public access road seems to get closed on Saturday night and surprisingly for Germany, the closure gets ignored. :-D

I mentioned some time ago the old girl with almost my initials BFT 5 or something similar on her Polo.

If you remember, her husband also has BFT 4 on the penultimate E V12 and BFT 1 on a Shadow.

I met him as well the other day, and what a lovely bloke. 'Had my Jag for forty four years, I know you can still pick up a restored one for a hundred and sixty grand or so, but I'll never sell mine...'

Sometimes, you just get a glimpse of a completely different world.

Just hauled a huge Collins short wave radio power supply out of the storage attic at work to save it going in the bin.

Thing is the size of a small fridge and weighs about 300lbs.

Sadly the radio itself is gone but this thing is a beast. It's all mercury arc rectifiers and other good stuff inside, looks almost military in its construction.

This is a plan of a old hydroelectric power plant under Niagara Falls. I imagine the engineers and draftsmen were sniggering under their hands in the meeting this design got approved.

Proper cars, proper racing  & a proper commentator. Wish it was still like that these days.

I went to the 1st one in the 80s, 4 of us got there really early to get a good spot, parked the car, started walking , got to the grandstand, where do you pay, we'd got there that early they hadn't set the booths up, result

The grandstand was 1/2 empty, as we'd got in free we though upgrade to seats , until we asked the price, some stupid amount like £100 a seat so we stayed where we were

I'm actually having my annual Saturday night off this weekend with my better half to celebrate our sixth anniversary.

We shall be spending it in the usual manner of eating curry, drinking copious amounts of booze and hopefully laughing at the acerbic comments our own Trigger makes on Facebook while he's watching Eurovision.

What you talking about? That right there is the height of the state of the art of multimedia. It's got a sound card and super VGA and a CD-ROM and everything!

Successfully got a rounded socket head bolt out by following autoshite practice and hammering a larger Allen key in to it.

It's the small victories...

Surely you needed to post a 13 page thread about what to do first :-)

on the bookface last night, Echo and the Bunnymen announced they were postponing a gig as it coincided with Liverpool playing in the Champions League final, from a Saturday to the following Tuesday.

They got such a backlash from the fans they've had to u-turn!

Football is shit.

Insured my mk1 sierra today and got a price I was happy with declaring all modifications, appears good cover went for soare parts cover as well because it wad cheap, when I was on the phone the lad was telling me hes seen a gold sierra estate he fancies and that him and a member of his family have a unit with a lot of cars in varying states of repair, I told him about this place because from the sound of it he would fit right in

I honestly don't understand why America asks how high? Every time Israel says jump...

Landy project now has a gearbox fitted. Only took 5 hours, the usual inventing new swear words and pain. I was assisted by the lovely Debbie Mcgee my mum. For a 71 year old blind woman she's quite good* at operating an engine crane.

Next job brake lines.

You legend getting your mum to help

I wouldn't be able to do a few jobs eg bleeding brakes, removing large panels etc without my glamorous assistant (mrs fp) she makes a bloody good brew as well and brings me a steady supply whilst im workimg

Reading the Press releases about the new Roller 4x4 today, amongst the usual features , great emphasis was made about the only unique* and innovative * feature of this £250,000 ( basic , before options) 2.7 tonne leviathan ; The secondary window behind the back seat to keep the temperature constant iin the cabin when the tailgate is open.

Yes, exactly the same as the Citroen XM almost 30 years ago!
